Chapter 515 An Arranged Marriage
Caroline responded with a simple “Okay.”
Worried about her sudden chest pain, Caroline decided to have a checkup at the hospital.
After receiving the restaurant’s address via text from Paige, Caroline swiftly grabbed her bag and left
work.
Ten minutes later, she joined Paige at Table One and sat in a private room.
Paige sat beside Caroline and eagerly extended her hand. “Look, Carol!”
Caroline raised her head and noticed the ring on Paige’s middle finger. She asked, “Alex bought you a
ring?”
Paige smiled warmly. “Yes, he wants to bind me to him. He’s quite the romantic.”
Caroline sighed playfully. “Looks like I’ll need to prepare a big wedding gift for you.”
Paige affectionately held Caroline’s arm and said, “Honestly, I’d appreciate anything as long as you’re with
me.”
Then, her phone rang. Paige retrieved it from her bag and frowned upon seeing an unfamiliar number.
Caroline leaned in and asked, “What’s wrong?”
Paige replied, “It’s an unknown number.”
She answered the call on speaker, saying, “Hello, who’s calling?”
A middle–aged woman’s voice echoed. “You must be Ms. Watson.”
Paige and Caroline exchanged puzzled glances.
“Yes, I am,” Paige confirmed. “May I ask who’s calling?”
“I am Rebecca Gomez, Alex’s mother. Do you have time?” she replied.
Paige was stunned. “Hello, Ms. Gomez. Yes, I’m available. Let me treat you to a meal.”
“You can choose a restaurant,” Rebecca said.
Paige suggested, “How about Table One near MK, room 1067” Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.
“Alright, I’ll be there shortly,” Rebecca said before ending the call.
Panicking, Paige turned to Caroline. “Carol, why does Alex’s mother suddenly want to meet me? Do I look presentable enough?”
Caroline looked at Paige helplessly. “Stay calm. You look fine.”
Clutching her head in her hands, Paige fretted, “No, I can’t be calm. Did Alex tell his mother about me? Is that why she wants to meet me out of the blue?”
Caroline suggested, “Maybe you should try calling Alex and ask.”
“Oh, right. I’ll call him now,” Paige said and dialed Alex’s number, but he didn’t answer after a prolonged
wait.
Paige grew increasingly worried. “Why isn’t he picking up? I’m so anxious!”
Caroline tried to reassure Paige. “Maybe he’s busy. Why don’t you text him instead?”
Paige followed Caroline’s advice and sent a text.
Fifteen minutes later, a dignified middle–aged woman entered their private room. She was dressed plainly but elegantly.
Paige and Caroline both stood up, ready to greet her, but then they noticed another woman following her.
That woman was exceptionally beautiful with long, straight hair, radiating sophistication and grace.
Meanwhile, Rebecca appeared stern as she quietly pulled the younger woman into the room.
Without bothering with formalities, she held the young woman’s hand and sat in front of Paige and
Caroline.
Rebecca introduced herself, saying, “I’m Rebecca Gomez, Alex’s mother. This is Azure Miller.”
Paige nodded awkwardly and extended her hand. “Nice to meet you, Ms. Gomez, Ms. Miller.”
Rebecca glanced at Paige’s outstretched hand and responded indifferently. “Please, have a seat.”
Caroline sensed trouble when Rebecca assumed a hosting role.
She and Paige resumed their seats, and Rebecca went straight to the point. “My son is engaged to Azure.
I kindly ask that you refrain from bothering him, Ms. Watson.”
Paige’s expression changed dramatically. “Engaged?”
Azure smiled politely and clarified, “To be precise, it’s an arranged marriage from our childhood.”
litely and
Perplexed, Paige looked at Rebecca and asked, “If it’s an arranged marriage, why did you encourage Alex to go on blind dates?”
Caroline quickly intervened, squeezing Paige’s hand to prevent any rash remarks.
