Chapter 13
Avril was busy in the kitchen for more than half an hour, finally, the food was served on the table.
Haider looked at the pitiful tofu stew and a bowl of rice on the table. The corners of his eyes twitched a bit.
"That's all?" He asked in disbelief.
Avril smiled cheekily. "Yeah. I was worried that you would be hungry if you waited for too long, so I only made one dish," she replied.
Haider looked at the clock on the wall, puzzled. He recalled that she went into the kitchen at 7:00 p.m. and it's already 8:30 p.m. now. So, did it mean that she spent one and a half hours just to make one tofu stew?
Avril 'carefully' scooped up a spoonful of soup into the bowl in front of Haider. "Hey, just soak cooked rice in soup, it's also one of the famous Chinese delicacies. I even added some extra ingredients for you. Try it!" Avril urged.
Seeing how solicitous she was, Haider kept his questions to himself.
"It might taste good, who knows? We can't judge a book by its cover!" Haider thought.
Haider scooped up a spoonful of rice and put it into his mouth.
Suddenly, he felt a surge of blood rush up to his brain.
There was a mixture of sweetness and bitterness in the soup and even the taste of mustard in it!
Haider shut his eyes in pain while trying to look calm. "Is... this really tofu stew?"
There were so many flavors in it, it was way past 'perfect1!
"Yeah, this is my new innovation dish. How is it? Is it delicious?" Avril's eyes shone brightly. She was looking forward to his reaction.
Haider reluctantly swallowed the rice in his mouth and gave a sad thumbs-up. "What a great idea! You're good!"
Avril was more than happy to hear that. "Hump! I shall see if you would continue asking me to cook for you in the future!", she thought.
She pretended to be flattered and said, "Do you like it? I can cook for you every day!"
"Ahem!" Haider was in shock that he nearly choked himself. He had to bend forward as he continued coughing.
Avril poured him a glass of water. "Don't worry. Take your time. Eat more if you like them."
Haider took the glass and quickly drank it. He finally felt better after he washed away the taste in his mouth.
"Would you like to have some?" He asked. He should not be the only one suffering through it.
Avril waved. "I am on a diet. I would skip dinner."
No way! She didn't want to be 'poisoned' by the food she cooked.
Haider's lips twitched. He took another two spoonful under the pressure of Avril's stare. And finally, he could not stand that yucky taste as he rushed to the washroom!
"Ew!" A loud noise came from the washroom. Avril was 'worried' and looked towards the washroom.
"He actually ate three spoonfuls?" Avril sighed and shook her head. "Looks like I have to 'improve' my skill next time!" she thought.
After throwing up, Haider leaned
against the wall with a pale face. "Avril, might have caught a cold last nightand have been feeling unwell. It's not because of your food..."
Before he could finish his words, he ran into the washroom again.
Avril 'kindly' took out some anti-vomiting medicines from a first-aid kit and she poured a glass of water. As Haider came out, she handed him the medicines and said to him sincerely, "Take some medicine, you may catch a cold now. It's quite chill night
Haider's face was pale. He glanced at Avril with a complicated look in his eyes and swallowed the pills. "Thank you."
At this point, if he did not realize Avril was trying to fool him, he would be too stupid!Content is © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
A glint flashed through Haider's
eyes. He put down the glass of water and looked at Avril sincerely "I'm really touched that you care so much for me. It's getting late. Why don't we go to our bedroom and rest?" Haider said.
Go to your room to rest? It's not even nine yet. Avril stood still on the ground. Her smile suddenly froze.
"Isn't it still early? It's not even nine yet. I usually sleep at eleven. I won't be able to fall asleep until that time." Avril replied. "You can't fall asleep?" Haider smiled ambiguously. "It doesn't matter. As long as I'm here, you can definitely fall asleep." Haider winked at Avril. Avril shivered after looking into Haider's eyes.
"No, no, no!" She shook her head in a panic, "That's not a good idea, Haider, we only met each other today."
Haider held her wrist and said in a hoarse voice, "Avril, I am a real man. I don't feel right not sleeping next to my wife. I am looking forward to our first night together!" No way! Was he serious about it?
Avril raised her head and stared at him in shock. She did not know what to do.
Haider squinted his eyes and looked at Avril. She looked cute and charming even though she was panicking.
Haider got up and carried Avril with his arms, slowly moving his way to the first floor.
