Chapter 1383
Victoria dashed back into the kitchen again.
"Oh, well..."
Trevor raised his hand and couldn't stop himself from shaking his head gently. He took a bite from an egg tart. The sweet taste of red beans filled his mouth.
Hmm, not bad!
Everyone had their own strengths and weaknesses. Just like her. Her cooking skills weren't very good, but she was an expert in making desserts!
Sweetness and contentment crept into the corner of his eyes. At the same time, Victoria came out with a white porcelain bowl, "Hubby, I made this for you..."
As she put the bowl down, a mischievous smile flashed through her face. Victoria opened the lid of the bowl and the faint aroma of onions and radish filled the room. Looking at the familiar milky white fish soup in front of him, Trevor was taken by surprise.noveldrama
That was-
"Ta-da, your favorite Cullen skink! I added some white radish too. It'll help make you feel better during these cold seasons." With a spoon in hand, Victoria filled a bowl of soup for Trevor.
"Drink while it's hot. Try it..."
She had practiced many times for this dish! Victoria had lost count of how many fish she had wasted, but now she had succeeded. Victoria's heart was full of pride and satisfaction.
As soon as she put down the bowl, Trevor grabbed her hand, "What happened to your hand?"
"I'm fine."
Victoria retreated her hand swiftly and hid it behind herself. However, Trevor forcefully pulled it out again. There were several scratches on her pale hand. She had apparently burned herself as well.
She must've been scratched by the fish. And this burn, it must've been because of the burning oil.
They exchanged glances as Trevor locked his distressed and criticizing gaze on her. Victoria blushed as she quickly ensured, "I'm fine, I promise! Hubby, just try the soup..."
She had put a lot of effort into it! Besides, she had almost grasped the taste of the soup. It won't be too gross or difficult to swallow. She also washed the fish as clean as possible. The milky white color of the soup said it all!
Victoria raised her brows and felt a little pleased. Despite that, she still wasn't used to making this soup, so little wounds here and there were pretty much unavoidable.
Trevor rolled his eyes and got her some ointments to treat the burn.
"Doesn't it hurt? Vicky, you don't have to do all of these. You're my wife, not my maid. I don't need more maids anyways. Just do what you enjoy. I won't love you less because you're not good at cooking, I also won't like a woman more because she knows how to cook well—"
He would've Just married a cook if that were the case!
Although they occasionally quarreled, he would never get tired of her!
"I know! But I want to do something for you too, you know!" She didn't want to become inferior to others! She wanted to show her gratitude and affection!
"No matter what, I made all of these by myself. I fried the eggs, I mixed the salad, I microwaved the roasted duck, and I made this soup!"
With her hands in his, Victoria continued, "I mean, it is a little simple if you compare them to-"
Her gaze fell and she couldn't hold back her sigh. Before Trevor had the chance to comfort her, Victoria suddenly turned around.
"But no one forced you to marry me!" She blurted out.
He had made the choice himself! Now, he would have to suffer the consequences!
"Pfft!" Trevor couldn't help but chuckle. He thought she was bitter and upset. He was clearly wrong. What a troublemaker!
He raised his hand and scraped her nose, "Yes, I have chosen you from hundreds and thousands of others. That's why I must adore and spoil you in any way I can!"
"Hehe... Go ahead and eat, Hubby! There's some more food and drinks! I'll go get them first."
Victoria raised her hand and gestured at the warm orange juices. As Trevor went to get them, Victoria brought out two bowls of...well, they were meant to be rice, but they ended up becoming too soggy. They kind of looked like porridge.
Upon seeing the "rice" in the bowl, Trevor understood what happened instantly.
"She must've put too much water," Trevor thought, "That's why they look like that. They're not exactly rice, since they're too watery, but at the same time, I guess you can't say they're porridge too. The rice itself is soggy, but there isn't any extra water or soup. Well, at least they smell pretty decent."
"But, why's one bowl pure white, while the other is red?"
Trevor's eye fell as Victoria flushed out of awkwardness.
"Hubby, if you eat too much for dinner, your body won't be able to digest them properly, and you'll get fat, so today our main dish is this...rice porridge! I made them myself. They smell good and they're soft too. Try them, aren't they sweet? I added some red sugar into this one, so it's very tasty!"
Trevor pushed the orange juice to the side as his eyes seemed to smile, "Well, smartypants, we'll each have half!"
His wife was clever and creative. She really knows how to sugarcoat her failures.
Subsequently, Victoria distributed the rice porridge. Each of them had half a bowl of white rice porridge while the other half was red. The rice porridge looked pretty when their colours mixed.
"I'm so lucky to have such a wise husband. Now, we can eat both types of rice porridge, I wonder why I never thought of doing it like this? Next time, I'll add some dates to them, they'll taste more delicious!" Victoria pushed the bowls over to their respective places and the couple started eating.
