Annie's brow furrowed as she asked, "Are you keeping the baby?"

"This child is mine, and I won't harm my child for any reason," Harper asserted firmly.

Annie's heart skipped a beat at Harper's declaration.

Harper didn't notice the subtle shift in her demeanor. Continuing her explanation, Harper stated, "He doesn't love me, and the presence of the child won't change that. Even if he were to show acts of affection, it would only be because of the child. I'm not foolish enough to mistake that for love."

"I spent one year with him. He didn't love me. Maintaining this marriage won't work out."

Harper's rationality resonated with Annie, prompting a newfound clarity in her thoughts.

With a slight smile, Annie nodded in agreement, "You're right. You are still the same proud woman I know, unwilling to compromise her principles for anyone."

"I wasted one year to be Benjamin just to make him love me, I highly suspect you're mocking me," Harper replied with a wry smile.

While she refused to compromise her stance on love for Benjamin, it didn't mean she couldn't love her child.

These were two different concepts to her.

After breakfast, the doctor confirmed Harper's health and the baby's well-being through a color ultrasound.

As Benjamin beheld their child for the first time, tenderness filled his gaze, a gentleness he couldn't conceal.

Harper couldn't help but notice Benjamin's affectionate expression.

"I guess he truly loves the child."

An inexplicable hesitation and confusion crept into Harper's heart.

Following the examination, Harper was discharged from the hospital.

Curtis awaited them outside with the car. Benjamin gestured for Harper to enter. Then, she turned to Annie and inquired casually, "Are you coming back with me, or do you have other plans?"

Annie hesitated momentarily before responding. "You go ahead. I'll join you within half an hour."

"Alright," Harper acquiesced without further inquiry. She only glanced at Larry and then entered the car.

Benjamin and Larry looked at each other for a second and then settled into the car as well.

As they departed from the hospital, Benjamin's voice broke the silence. "You needn't worry about Annie. Larry understands what he did was wrong, and he won't repeat his mistakes." "I'm not worried," Harper replied calmly, gazing out the window.

The atmosphere grew somber, with Curtis noticing the lack of interaction between the two in the rearview mirror. After a brief pause, he asked, "Are we heading back to your house first?"

"Take me to my apartment first," Harper instructed, her tone unwavering. "I miss my grandmother, and she must be worried if she doesn't see me."

Benjamin's expression remained impassive as he regarded Harper, but she avoided his gaze, fixating on the passing scenery.

Harper didn't even bother to find an excuse. She told him frankly that she didn't want to move back with him.

Benjamin's frown deepened, and he spoke quietly, "Do what she said."

Curtis complied. The silence covered the car again.

But the silence was punctuated by an underlying tension.

Upon reaching the apartment, Harper exited the car without waiting for assistance. Turning to Benjamin, she spoke with a faint smile, "I'll go up alone. Just go to work." Benjamin's brow furrowed as he addressed her sternly, "Are you trying to distance me again?"

Harper paused, momentarily taken aback.

She replied, "I just think you don't need to follow me everywhere. I'm only pregnant, and it's been nearly four months. I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself. I don't want to feet restricted because of the pregnancy. As long as I don't endanger the baby, I should be able to live normally."
