The True Lady Strikes Back novel (Cecilia and Christopher)

Chapter 239

Chapter 239

The plate of pasta retained by the hospital cafeteria was secretly brought to the laboratory by Aiden’s

secretary and handed over to Cecilia.

“Ms. Yancey, there’s something suspicious about this plate of pasta. Please look into it.”

After Cecilia asked about the details, she said, “Jeffrey wouldn’t leave such a glaring piece of evidence.

It’s unlikely we’ll discover any poison in this plate of pasta. Tell Aiden to arrest him directly and charge

him with an accusation.”

Certain medications can be beneficial when taken individually, but when combined with specific others,

they can become harmful.

Jeffrey was cautious and would likely divide the medication into two separate doses to achieve his goal

of poisoning.

The secretary, not well–versed in medical matters, naturally couldn’t grasp Jeffrey’s intentions.

He nodded respectfully. “All right, Ms. Yancey. I will convey your instructions to the commander. What

should we do with this plate of pasta then?”

“Keep it here. I want to find out what Jeffrey has added to this pasta.”

“Understood.”

The secretary left the laboratory and made his way back to the entrance of the intensive care unit,

relaying Cecilia’s message to Aiden.

Aiden didn’t issue an immediate order to capture Jeffrey.

To ensure the success of their future plans, they needed to proceed with caution when arresting

Jeffrey.

They had to find a legitimate reason for his arrest that would hold up in public.

As Aiden racked his brain for a suitable excuse, Jeffrey directly handed him the leverage he needed.

Jeffrey had a sense that Cecilia was becoming suspicious of him. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have NôvelDrama.Org: owner of this content.

requested another plate of pasta.

While that plate of pasta might not reveal any poison, Cecilia possessed exceptional medical skills and

could detect something amiss.

Time was running out for Jeffrey.

If he didn’t act promptly against those elderly individuals with military merits, he would miss his

opportunity.

Wolf Killer had planted an operative within the military hospital, not a prominent figure, but a cleaner in

the logistics department.

A cleaner may seem insignificant, but he had access to people Jeffrey couldn’t reach.

Jeffrey “accidentally” knocked over a reagent rack on a table, leading to a floor strewn with shattered

glass tubes. Reagents of various colors were mixed together, and some even triggered chemical

reactions, emitting unpleasant fumes.

The two laboratory technicians working with Jeffrey quickly covered their noses and mouths before

pushing him outside.

“Professor Farsons, let’s step outside for now. Let the cleaner take care of the cleanup later.”

Once outside the laboratory, one of the laboratory technicians noticed that Jeffrey’s hands were stained

with blue reagents. In a hurry, he said, “Professor Farsons, you should hurry to the restroom and wash

up.”

Jeffrey nodded and proceeded to the restroom.

He got in touch with the infiltrated cleaner, providing instructions for cleaning the lab and a brief outline

of the next task.

Shortly after, Jeffrey received an affirmative response.

After Jeffrey left the restroom, two cleaners had already entered the laboratory to start the cleanup.

Jeffrey raised his wrist and checked the time.

“It’s time to record the data for a Petri dish. I’ll step inside for a moment.”

One of the laboratory technicians immediately said, “Professor Farsons, we can handle it. That pungent

gas might be toxic.”

“The gas isn’t toxic, just unpleasant to smell. I’ve been observing and recording the Petri dish’s status.

You two wouldn’t notice anything. Wait outside. I’ll be back soon.”

With that, he entered the laboratory.

One of the cleaners was in fact a member of Wolf Killer.

Jeffrey was a “shareholder” and didn’t recognize the small fry within the organization. Fortunately, there

were markers to make it easy to identify those on his side.

As Jeffrey passed by his own people, he discreetly handed over the poison he had prepared long ago.

Then, he casually continued to observe the Petri dish and record the data.

Before long, holding the data, he left the laboratory and knocked on the door of the laboratory where

Cecilia was working.

“Ms. Yancey, we’ve had a major breakthrough in the detoxification experiment.”

To ensure that Cecilia wouldn’t take any immediate action, Jeffrey needed to make her aware of his

value, thereby making her hesitant to act recklessly.

It would buy him time to control those old military personnel.

