Chapter 457
He knew her body like the back of his hand, and their chemistry was undeniable. So many days and nights filled with happiness-how could she not be content? But Selena just lay there, letting him do as he pleased, her mind wandering off. Until-
No matter how hard Everett tried, her body didn't respond. He pulled out all the stops to please her, but she was unphased. He lay on top of her, breathing heavily, frustration etched across his face, eyes filled with confusion and bitterness.
Selena finally raised her hand and gently pushed him away. She sat up, her nightgown torn and trampled beneath their feet. Ignoring his stare, she got out of bed, made her way to the dressing room, and slipped into a fresh nightgown. When she emerged, Everett was by the window, draped in a robe, staring out at the city lights. The chill in his demeanor was palpable, a clear sign of his anger. He grabbed a cigarette, but just as he was about to light it, he stopped, tossing the pack and lighter to the floor in a fit of rage.novelbin
Selena stood quietly for a moment, watching him. Then she bent down, picked up the contract from the floor, and approached him. They stood side by side, gazing out at the night sky. It was ironic; after all these years of marriage, this was the first time they stood together like this, simply taking in the view.
Before, he was hardly ever home, and when he was, it was all about the bedroom. Her worth to him had never been more than that.
"Everett, this is pointless. You don't love me, and I..." Selena paused, swallowing hard, "I don't have any feelings left for you either."
"Grandfather always hoped we'd make it work, but since we can't, let's part amicably. I don't want us to become enemies, but make no mistake, I'm not afraid if we do!"
She looked up at his tense profile. "Agree to the divorce, and grandfather's estate is yours. Just stick to our divorce agreement. If you'd rather not give me shares, then a lump sum will do."
Everett scoffed.
"Selena, do you really think you can negotiate with me?"
He turned to her, his gaze icy and mocking.
Selena held up the contract, speaking calmly, "If you don't agree, I'll have to talk to Adler. I bet he'd be thrilled to have me on his side."
"So, you're threatening me?" Everett chuckled, but his smile was anything but friendly.
"No," Selena said softly, shaking her head. "I'm proposing a deal, Mr. Everett. As a businessman, you must understand the concept of trade-offs."
"In love, you can't make sacrifices, but in business, you always know how to maximize profits."
Under normal circumstances,
even
with this contract, she might not stand a chance against him. But these weren't normal times, and he'd have to think carefully.
Everett was both amused and infuriated by her cool logic. "You're really itching for a divorce? What about our Haley? Planning to hand her over to another man? Is that

If she were truly pregnant, maybe she couldn't be so resolute. But their marriage had reached its breaking point, and perhaps fate was on her side. This wasn't the time to mention that. It would only provoke him further. When men like him lose control, there's no telling what they might do.
Haley...
She took a deep breath and assured him, "If we part on good terms, we can co-parent Haley. I won't take away your rights as a father."
Her reply was so smooth, her words so clear, it was evident she had planned this conversation for a long time. She had long thought about leaving him.
Everett's heart felt twisted, the pain
so intense it was suffocating. His

hands clenched tightly, veins bulging, as he glared at her. The corners of his eyes tinged red, a crack in his composure showing.
Selena waited for his answer.
But he said nothing, slamming the door as he left.
A week later, while Selena was watering the garden, Bradley called. He asked if she could meet up.
Clutching the phone a bit tighter, Selena asked, "Did Everett agree to the divorce?"
Bradley confirmed, "Yes, Mr. Everett has agreed to the divorce."
