Chapter 427

Emmett abruptly grasped her chin, forcing her to look into his eyes. “Are you telling the truth?” NôvelD(ram)a.ôrg owns this content.

Clara felt like her soul was about to take flight. “Of course, I’m telling the truth. Why else would I dare to undress you?”

“But my memory doesn’t seem to align with what you’re saying.”

His words sent chills down Clara’s spine.

“So… in your memory, you undressed yourself?”

Clara was baffled and had no other choice but to play dumb.

Emmett looked at her carefully. She was clearly nervous, but it didn’t seem like she was lying. Was this all just wishful thinking on his part?

“Get out!” He suddenly couldn’t stand another second of seeing Clara.

Clara nodded hastily and turned to leave. As she reached the door, Emmett’s voice echoed behind her.

“Call Leah for me. From tonight on, she’ll stay in my room. This way, she can take care of me if I drink too much. And starting tonight, you’ll be standing guard outside my door every day!”

Clara turned to look at him. He knew that what he just said would clearly hurt her, so was he doing this on purpose?

Was he trying to make her jealous?

Or had he moved on and developed feelings for Leah?

Suddenly, Clara felt like her heart was being suffocated.

She had believed that as long as she was part of the Melendez family, Emmett wouldn’t accept Leah.

Now it seemed like she was just being delusional. Leah was moving into Emmett’s room, leaving Clara feeling like a relic of the past.

She left Emmett’s room and descended the stairs, exuding the aura of a walking corpse. She even bumped into a wall without feeling any pain.

“Are you slacking off?” Sophia’s voice rang out. It was full of disdain and contempt.

Clara looked up. “I… I just came out of Emmett’s room. I was just about to continue cleaning the bathrooms.”

“Then why are you walking this way?” Sophia squinted her eyes. “Are you planning to see the kids? Are you thinking of using them?”

Clara quickly shook her head. “No, it was Emmett. He told me to inform Leah that she can start moving into his room today.”

Upon hearing this, Sophia’s initial reaction was surprise, but it quickly turned into delight. “Are you serious? Did Emmett actually say this?”

“Yes.”

Clara didn’t want to say another word. She just wanted to hide and be alone, with no one to bother her or to talk to.

That’s wonderful! My son has finally come to his senses!” Sophia didn’t miss the opportunity to rub salt into Clara’s wounds. “He’s been wasting his time on you. It was the most foolish decision he’s ever

made! I told him a woman like you wasn’t worth it, but he wouldn’t listen. Now, everything is finally back on track, and I can finally relax.”

Clara clenched her fists so hard that her nails dug into her palm. The physical pain was nothing compared to the agony she felt in her heart.

“Alright, you go clean the bathrooms. I’m going to share this news with Leah now.” Sophia waved her off, not bothering to hide her glee. “Don’t delude yourself. You’re nothing to my son. If you behave, maybe I’ll put a good word for you so you no longer have to be a maid for the Melendez family.”
