Chapter 347
Asher found himself cornered by Lemira with nowhere to retreat.
Guiltily, he pushed Lemira's hand away, "Cut the sarcasm, I had no idea about the plagiarism."
"Mr. Langston, trying to wash your hands of it?"
"I'm not trying to dodge the blame!"
Asher's eyes were bloodshot, a sign of his turmoil, as if stepping on a sore spot.
Evelina stepped forward to support Asher, "Lemira, ever since you threw Asher over your shoulder, he's been nursing a broken rib. Don't you think you're going a bit too far?" Oh, playing the good cop now?
Lemira coldly retorted, "Then why don't you just go to jail? That'll solve everything."
Evelina gasped for air, shocked at the suggestion. How could she possibly face jail time!
She just wanted to show off in front of Asher.
The next moment, Evelina looked up at Alaric, "Alaric, no need to be torn about this. I admit it's all my fault. I'll go to jail, it has nothing to do with you."novelbin
If someone had to take the fall, it seemed Alaric was the chosen one.
Asher immediately interjected, "No, you can't go."
"Then Mr. Asher, are you implying you'll go?"
Asher was suddenly at a loss for words, only managing to look towards Alaric.
The atmosphere grew tense.
Alaric forced a smile, finally understanding the sting of betrayal.
Was this what Lemira had endured before?
After a pause, Alaric spoke hoarsely, "I'll go, enough with the arguing."
He acknowledged his fate, a result of his own doing.
Misplacing his trust in Evelina was his mistake to bear.
Hearing Alaric's words, Evelina's
face lit up with relief, "Alaric, how et
can we let you take the fall? It's my faultpl dragged you into this.
"Eve, don't say that. It's not your fault."
Asher patted Evelina's shoulder, "Stop crying, we, the Langstons, stick together."
Lemira nodded, "Right, why the tears? Someone's taking the blame for you, be happy."
"I can't help it, I just feel so bad."
Evelina's act of innocence continued, but Lemira called her bluff, "If you're that upset, why don't you go?"
Evelina couldn't even muster fake tears now, hanging her head in silence.
Jail was not in her plans; she had dreams of marrying into the wealthy Draven family.
Seeing Evelina's downtrodden look, Asher grew inexplicably irritated, "Lemira, are you satisfied now?" Lemira scoffed.
She turned to Alaric, "Congratulations, for making such a noble sacrifice for your flesh and blood." This was his just desserts.
Alaric, his eyes rimmed red, saw Lemira holding a trophy and for a moment, was lost, "Is that the championship trophy?" "Yeah."
Lemira approached Alaric,
showcasing the trophy, "You know, if
I had been with SkyBlaze, maybe we'd have had a shot at this trophy.
But sadly, with Evelina on board, you didn't even make it past the
preliminaries. The resurrection match? Won thanks to me."
Alaric reached out to touch the trophy, but Lemira pulled it back, stating plainly, "It's not yours to touch."
Alaric awkwardly withdrew his hand,
his gaze complex, "If I hadn't let
Evelina join the team and hadn't been so biased and harsh on you, would you have stayed?"
"There are no what-ifs or second chances in this world."
Lemira caressed the trophy, determined that no one from the Langston family would get their hands on it this time!
She turned to leave.
"Lemira, stop! Are you happy now seeing us like this?"
Asher was furious, grabbing Lemira's shoulder.
