Chapter 17 Stop Pretending to Be Pure and Innocent
As soon as she reached the door, she saw Kit smoking while leaning against the handrail.
Isobel stopped half a meter in front of him. “Kit Stewart, aren’t you afraid that Eduard would get even
with you?”
Flicking the ash, Kit laughed while looking at her. “Isobel Lewis, you can’t blame me for not giving you a
reminder. If I didn’t take you to this dinner tonight, someone else would. Martha Sutton is not a kind This is the property of Nô-velDrama.Org.
woman. Since you’ve annoyed her, you can only blame yourself for being so unlucky that you were not
born in a rich or noble family.”
“I actually want to be nice to you. I don’t want to get involved in the business between you two. So I just
take the dinner tonight as your apology to me. However --” He stopped before continuing, “Please don’t
blame me. I actually have informed Hamish Francis before coming here. If he wanted to save you, you
would be fine tonight. But if he was unwilling to come here, you can’t blame me. If I didn’t take you to
this game, others would also take you here.”
Finishing his words, he raised his hand to stroke her cheek. “Actually, I like you very much.
Unfortunately you didn’t have a good taste. Within so many men, you chose to be Hamish Francis’
date. All right, go in. As for the slap last time, I went to far impulsively. To save my dignity, don’t make a
fuss before I leave here tonight.”
Isobel knew that Kit was not a good person. The only advantage of him was that he would do bad
things aboveboard.
She also knew what Kit had said was true. He didn’t lie to her.
Martha hated her to the core. If Kit didn’t do this to her tonight, there would be someone else to do it.
She stared him for a while and remained silent.
Kit took her back to the private room. He sat for a short time before leaving with an excuse, leaving her
alone there.
After the private room’s door was locked, only Darren Chester and her were left inside.
Darren moved his chair a bit to get closer to her. “Miss Lewis, you were Mr. Francis’s date for three
years. I’m sure you are quite skilled.”
He emphasized “skilled” quite hard, which was like a harsh sting in Isobel’s ears.
She smiled slightly and dodged from his hand without a trace. “Mr. Chester, please don’t be kidding. I’m
not skilled at all. I’m just luckier than others.”
She indeed didn’t have any skill. She was just lucky and Hamish happened to be interested in her.
However, according to what was happening now, she didn’t think it was a fortune to have met Hamish,
either.
Darren wasn’t anxious. He poured a glass of wine for himself and glanced at her. “Miss Lewis, do you
drink?” he asked while shaking the glass.
Isobel shook her head. Darren smiled. “Miss Lewis, you are too straightforward to care about my
dignity.” As he spoke, he raised his head and gulped down the glass of wine in one sip. Frowning, he
continued, “Miss Lewis, I’ve always known you are a stunner since I met you a few years ago. Now I
know your personality is also quite blissful.”
Darren started talking dirty, his eyes becoming nasty.
Under his gaze, Isobel felt as if she was stripped naked for him to watch. She couldn’t help but stand
up. “Mr. Chester, I’m sorry but it’s getting late. I need to go home. I still have to go to work tomorrow.”
“Miss Lewis, are you pretending or don’t you really understand? Do you think you still can go home
tonight?”
Darren made it clear to her. Blood drained from Isobel’s face.
Squeezing her purse tightly, she looked clam. “Mr. Chester, you can choose any woman you like. Why
do you have to choose such a boring women like me?”
“Miss Lewis, you are wrong. There are so many women but they can’t compare to you. Miss Lewis, you
might not know. When Mr. Francis took you to different parties before, we all were so jealous of him.”
Darren’s words were extremely offensive. Standing there, Isobel felt her hands chilled. “Mr. Chester,
why do you have to do this?”
“Miss Lewis, why do you have to refuse me?”
As he spoke, he stood up, reaching out to hold her.
Isobel took a step back. He missed.
After Darren gulped down a few more glasses of liquor in a row, his face reddened. Seeing Isobel
dodging from him, he ran out of patience. Loosening his tie, he said, “Isobel Lewis, you were just a
mistress. Don’t pretend to be pure and innocent.”
As he finished his words, his face became cold. “Come on. Take her to my room!” he said to his men
outside the door.
“Let go of me!”
Isobel subconsciously wanted to escape, but the door of the private room was blocked. When she
managed to run out of the door, Darren’s men grabbed her and took her away.
