Chapter 13 Blacklisted in the Professional Circle
“Why are you asking me this?” Freya had a faintly ominous feeling.
“You should know what being blacklisted in the professional circle means.” The director hesitated, choosing his words carefully. “Your career as a doctor may be ruined in an instant. No hospital will dare to hire you.”
This sudden revelation shook Freya to the core. Her hands tightened and loosened repeatedly. “Mr Wilde, I love this job, and I can’t afford to lose it.”
“Even if I want to help, I’m powerless.” The director expressed regret. He highly appreciated Freya’s professional attitude and skills but lacked the ability to protect her.
“If you want to keep your job, you might need to talk to Elijah Silverton. You’ve offended him, so apologize to him. It’s better than losing your job.” The director kindly advised.
“I…” She hesitated.
Apologizing to Elijah wouldn’t solve the deep-seated bias he had against her. Freya knew that Elijah’s treatment of her was not just about the incident from the previous night, where she had nearly damaged something precious to him. It was also about his dissatisfaction with her becoming his wife. Perhaps, it was a way for him to retaliate for what happened last night and force her into agreeing to a divorce willingly.
She took a deep breath. “I understand.”
“Figure it out on your own.” The director said.
Freya returned to her office in a daze.
Begging Elijah would probably not be very effective. After all, his goal was likely to make her agree to a divorce. But she had already signed an agreement with Jack Silverton. If she agreed to Elijah now, she would become someone who didn’t keep her word. Suddenly feeling nauseous, she fought the urge to vomit. It passed quickly.
After taking a moment to compose herself, she turned on her computer and tried sending resumes to other hospitals. However, as soon as they saw her name, she was outright rejected.
At this moment, she experienced the power of being blacklisted. But she couldn’t afford to be without a job. With few friends, her only option seemed to be Orion Russo. After much hesitation, she took out her phone and dialed Orion’s number.
The call was quickly answered.Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
“Freya?” came Orion Russo’s voice from the other side.
“Do you have time? I want to meet you,” she said, trying to suppress the huskiness in her voice and make it sound normal.
Orion immediately agreed, “Sure.”
They arranged to meet at a restaurant. Freya tidied herself up and left the hospital. She arrived first. When Orion Russo arrived, he thought she wanted to discuss the heart matter.
Sitting down, he said, “I haven’t found the heart yet.”
Seizing this opportunity, Freya informed him, “My mother’s surgery has already been done.”
“What?” Orion was extremely surprised.
“When did this happen? Why didn’t I know?” he asked.
“Yesterday,” Freya replied. “I haven’t had a chance to tell you.”
Orion blinked, relieved. “As long as the surgery went well, that’s good.”
She nodded.
Seeing her heavy-hearted, Orion asked, “Is something bothering you?”
She reluctantly spoke, “I’m about to lose my job.”
Orion was puzzled, then indignant. “What? Mr Wilde dares to fire you?”
“I offended someone.”
“Who? Who did you offend? I’ll help you get justice!”
Freya Stone, thinking Orion Russo might know Elijah Silverton, hesitated for a moment and then uttered a name, “Elijah Silverton.”
Orion almost spat out the water he was drinking. “So, because of him, you’re about to lose your job?”
Freya nodded.
“Why did you offend him? Because of Liora Valentine?” Orion could think of no other reason.
As Elijah didn’t have a formal wedding and didn’t acknowledge it, besides the Silverton and Stone families, very few people knew. Orion Russo was among those who had no knowledge of it. Freya knew she would eventually divorce Elijah, so she never told him about it.
The only thing Orion Russo could think of was a connection with Liora Valentine. Before Freya could answer, he continued, “It’s my first time seeing Elijah so blind and so concerned about a woman. How could he fall for Liora Valentine?”
For Freya, Elijah’s preferences didn’t matter. Besides, people have different tastes. Maybe Elijah Silverton liked the type represented by Liora Valentine. But after hearing this, she was sure that Orion and Elijah were very familiar with each other.
Carefully, she asked, “The man you asked me to treat last time, was it Elijah Silverton?”
She had speculated when she found out Xander was Elijah’s assistant. To confirm her guess, she asked Orion.
“Yes, but don’t mention it to anyone.” Orion trusted her. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have let her treat him last time. After some thought, he said, “I’ll plead with Elijah for you.”
Freya hesitated, wanting to tell him about her relationship with Elijah, but didn’t know how to bring it up. In the end, she didn’t say it. “Thank you.”
“Oh, come on, we’re friends,” Orion laughed. “You still owe me a meal from last time.”
Freya smiled, “Alright, I’ll treat you.”

After the meeting, Elijah entered his office.
Xander approached. “Mr Silverton, I saw Miss Stone having dinner with Orion Russo.”
“Who?” Elijah turned his head, his pupils narrowing in surprise. “Freya Stone knows Orion?”
