Chapter 47
Chapter 47
Recap- ( I will be continuing from the recap of chap 26 so if you want to know from the starting refer to
that chap.)
After Kat’s talk with Raven she asked Ryder why he hired her to which she came to know that it was
Ryder’s parents who helped 18-year-old Raven to hire a lawyer, which happened to be Martha’s , his
receptionist’s father. His parents were close to Mr. Simon who is Raven’s biological father. Ryder also
tells her about her stepfather not being dead when she tried to kill him but was really dead after Ry
killed him who lived in a fake identity as Keith Gardener, whose death came out as suicide in the news
saving Ry out of the trouble. After their talk Ryder joined Kat and his employees in the canteen where
Kat comes to know Alex, with whom she had coffee before reconciling with Ryder, was ex of Martha
who became a douchebag to follow new Ryder’s path. After their work both Ryder and Kat goes to her
bestfriend Amanda’s (and hers) apartment where Amanda tells Kat about the case being dropped off
and that the cops told them to take the laptop or else it will be destroyed. She also comes to know that
her father (Damien) has written letters to both Nicholas (Amanda’s father and Damien’s bestfriend) and
Ryder telling them to take care of Kat. Deciding it was time to meet her parents she leaves with Ryder
to graveyard while Amanda goes to the police station. After her talk with her parents she leaves
graveyard with Ryder after he promises to her parents that he will take care of her. Now read the story
to know more.

*Kat’s POV
“Sir we have arrived.” says Mark.
“Thanks Mark.” Ryder says and got off the car. Soon after he stepped out, my side of the door was
opened by Mark. A very surprised Mark.
“You look surprised.” I commented while getting out of the car after thanking him. My comment on his
facial expression made him come back to earth and before I knew it he was back to his I-am-just-an-
employee-of-a-cold-CEO expression. I mean just blank.
“Yes Maam.” He replies.
“I take it that it’s the first time you are hearing him using the golden words.” I said while facing him to
see he had a small smile which was soon gone after looking behind me. Before I turned to see the
person behind me I saw a small-not-visible-if-you-don’t-concentrate nod from him.
“Thanks Mark.” Ryder scoffs at Mark for making me see that once there lived a ruthless cold Ryder. I
giggled after hearing Mark apologizing.
Ryder and I walked towards the police station with his hand on my back. I saw Mandy standing few feet
away from us. Before I could reach her. Ryder stopped walking making me turn towards him.
“Okay for the last time are you sure you didn’t even receive any calls or even missed calls from the
cops informing you about dropping the case?” He asks for the thousandth time. Okay that was
exaggerating but he asked me that question at least 10 times on the way here.
“Yes I didn’t receive anything from them. Why are you asking me that? Where they supposed to call
me? Isnt Mandy knowing it enough?” I asked so many question at one breath.
He runs his hand through his hair and exhales heavily. “Yes, you were the one supposed to get the call
not Amanda.”
“Why?”
“Because normally the procedure is that the person who gave the case must be informed about the
case and not the one related to that person.”
“Even so I wouldn’t get the call.”
“Why?”
“Because I wasn’t the one who gave the case. It was uncle Nat who gave the case not me. I wasn’t
even on earth at that time to be doing something sane.” I said thinking back to the time I felt desperate
to be with my parents and trying to gather the courage to just do it. But couldn’t because I was too
scared to hurt myself.
“So that must be why you didn’t get the call. Then, call Nathaniel to see if he got any call. So, we can
make sure that this news is not fake.”
“Wait are you trying to say that Mandy is lying? For what?”
“Look I don’t want to argue with you right now. I told you I feel something is off with her. Just check with
him will you.”
“Fine I will check with him. But if this is true then you must atleast try to be nice with her. She is my
sister.”
“From another mother.” He muttered under his breath trying to not let me hear it. Or atleast pretending
to not let me hear it. Shaking my head, I went to dialling Uncle Nat’s number. Why can’t boys
understand that sisterhood can be established without being related by blood.
“Hello.” A deep voice called me out from my thoughts.
“Hi uncle. I called to check if you got any calls from police station?”
“Wow straight to the point just like your father. No pleasantries.” He said chuckling. After a minute he
said “Yes cupcake I did receive a call from the police saying the case is being dropped.”
“Then why didn’t you say that to me?” This content belongs to Nô/velDra/ma.Org .
“I received it during my naptime I thought it was a dream so I totally forgot about it until you asked me.”
“Oh great. I would not have heard about it and the case would have been off the charts if Mandy didn’t
say that to me.”
“Amanda said that the case was dropped?” He asked me sounding surprised. Weird.
“Yeahh. We kept Uncle Nick as second contact so they must have called him after calling you.”
“Yeah, right. Okay cupcake I gotta go I was in between a meeting. Where are you now? When are you
coming to meet me?”
“I am standing in front of the police station now trying to see why they are dropping the case. I came to
you day before yesterday. But yeah, I will try to meet you soon. Got to go Bye.”
“Bye”.
I hanged up. And faced Ry with my eyebrows raised.
“Okay so she was telling the truth but that doesn’t hide the fact that she was hiding something.”
“Hey people hide things from others. It’s pretty common. I know that you too are hiding stuff.”
“No, I am not hiding anything from you. How can I hide anything from you?” He said while walking away
from me which itself was proof enough. I caught his hand and turned him towards me.
“Okay one, you are not looking at me while you said that. You never lied to my face.” “Other than when
you were being a cold-hearted beast” I said under my breath not meaning for him to hear but duh he
did we were standing very close. He stiffened when he heard that. So, I continued what I was saying to
change the topic. “So, that is a proof. Second, you didn’t tell the actual truth of how you escaped from
killing Raven’s stepfather.”
“I did-” He started but was interrupted by a cough from a person behind him. Due to him towering over
me I couldn’t see who that was until he turned around.
“Didn’t you guys had enough lovey dovey time when you were late to come here? Come it’s going to be
late.” She said walking off towards the police station.
“This is not over.” I said turning to Ry and walked off following Mandy. I heard a deep sigh behind me. I
am giving benefit of doubt to you Ry don’t break me this time.
“Wait.” Mandy said stopping in her path all of a sudden making me almost go and hit her if not for her to
hold me.
“Whom did you call? I saw you calling someone after you saw me standing here.”
“That was Uncle Nat. I called him to ask him about the case.”
“What? Why?” She screeched making me raise my eyebrows in confusion. Suddenly realising she was
caught she coughed to clear her throat. “Sorry my throat got dried due to the weather. What did he
say?” She asked trying to change my mind from noticing her reaction to the call. I decided to give her a
benefit of doubt and went along with her. Everyone deserves a chance to rectify their mistake and
come out clean.
“He said that he too got a call from the police saying the case is dropped and he was surprised when I
said that you too got the call.”
“Hah. Yeah, maybe he didn’t know about calling the person who is filled as your second contacts.” She
said fake smiling trying to cover her fear. I am your bestfriend Mandy. We shared everything, neither of
us can hide anything from another person. But I am willing to give you a chance.
Don’t break my trust you two.
