What Separates Me and You

Chapter 487 She's Not Dumb

Tanya stared at the agreement before her and flipped through it.

"I don't know a thing about this. There's no point in giving it to me. Just deal with it between yourselves." She added, "I don't want to get involved with the Alvarez Family in any way."

Lewis questioned, "This is the fruit of Kiran's hard work. Are you sure you don't want it?"

She shook her head. "No. I just want to bring him home to that small house we live at."

"How about the companies abroad that are registered under his name?"

"I'm not sure about that either. The companies must have a lot of employees. I think they can take care of their companies."

Lewis explained, "I know you don't want to be involved, but you will be harassed by infighting within the company, as there is no leadership at the moment. It will be difficult to get some peace."

Startled, she looked at him in confusion. "So, what do I do?"

He smiled at her. "If you trust me, I can send someone to keep an eye on those companies. You don't have to worry about me. I will not touch his shares in his company."

He further advised, "You should take over the company and serve as its chairman. Then, you will appoint a president. That way, you have nothing else to worry about."

She was hesitant. "Is that all?"

"Of course. As long as you hold the shares, no one can snatch the company from you without your approval."

Tanya was a little perplexed. "But why are you helping me out?"

"I was Kiran's brother, after all." Lewis gazed at her sincerely. "Look, aren't you and I similar? I understand how you feel."

He seemed to fall into a daze. "No matter how much you own, it's pointless if you're alone in the world."

Tanya looked at him, feeling complicated. She could tell that he was genuinely feeling rueful. On top of that, his sickly look made him look more convincing.

After a while of fidgeting, she finally nodded. "Fine. I will do what you said."

Conrad reminded her, "Ma'am Torres, we still need you to sign the agreement as the legal recipient. If you do not want the shares, you need to authorize Mr. Lewis to manage them for you."

He placed another document in front of her. She finally understood that they had come prepared. If she refused to sign, it'd be hard for her to leave Lewis' office.

Thankfully, she had no ambition to fight for power and wealth. Therefore, she took a pen and quickly left her signature on the document. "May I leave now?"

"When a person dies, all the grudges against him are gone." Lewis sighed softly. "Madam, please reach out to me if you need anything. I promise you'll be well taken care of into old age. Conrad, send her home on my behalf."

"Sure."

Tanya glanced twice at Lewis. He seemed like an easygoing lad, but she knew he must be a complex person. Otherwise, he wouldn't make his way to his current rank.

She left the company with Conrad. At the elevator lobby, she insisted that Conrad stay back. After that, she departed alone.

Conrad returned to the meeting room and handed Lewis the document. "I didn't expect it to go this smoothly."

Lewis flipped through the pages and muttered, "She's not dumb."

Conrad nodded in agreement. Although Tanya appeared unambitious, she lived a better life than the others. She was acutely aware of her inability to manage Kiran's companies and his shares, so she'd rather let go of them coolly.

By doing so, she even made Lewis indebted to her. From that moment onward, she could live out the rest of her life without worrying about money.

"I bet she heard about what happened to Layla Saunders. That's why she didn't want to pull any tricks."

Conrad admired Tanya's ability to maintain her composure and gain pity in front of the murderer of his son. It was no surprise that a mother like her would produce a son like Kiran.

Conrad was suddenly reminded of another matter. "Do we continue the search for Kiran?"noveldrama

"Of course. We're not even yet." Lewis sounded calm, but his eyes betrayed his bloodthirstiness.

Conrad nodded. "Got it. I'll deal with his company for now. If he's still alive, I bet he'll be raging when he learns that his hard work is now in your possession."

It was easy to deal with Kiran's company abroad. What Lewis needed was to get rid of Kiran's men and some old-timers in the company. Then, he would place the people he trusted in the company and exhaust the company's resources from within.

Even if Kiran miraculously made his way back to the leadership position, he couldn't do anything to save the company.

"Go."

"Who would you like to send to the company abroad?"

Lewis rapped his knuckles on the table and sank into thinking. "What do you think of Sophia King?"

"Sophia? Can she achieve such a difficult mission? I'm afraid she wouldn't have the strength and charisma to keep those employees in their place." Lewis remarked, "How would that be? She has the backing of the Yale family."

"The Yale Family? Which one?" Conrad was perplexed and wondered if he'd missed some important details.

"More accurately, she has the backing from half of the Nelson family."

That did not clarify things for Conrad at all. He wondered aloud, "The Nelson family of Hardington?"

Lewis nodded and said wistfully, "The patriarch of the Yale family was once the right-hand man of the Nelson family patriarch. After the Nelsons were done for, that man took over half of the Nelsons' assets."

Conrad finally understood Lewis' reasoning. "If that's the case, we shall send Ms. King abroad."

"Yeah."

Once again, Conrad had to give it to Lewis' shrewdness. Anyone could tell that Sophia was eager to please Lewis. She'd definitely give her best when she was handed the tough mission.

When she ran into problems she could not overcome, she would turn to the Yale family for help. By that time, the Yales would officially have a stake in the matter.

The strategy meant that it wouldn't cost Lewis anything to make the Yales his ally. He needed their involvement because of the complicated and murky situation abroad. He did not know if Kiran had any forces backing him up. If anything happened, Kiran's men would go after the Yales.

Conrad couldn't help but marvel at Lewis' strategy. Without further ado, he immediately went to work.

Sophia was surprised and elated when she received the news. "Is Mr. Alvarez handing me the mission?"

Conrad gave her an unreadable look. "Yeah. I don't understand him. If you think it's too difficult, I can discuss the decision with him."

He expressed his lack of confidence in Sophia's capabilities through his words and attitude. He believed he was the right man for the job and was upset that he wasn't picked. He seemed to want Sophia to back off.

However, Sophia agreed to take on the task with a smile. "Conrad, thanks for letting me know. I will not disappoint Mr. Alvarez."

Conrad's unhappiness deepened. He examined her from head to toe with doubt. "Well, good luck, Ms. King."

She nodded with a smile. Even after Conrad left, she still wondered about Lewis' confidence in her. So, she texted Seth about it and asked his opinion on Lewis' decision.

Within two minutes, Seth called her back.
