Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 452

Margot's words snapped him back to reality. He rubbed his tired brow, sidestepping her question with one of his own. "What time is it?" Margot blinked at the unexpected question, but checked her phone anyway. "It's just midnight," she replied.

Midnight.

Everett lifted his gaze, casting a sideways glance at her, his tone indifferent. "William's birthday is over, then."

Margot wished she could've bitten off her own tongue. She should've said it was half past eleven.

Ignoring her thoughts, he spoke again, "It's late. You should head back and rest. Time heals all wounds. If you need anything, call Alex."

Margot caught the drift. Despite her injuries, he wasn't going to stay; he was itching to get back to Selena.

Just because she's pregnant again, does that make her so special?

Every woman can have kids. If he wanted, she could give him a dozen! She wouldn't take him for granted like Selena, always at odds with him, always causing trouble. He's been so busy and worn out lately, and it tugged at her heart. Did Selena give a damn?

It wasn't fair to Everett, or to her!

In the past, she'd have lost her cool, but with her child gone, all she had left was Everett's lingering regret and yearning, which he projected onto her.

So, she had to keep her temper in check, be gentle, understanding, if she wanted to stay in his orbit.

She chose her words carefully, looking a bit downcast. "Everett, are you off to see your wife?"

His dark eyes turned chilly, clearly feeling she'd crossed a line.

"Everett, don't get me wrong. I'm just concerned as a friend. Honestly, is it wise to spoil your wife like this It's late; she should at least call to check on you, but she hasn't."

"I'm a woman too; I get it. When she doesn't care where you are, it means she doesn't care if you come back."

"Enough!" Everett's handsome face darkened. He brushed her hand away and addressed the butler outside, "Take care of Ms. Margot."

The butler, chosen by Derick and knowing well who his real boss was, nodded quickly. "Understood, Mr. Everett."

Margot bit her lip, a flicker of frustration passing over her face, but it vanished quickly.

She had hit a nerve.novelbin

Everett, proud and accustomed to admiration, wouldn't stoop for long.

As long as there was tension between him and Selena, she'd find a way in.

With that thought, she put on a warm smile, gently saying, "Everett, take care on your way back. I'm heading upstairs."

She let the butler help her into the wheelchair and wheel her upstairs.

Everett pulled out his phone, pressing it to light up the screen. Plenty of missed calls and messages, but not one from his wife! A chill crept into his eyes.

Over an hour later, the driver pulled

into Moone

Bay, stopping before the

sprawling lawn. "Mr. Everett, we've arrived," he said softly.

Everett, leaning back and pretending to nap, hesitated before slowly opening his eyes, looking up at the master bedroom on the second

floor.

A flicker of surprise crossed his face.

The light was still on. Was Selena leaving it on for him, or waiting for him to come home?
