“Aren’t you a psychiatrist?”

“Yes, why do you ask?”

“Then didn’t you analyze Jesse’s inner thoughts expressed in his words just now?”

Before Sara could say anything, Nydia continued, “If you analyze it wrongly, it means you’re not fit to be his doctor. And if you didn’t analyze it, then you’re not a qualified psychiatrist.”

“I’m sorry, but I don’t usually speculate on what others mean during my off-hours. It’s disrespectful to others.”

“Oh, I see. So that’s disrespectful. I thought it was just a matter of social graces.”

Molly and Tavish wisely didn’t interrupt. They thought Mommy had won for the time being.

After dinner, Sara suggested talking to Jesse alone.

“Is there anything that I, Mrs. Pascall, can’t hear?” Nydia was not shy at all.

“Mrs. Pascall, please don’t meddle. Patients have their own privacy, even if you were his mother, you can’t listen!” Sara was angry.

Nydia took a deep breath, patted Jesse’s shoulder, and said, “Do you want Mommy to accompany you, my good son?”

“Have you been taking your medicine on time recently?” Sara decided not to bother with Nydia. She thought she was too classy to argue with someone as uncivilized as Nydia.

“Yes.”

This surprised Sara, as Jesse hadn’t been taking his medicine properly before.

“Have you been experiencing strong emotional fluctuations recently? Have there been times when your emotions were particularly intense? And have you been troubled by anything recently?”

“Not at the moment. Thank you for coming over specifically this time, I’ve been doing better recently. I’ll come to you if I have any problems.” Jesse’s tone was gentle, which annoyed Nydia who was listening nearby.

“There’s a new medicine that’s come out that could help with your condition. I brought it with me, you can try it.”

She took out the medicine from her bag and handed it to Jesse.

“Okay, thank you.” Both bottles of medicine had labels in foreign language, so they were probably from overseas.

“Since you’re doing better now, I’ll be on my way. I’ll come by next time I have some free time.”

“How could I let you come all the way here? When I’m not feeling well, I’ll go to you myself.”

Sara’s expression stiffened slightly, but she still nodded. “Okay.”

She got up and said goodbye. Nydia went to see her off.

“Mrs. Pascall, you should pay more attention to his condition on a daily basis, and be less stimulating. Be gentle and don’t be unreasonable.”

“Are you teaching me how to do things?” Sara looked like a gentle lady, but was actually quite sharp-tongued.

“I’m just giving a suggestion. Can’t you be less sharp-tongued? Jesse’s illness…”

Nydia immediately frowned and said unhappily, “Can you please address my husband as Mr. Pascall? You’re a doctor, don’t bring personal feelings into it. And have you ever thought about why I’m being sharp-tongued with you? Or are you pretending not to know on purpose?”

“So what? You’re not good enough for Jesse!” Sara replied bluntly with a stern face.
