Chapter 1385
She thought things would've been over after getting some prescribed medication, but who'd thought the doctor advised her to get a colonoscopy, rendering her a little at a loss. She grew worried as the doctor's words rang in her head when she walked out of his office with a report in her hand.
"According to your description and daily habits, the gastrointestinal medications you've taken should work. If it still hasn't alleviated after changing three brands, changing to another one probably won't do much either. I suggest you do colonoscopy so we can have a better diagnosis of your condition."
"I can't give you an exact answer now, but no need to worry; this is just so that we can make a more
accurate diagnosis and give you the right treatment! I can't determine just by hearing your description, and what I can prescribe you are also only general gastrointestinal medication."
"Also, you'll need a family member to be around when you do the colonoscopy. You can set up an appointment today and arrange it when you go back. Don't forget to pick up your medication and prepare in advance according to the note on your report.
Frightened by his words, Victoria pulled her phone out, wanting to call Trevor without even thinking. With that, she walked to a secluded area in the hallway, but before she could even get to his number, a faint sobbing traveled to her ears. She instinctively shifted her gaze to find two young women, one fair and emaciated, crying, wearing an oversized black coat. The other was probably her friend, just as beautiful but slightly more muscular, a bob cut, slightly vicissitude-looking yet with hints of toughness. She was handing her friend a tissue, seemingly comforting her.
"C'mon, don't cry anymore. What's the point in crying when you've already done your mastectomy and signed the divorce paper?" "But it still hurts, Pandora! He paid for my chemo sessions, though it's a little hard up, and he indeed ached for his money, which I understand since it's a large sum, but ever since he knew I had to do the mastectomy, he wouldn't say yes no matter what... Have I done wrong? What now?" "Will you still be able to stand here and worry about your future if you don't do the surgery? What you have is breast cancer, heaven's sake! Are you out of your mind? Do you even have to think?"
What's more
"Do you not get what men think? I swear, he worried he'd lose interest in you after you did that surgery. You two have been married for six years! Isn't it his responsibility to pay for your treatments? Men are all selfish, if you ask me. Paying for your treatments is much cheaper than getting himself another wife, no? He used to devote his heart to you because of your beauty. Seeing that you'd be deformed after the surgery, the perks he always had gone, of course, he decided to abandon you for a whole woman when the money spent is just about the same. What's more, he doesn't have to worry or constantly come to the hospital! Luckily you're still young and are only getting ready to want a child. Do you think a selfish man like him wouldn't want a divorce to change his situation even when you two have a child? I've told you before, don't 't tell I your husband everything. Why tell him the results so hastily? You could've at least taken his money y and had the mastectomy done on your own first; so be it, even if you still end up divorced. At least you won't end up like how you are now, slave away for six years for nothing! Honestly... have you not learned anything in the last six years? At least have something for yourself!"
"Take a look at me. Do you still not understand? My husband would one day find me fat or ugly the next or find some other reason to dislike me whenever I didn't make money. Who does he think he is? He's even shorter than me. Now that I have income and don't ask for money from him anymore, all problems are gone! Men are all the f*cking same; the more problems, the poorer they are! Take a look at Raelynn; she's a smart one, marrying a man fourteen years older than her. He may look average and is a player, but so what? At At least she's living luxuriously, and she doesn't even have to worry when her mother-in-law's sick. Of f course, she's smart to keep one eye shut and tolerate everything. But look at us; what have we gained after serving an entire family? Don't give me that our-husband-are-loyal bullsh*t. Do you actually know what he's like? Your cancer isn't terminal yet, and you still have chances of recovering with how advanced technology is now, yet he's already in a rush to disassociate himself! And you're here being miserable. For what? Instead of crying, find a job. Who'd support you when you're penniless? How are you going to afford treatment when you're sick?"
"I see how it is now. At the end of the day, we can rely on no one but ourselves. Forget about children,
men, hmph, I might as well rely on my hands! Whether we end up rich or have the life we want, we have to make an effort ourselves! Has this illness not awoken you yet? Money aside, has he said anything to comfort t you? Does he care about your wellbeing? What does he care about apart from his money and whether you're whole?"
"Humans are all the same; we should live a little selfishly as well! You don't want to part with this relationship and marriage, but does he give a sh*t about you? Hadn't he gone and gotten himself an even younger woman just like that? Time to wake up; you've gotten sick from exhausting and angering yourself for that man, but has he ever cared? Ten years, you've been with him since you two started dating, but how many decades can we live for?"
