Chapter 134 Lauren's Call

Harper's silence was taken as consent.

The atmosphere between them turned even colder, and he warned in a cold voice, "Harper, listen carefully. If he dares to come looking for you again, and you dare to meet him alone, I will make sure he's out of Mayby!"

With that said, Benjamin turned and went back to the bedroom.

Harper stood there, stunned.

She felt frustrated and wondered, "Why does he see nothing wrong with his intimacy with Lauren, but I can't have the same with anyone?" First it was Frank, then Isaac.

Both times, he was so domineering. He didn't allow them to interact too much, and even demanded she maintain her distance from them.

Just because they were married, did that mean she couldn't have a friend of the opposite sex?

Harper took a deep breath, leaning back on the couch and staring blankly out the window.

After some time, her phone on the coffee table suddenly rang.

It was from an unfamiliar number.

She raised an eyebrow and picked up the phone. "Hello?"

"Harper, what are you trying to do?" Lauren's sharp questioning voice sounded in her ear.

Harper frowned. If she knew it was Lauren calling, she wouldn't have answered.

She asked coldly, "What do you want?"

"Did you hide Benjamin? Do you think he'll fall in love with you just because you stop him from contacting me? You're just being delusional!" "Are you out of your mind?"

Harper's demeanor turned cold, her words firm, and a subtle defiance gleamed in her eyes.

Lauren's emotions flared. "You've moved out of Pineview Villa, right? So why are you still clinging to Benjamin? Playing hard to get, are you? Do you really think Benjamin will fall for you with that? Harper, he doesn't love you, and he never will. He's going to marry me."

"What's it to you? Focus on your own business and remember your place."

Harper couldn't believe that Lauren dared to provoke her, when Lauren's relationship with Benjamin was a shady one.

Then, Harper ended the call without a word.

Lauren almost went crazy on the other end as her gaze turned sharp. "Harper, I'll make you regret it."

Lauren had been on a downward spiral lately because Isaac refused to write a song for her. The release of her new song was looming closer, and she couldn't find any well-known lyricists to work with, leaving her subject to mockery within the industry.

She pinned all her troubles on Harper, convinced that Harper was the root cause of everything, and her hatred for Harper ran deep.

But Harper remained oblivious to Lauren's thoughts, and she couldn't care less.

Harper wasn't surprised that Lauren knew she had moved out. But when Lauren accused her for playing hard to get, Harper felt a mix of emotions she couldn't quite articulate.

She wondered if Benjamin saw things that way as well.

She pressed her lips together, lost in thought. Her eyes grew dimmer, obscuring everything beneath a shroud of uncertainty.

Before she could cook, Curtis had brought the food over.

The two ate in silence.

After dinner, Benjamin went back to work. She thought, "He seems fine, so we should be good, right? In that case, he should be moving out soon, right?"

However, she didn't ask him about it. She didn't want to risk another disagreement. Right now, she had no desire to argue, nor did she want their conflict to affect her mood.

Harper spent some time alone to rest. After watching the early evening sky, she returned to her room and changed into a casual sports outfit and slipped into a comfortable pair of sneakers. With her phone in hand, she prepared to head out.

Of course, she didn't mention anything to Benjamin. As she reached for the door to leave, a hand beat her to it, holding it shut.

Benjamin furrowed his brows and asked coldly, "Where are you going? Are you running away from home because you didn't like what I said?"