Cecilia had just uncovered what had been added to the pasta when she heard Jeffrey’s words.

She briefly smiled and sent a message to Aiden.

“Aiden, keep a close eye on Jeffrey and everyone he’s been in contact with. He might be about to take

action.”

The speed at which Jeffrey had developed the antidote was suspicious.

After receiving Aiden’s response, only Cecilia left the laboratory.

“Professor Farsons, I apologize for the delay. I was in a critical phase of an experiment and couldn’t

respond immediately. You mentioned a major breakthrough in the detoxification experiment. Have you

developed the antidote?”

Jeffrey showed Cecilia the experimental data he held.

He smiled and said, “We’re getting close. All we need to do now is tweak the medication ratios.”

Cecilia looked at the data with an expression of amazement.

“Professor Farsons, you truly deserve your reputation as one of the top pharmacologists at the

Pharmaceutical Research Center. You’ve developed the antidote so quickly. Chris is going to be

okay.”

“Ms. Yancey, your medical skills are excellent as well. It’s thanks to you stabilizing Mr. Forte’s condition

that he could wait for the antidote.”

Cecilia returned the data report to Jeffrey and asked eagerly, “Professor Farsons, how long do you

estimate it will take to develop the antidote?”

“At the earliest, by tomorrow, but it depends on whether there are any

side effects. If any arise, it might take another day.”

“Just a couple more days, Chris can hold on. When he’s detoxified, he and I will make sure to express

our gratitude to you.”

Jeffrey shook his head. “Don’t mention it, Ms. Yancey. You’re now a shareholder in the pharmaceutical

company, and it’s only natural for me to assist you.”

After some polite exchange, Cecilia returned to her laboratory.

Shortly after, the cleaner also left.

When the member of Wolf Killer, disguised as a cleaner, attempted to harm an elderly revolutionary in

his 80s, he was caught in the act by a bodyguard.

Despite his immediate attempt to end his own life, he was unsuccessful.

All of his molars were forcibly extracted, and blood dripped from the corner of his mouth, splattering

onto the snow–white tiles, creating a stark and striking contrast.

The cleaner had a listening device on him, and Jeffrey quickly received the news.

He panicked for a moment but soon regained his composure.

The cleaner couldn’t betray him, and with Christopher’s life in his hands, there was nothing to worry

about.

At the very least, he could use the antidote to secure a chance to escape.

Once Aiden had caught the key figure, he didn’t worry about whether there was any evidence pointing

to Jeffrey. He decided to arrest Jeffrey without delay.

When Jeffrey saw Aiden personally arriving at the laboratory, he immediately panicked.

“Even if I were to be arrested, why should it be Aiden arresting me instead of the police?” Jeffrey

thought.

He struggled to maintain his composure. “Mr. Shaw, why have you brought such a large group of

people here?”

“I’m here to arrest you.”

With that, he gestured to his security detail behind him.

“Seize him!”

Jeffrey swiftly stepped back to avoid Aiden’s men.

“I was summoned by Ms. Yancey to assist Mr. Forte in his detoxification process. Why are you

arresting me? Even if you hold power and influence, you can’t simply disregard the law, can you?”

After uttering those words, he promptly seized a petri dish and issued a threat. “Stay back, or I’ll shatter

this dish containing the antidote, leaving Christopher to die!”

Aiden remained unruffled and commanded, “No one can threaten me. Arrest him!”

Jeffrey was well aware that it would be all over for him if he got caught.

He forcefully smashed the petri dish on the ground and then retrieved a glass orb, hurling it toward

Aiden’s feet.

Jeffrey had believed that as long as he held Aiden’s life in his hands, nobody would dare to harm him.

However, reality proved far harsher than his imagination.

Aiden identified the glass orb as the true culprit behind Elaine’s poisoning.

He narrowed his eyes, reached down, and deftly seized the glass orb.

Simultaneously, Aiden’s security detail captured Jeffrey and pinned him down on a lab bench.

Aiden toyed with the glass orb as he approached Jeffrey.

Beneath Jeffrey’s bewildered gaze, Aiden forced the glass orb into Jeffrey’s mouth, covering it and

delivering a powerful punch.
