I Once Married You (Harper and Benjamin)

Chapter 244

Chapter 244 Why Should I Care?

"Benjamin, am I wrong? You said it yourself. I kept pressuring you to find Annie because she is my friend. Now, I think I was too selfish, and there was nothing wrong with what you said."

"Harper, listen to yourself. You think I can't notice? Don't you find it hypocritical? You're clearly holding me responsible in your heart, yet you deny it. Ask yourself, do you truly believe that?" "What I said is true, whether you believe it or not."

Harper pursed her lips, feeling a mix of emotions but unsure if anger was among them.

It didn't seem so.

There was nothing to be angry about.

After all, Annie had been found and was safe, so why should Harper get angry?

Yet, pretending nothing happened felt disingenuous, like a thorn stuck in her throat she couldn't swallow or spit out.

The atmosphere between them turned solemn, descending into a heavy silence.

After about half a minute, Harper made to leave, seeing no point in continuing their confrontation.

However, Benjamin's hand closed around her wrist, halting her.

"Where are you going? Are you planning to follow Annie's example and leave?" Benjamin's voice was low.

Harper sensed an undercurrent in

his words. Frowning, Harper met Benjamin's gaze, her emotions stirring. What? Don't I have the freedom to go anywhere now? You arrange for someone to follow me. They'll report back to you wherever I go, so why bother asking me?"

Her voice quivered with emotion, and she instinctively tried to shake off Benjamin's grasp, but he held on firmly.

Benjamin's eyes darkened, his jaw tense.

Harper's agitation grew as well, her breath quickening, and her body tensing like a taut string.

Suddenly, overcome by fatigue and emotion, she closed her eyes and collapsed backward.

Benjamin reacted swiftly, catching her in his arms.

Benjamin acted swiftly and instructed Curtis anxiously, "Come over, we need to go to the hospital."

Curtis, who was outside,

immediately complied, rushing to the car and opening the door. Benjamin carried Harper inside, and Curtis swiftly closed the door and then drove them to the hospital.

Benjamin remained tense and grim-faced throughout the journey, and they reached the hospital within minutes.Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.

The whole process was so long for Benjamin.

Harper was rushed into the emergency room, where doctors conducted a thorough examination. While her condition wasn't severe, she had fainted due to hypoglycemia from exhaustion. Given her special circumstances, the doctors proceeded with caution.

Eventually, Harper was settled into a

ward, still unconscious. The doctor advised, "She's exhausted. Let her

rest. She need some nutritious food when she wakes up, and we'll observe her overnight before discharging her."

Harper lay in the hospital bed, her complexion pale and weak, her body finally succumbing to much-needed rest.