Victoria doesn't really hate eating fish, but they were definitely not her favourite. She doesn't eat them much, and even if she did, she prefers to have them fried to remove their fishy smell. However, one of the most important ingredients in fish soup is fresh fish, so if truth be tofa, Victoria didn't like them at all. Nevertheless, the meal she had prepared was too simple, and her cooking skills weren't exactly excellent. That was why she bit the bullet and took a big scoop of the soup.
In fact, what Victoria didn't know was that Trevor didn't enjoy Cullen skink that much either. It wasn't his favorite dish, it was Selena's. Both of them weren't fond of the dish, yet they simultaneously forced the truth down their throats for their

respective reasons. Victoria thought that in order to have a good marriage, she'd had to make some compromises, and that included familiarizing herself with Trevor's diets. Trevor, on the other hand, didn't want to break Victoria's heart. He could clearly see that she had worked hard for this, so he, too, forced himself to take a big scoop of the soup. He would push them down his throat while holding his breath!
After preparing himself mentally, Trevor took a gulp of the soup. It was unexpectedly good. It wasn't like the ones he had before. When he looked up, he was astonished.
"You did a pretty good job! You're almost as good as a chef! I didn't know you had such great talent!" Trevor knew she had put a lot of hard work and effort into this, but he didn't know how long she had worked on the dish. He didn't know how many accidents occurred in the kitchen, how many times she had embarrassed herself, and how many times she had hurt herself for this one dish.
However, all the memories of the pain and suffering she went through completely disappeared after Victoria heard Trevor's compliments. Her eyes were filled with delight and happiness. "Hubby, don't you dare look down on me! I'm a university alumnus too—"
She didn't know how to cook, but so what? She could learn! She knew how to learn. Victoria took a bite of the roast duck, "Hmm, this is good. The shopkeeper didn't scam me after all." Victoria pointed at the roasted duck as she crammed another bite in her mouth. She picked a piece with the duck's greasy skin and dipped them into some chili sauce before handing it to Trevor. Just as she reached out her hand to drop the duck into his plate, Trevor leaned forward and his mouth snatched the duck from her fork. The two chatted casually as they finished their sweet dinner.
In the end, half of the fish soup was left, but all the other dishes were finished. As the last spoon of rice porridge entered his mouth, Trevor was amazed at how satisfied he was with the meal. "This rice porridge sure is much sweeter than rice!"
Victoria got up from her seat and tidied up the plates and bowls, "Hehe... I'll do better next time-"
She had eaten a lot. When she returned to her room that night, Victoria was miserable as her stomach started aching. It made her extremely uncomfortable.
She didn't feel better even after swallowing two full glasses of warm water. "What's going on," she mulled over the possibilities, "Did I put too much chili in the salad?"
What on Earth went wrong?
It was her first time cooking for him. She hoped she didn't make him sick.
Victoria observed Trevor quietly. She wasn't sure if there was something wrong with her food, so she didn't say anything to him.
He seemed fine when they went to bed that night. Victoria felt a sense of relief as she drifted into sleep. Their happy lives continued. After that day, the couple busied themselves with their work as usual. In the meantime, they enjoyed each other's company too, and even the simplest and most ordinary day could be merry and jolly.
Every now and then, Victoria would squeeze some time out to cook Cullen skink. Sometimes she would add radishes into the dish, while other times, she'd add tomatoes. She even tried adding berries. It was basically the only dish she knew, so she wanted to add more variety to it. She would let the cooks at home handle the other dishes. Victoria was not interested in torturing her stomach any time sooner. Their time shared together was beautiful and peaceful.
One day, after dinner, Victoria locked herself in the bathroom for a long time. She didn't know what was going on with her stomach lately. She always felt the need to relieve herself, but she'd end up in the bathroom with no waste being expelled.
She consumed two more packets of medicine after coming out.
She was going through a bad year indeed!
One box would usually do the trick. Why wasn't it working anymore?
It didn't hurt that much, but she wasn't completely pain-free. After taking her medicine and gobbling down
a glass of water, she went to bed early.
When Trevor returned to the bedroom, he saw Victoria curled up on their bed. He sat by the bed and
caressed her forehead, "What's wrong? Are you unwell?"
It was still early. Usually, she would be by the computer or playing with Grisly.
No matter how clean the cat was,
Trevor didn't like it in their bedroom, especially during nighttime. He reprimanded Victoria a few times about the issue, but she liked Grisly's accompaniment. Furthermore,

cat was pretty sensible too. It seemed to know to steer clear of their space as much as it could. Nowadays, it'd stay in its little corner where its cushions, sofa and bed lay. Of course, now and then it would break the rules, but Trevor would just have to scold it for a while and it would never repeat the mistake. Trevor had slowly grown used to the cat's presence.
Victoria would sometimes post some cat pictures on Facebook as well. She seemed caring and motherly
when she took care of Grisly, and Trevor liked seeing her like that. That was one of the reasons why he was permitted to have the cat's bed located on their balcony.
His maids and servants are very hardworking, and she was very persistent about it. He decided to compromise!
