Chapter 2038
Alaric gently took Hertha's hand, sliding three credit cards into her palm with a charming smile, his eyes twinkling with a mischievous glint and lips curved into a crescent moon. It was a gesture of pure affection and trust.
Hertha, caught off guard, blinked her large eyes in disbelief. She thought Alaric was joking at first, but there he was, seriously handing over his financial lifelines to her.
“Alaric, you really shouldn't have,” Hertha started, feeling a mix of embarrassment and astonishment.
Before she could finish, Alaric cut her off, "This card right here, it's the one I get my salary on. You know I've been working with the Crawley Group, and they're pretty solid about dropping the paycheck on the fifteenth every month. Feel free to check the balance then."
He pointed to the first card he gave her and then moved to the next, "This one's from when I was dabbling with some investments during my stint with the Falconer family. Got lucky with a startup that pays out dividends annually. You can take a look at the start of each year, see what's come in."
Alaric explained with such earnestness that Hertha didn't want to interrupt, instead listening intently.
She had pegged Alaric as a playboy, never suspecting he had a knack for investments and financial planning.
“And this last one," Alaric continued, “is sort of an allowance card from the Falconer family. Used to be my mom would deposit some spending money every month. Haven't touched it in ages, though. If you're curious, go ahead and take a peek at what's in there."
Through Alaric's explanations, it was clear that this card was meant to be used more cautiously.
He had effectively entrusted her with his entire fortune.
Hertha chuckled, "We've barely tied the knot, and here you are, handing over your entire wealth to me. Aren't you scared I'll just run off with your money?"
It was a light-hearted jest.
Alaric's laughter was soft, yet filled with warmth, "To be deemed worthy of your trust with my assets is an honor."
Hertha was speechless, her eyes brimming with unshed tears. Alaric's words had moved her deeply, a sentiment she wasn't accustomed to. Realizing she was about to cry, she playfully flicked Alaric on the forehead, "Who in their right mind would be happy about their fortune being eyed?" "Because it's you, I don't mind being this kind of fool," Alaric confessed sincerely.
Those words sent Hertha's heart fluttering, stirring emotions she hadn't fully processed yet.
Trying to fend off the overwhelming
feelings, she turned away, blinking back tears, "You've got quite the silver tongue. I wonder how many have fallen for those sweet nothings of yours."
"It's not sweet nothings when I say them to you, Alaric hurried to clarify, desperate to convince her of his genuine feelings, now that they were husband and wife. There should be no room for doubt about hiso sincerity.
As he spoke, he took her by the shoulders, turning her to face him. Seeing her eyes, red and watery,

emotion, he leaned in and kissed her passionately.

The kiss, fervent and filled with longing, overwhelmed Hertha. It was as if Alaric's earnest words and his undeniable allure were a potent brew she could hardly resist.
This was just the beginning of their marriage, and already, Hertha felt out of her depth. If she was this swayed by Alaric now, what would her standing be in their future together?
