Chapter 451
Selena's bit of sadness was soon washed away by Ava's tears. She gave Ava a gentle pat on the back, laughing as she said, "Ava, come on, I'm alright. See? I'm just fine." "How can you say that?" Ava replied, stepping back to get a good look at her. "You've lost weight again."
Sure, she had lost some weight, but it wasn't because of her running away. She had a typical Chinese palate and couldn't quite get used to the cold cuts and Western food abroad. Eating less naturally led to shedding a few pounds.
"A pregnant woman shouldn't be losing weight like this. It could lead to malnutrition, which isn't good for you or the baby," Ava pointed out, wiping her tears. "It's a good thing you're back. I'll whip up some delicious meals for you and get you back to your healthy self." Since Selena wasn't actually pregnant, she couldn't really argue and decided to accept Ava's kindness. "Alright, I'll eat everything you make."
That finally brought a smile to Ava's face, and she happily headed to the kitchen to cook up something tasty.
Selena's escape hadn't caused a stir, so she opted not to mention it to Uncle Ricky or the others, sparing them unnecessary worry.
As for Dr. Campbell, seeing him well today meant she could set aside her concerns for the moment.
The one thing that tugged at her heart was not being able to see her son.
Even though she now had a phone and Everett hadn't restricted her internet access, she didn't dare make any risky calls. If she reached out to Dr. Campbell to discuss her son and the call was intercepted, it could all go south.
Sitting on the couch, Selena took out the contract from her bag and gently ran her fingers over it.
She felt like her freedom was just around the corner.
...
Margot had hurt her leg.
Today was William's birthday, and as she was coming down the stairs, lost in thoughts of him, she didn't watch her step and took a tumble.
The staff rushed her to the hospital right away.novelbin
After X-rays, a diagnosis, treatment, and getting a cast, it was well past midnight.
Margot didn't want to stay at the hospital; the trauma from her previous stillbirth had left her with a strong aversion to hospitals, making her anxious, so Everett took her back to her apartment.
In the underground garage, a servant got a wheelchair ready to help Margot out, but one look from her made them stop and step back. She glanced at Everett with pleading eyes.
Everett, leaning back in the leather seat, his deep eyes lost in the night outside, seemed to be elsewhere in his thoughts, missing her subtle cues. Margot tightened her grip, a flicker of irritation in her gaze.
She knew that even though Selena had run off, Everett had personally brought her back-a woman who had betrayed him repeatedly, yet he just couldn't let her go.
How could she not feel insecure?novelbin
She could see that despite his anger towards Selena, he was still drawn to her. Otherwise, he wouldn't have seemed so distracted these past few hours.
His feelings were as plain as day!
This was new territory for her.
Jealousy surged through her, subtly twisting her lovely features. She had to find a way to pull Everett's heart back to her.
"Everett..."
She called out, her delicate fingers lightly tugging at his sleeve, her voice gentle and soothing.
"It's really late, and driving at night isn't safe. Why don't you stay here tonight? It'll give us a chance to spend some time together, and we can celebrate William's birthday too. What do you say?"
