The Unknown God of War

Chapter 268

Chapter 268

A transient pink flush appeared on Muqing’s face as happiness swelled within her.

“That’s great! You are a dependable, charismatic young man, Feng! Here’s a toast to you! You must take good care of my darling daughter and granddaughter from now on.” Jiaqiang and Chu Feng lifted their glass merrily and finished the alcohol in a single glup.

Fenglan pursed her lips and scoffed, “Easy for you to say. Our family will be in the ruckus if we depend on you. Instead of heading out to work and earn a stable income, you spend all your time in the kitchen examining recipes. You are such a lazy ass, how can you possibly have any accomplishments?”

The atmosphere at the dinner table suddenly turned awkward. Chu Feng let out a laugh and tried to break the ice. He urged, “Come, let’s eat!”

In truth, Chu Feng was not affected by Fenglan’s criticism. He had long attained immense wealth, power and considerable achievements. Notably, his Dragon Soul was so successful that it would still be remembered by future generations, even after a hundred years. Despite this, Chu Feng has come to realize that the pursuit of material wealth and power was superficial. It would never be as fulfilling as the time spent with one’s daughter. Fenglan would never understand such ideals in life. NôvelDrama.Org is the owner.

Ding! Ding!

The sudden doorbell ring broke the tense atmosphere.

“Who’s that? Why are they interrupting our meals?” Fenglan grumbled as she put down her cutleries and went to open the door. She was left stunned when she say Jiaqiang and Xiaoyue at the doorsteps. However, they no longer displayed the air of arrogance from earlier in the day. Instead, they were

holding bags of tonics, branded clothing and perfume.

Jiaqiang forced a smile and said merrily, “Jiaming, Fenglan, I’m here to visit!” Without waiting for their reply, he shoved the bags of gifts into Fenglan’s arms and skipped his way to Jiaming. He then gave the latter an affectionate hug. Everyone was speechless at Jiaqiang’s sudden change in attitude.

“Jiaming, this Bird Nest and Ginseng is for you. Your body is weak, you need to nourish it.”

Jiaqiang then turned to Fenglan and said gently, “This gold necklace and jade bracelet is for you. It is worthy of your elegance.” Next, he looked at Muqing and continued, “This is a limited edition bag that Xiaoyue got you from overseas.”

Jiaqiang smiled as he passed the gifts to Muqing’s family. Everyone was appalled by his uncharacteristic display of generosity, something which he would have done even for his own father. Jiaming and Fenglan were rendered speechless by the miser’s unexpected efforts to please them. He was well-known to be a stingy man who took advantage of others. It was already a blessing if he did not steal from others. Yet, Jiaming was willing to fork out money and buy exorbitant gifts for their family today. While the rest of the family was staring wide-eyed, only Chu Feng remained calm. He cast a side glance at Jiaqiang and continued enjoying his meal.

Muqing furrowed her brows and asked cautiously, “What are you up to, Uncle Jiaqiang? Why the sudden change in attitude from earlier?”

Fenglan regained her senses and added on in an alarming tone, “That’s right. Jiaqiang, you came empty-handed and stole Muqing’s fifty million order. Now that you have brought so many gifts along with you, are you trying to force our family to be at your beck and call?” She waved her hand and thought to herself, even though I’m greedy and yearn for all these riches, I’m not that senseless to

figure that nothing comes free in this world.

Hearing their wary remarks, Jiaqiang felt his anger welling up in his chest. This bunch of unappreciative brats. How dare they question me! I shouldn’t have spent so much money on the gifts.

Jiaqiang tried to calm his rage and forced a smile. He let out a small cough and coaxed, “Jiaqiang, Fenglan, you have misunderstood me. I came here today to offer my sincere apologies. Please return back to the company.” He cleared his throat and continued, “Muqing, we were in the wrong previously. I am here to formally apologize to you for my unruly behavior. I hope you can forgive us and come back to save the company. There’s so many projects waiting for you to take charge.”

As soon as he ended his sentence, Jiaqiang turned and gave Xiaoyue a death stare. No matter how unwilling she was, she had to swallow her pride and bow deeply to apologize. “Uncle Jiaqiang, Aunt Fenglan, Muqing, this is all my fault. I’m so sorry for all the troubles I have caused. I’ll never repeat my mistakes ever again. Muqing, please return to the company.”