"Be like me. Forget about marriage; live for yourself! Be nicer to yourself' don't be reluctant to spend..." The woman poked her while handing her another piece of tissue. Though standing far away, Victoria could feel that woman's sincerity, and she suddenly froze, gripping her phone.
She wasn't also suffering from some severe illness, was she?
Men... Yeah, she was still married. But who knew which woman her husband was with at the moment! Should he know?
It had been a no-brainer, but now, she hesitated.
Watching as the two sobbed, talked, and stopped every now and then as they left, Alicia's hard-working stances and her words when it was just the two of them filled her mind.
"I like working; I like a busy and fulfilling day. I like the satisfaction making money brings me. Even if it isn't a lot, I still like the happiness the increase gives me. I made them with my own hands, my own happiness. Vicki, is money really eternal? Take me, for instance, I got world-renowned designer bags and custom dolls for my fifth birthday, but I had to dance in a nightclub just to earn two thousand dollars at 25. Would it have ever occurred to you?"
"So, no matter how well Frederick treats me, how much money he gives, everything that is his is his. They're at my disposal as well, but it won't be my excuse to be forever lazy and slack off. No improvement means regression. It may be tough advancing; it's super easy to lag behind, even faster than an ebb, a blink of an eye. You I won't even have time to react. I'll also be eliminated if I can't keep up with him!" [I'm used to maintaining a sense of crisis. I can rely on him, but I can also depend on myself. So even if it's Frederick, I still have the confidence to leave him. I don't want to be overly dependent on him; it'll only break him and eventually find me annoying. He's no god, and I'm no sorceress; he won't tolerate my willfulness forever, and I don't have the magic to keep his eyes forever on me either. I think some dependence is just right, keeps things mysterious yet close, you see..."
"I think I have to work hard, even harder. Then I can have a better and happier life. He is just the cherry on top, not someone for me to leech on."
Victoria couldn't help but smile as her banter with Alicia echoed in her head. "You're forever my role model, Ally. I'm glad that I know you!"
Sure enough, there was always someone to learn from. She had always thought she could learn and see
a lot from Alicia, but who'd thought she'd still feel the same after Alicia had changed so much.
She thought back to the two women as her gaze at the hallway went out of focus. Friends sure were more reliable than husbands sometimes! At least they'd be there for emotional support!"
Hence, having a true friend was more important than having lots. It was essential to know what kind of people one befriended and cherish the good ones.
With that, she dismissed her initial idea and decided to talk to Alicia after returning home. She'd have to bother her if she happened to be available!
As she deliberated, she put away her medical record and other whatnots.
But just as she stepped out of the elevator, she nearly crashed into Holger, stumped for a couple of seconds when she saw the pile of papers in his hands; bills or medical reports, she wasn't sure. "Holger, are you... not feeling well?"noveldrama
"Victoria?" What was she doing here?
"No, I'm fine!" Holger hesitated for a moment before telling the truth. "It's Trevor; he's injured!" "What? What happened to him?" she exclaimed.
With that, she reflexively checked her phone to find nothing from him. Why didn't he tell her he was injured?"
"Don't panic, Victoria. He didn't tell
you because he feared you'd worry. We passed an alleyway after successfully rescuing Miss Duff. I went to fetch the car, but
unfortunately, a signboard fell to net
some reason and hit Trevor. They managed to evade it, but the nail and fracture lacerated his shoulder and back. He lost quite a lot of blood and got a few stitches. Fearing you'd be worried, he didn't dare go back last night!"
Holger was being euphemistic, but Victoria still got the gist.
As if he feared she'd be worried. He was probably afraid she'd be mad, wasn't it? Would he dare tell her
about it when he got himself hurt saving some other woman?
"An on- duty nurse treated his
wound last night. It probably wasn't
done very thoroughly as some scraps remained inside, so his wound got a little infected, and he's down with a mild fever. I came
to pay the bills and get the

paperwork done. He should be fine
after an IV drip and some cleaning!"
Trevor had forbidden him from saying anything to her, but now that they'd run into each other, he couldn't keep it a secret anymore, or things would probably only worsen! However, he wondered if he had done the right thing as he observed her expression.
"Do you want to go take a look at him?"
"Can I say no?"
After rolling her eyes, Victoria went back into the elevator, grumbling, "Serves you right! Gentility without
ability is worse than plain beggarism; why didn't he die from it?!"
This man would be the death of her!
What do you think?
