Chapter 255 Sadness

Ranita was exhausted and slept soundly through the night. When she woke up, Brendon had already left for work. She got up, washed up, and had breakfast. Just as she took a few bites, the doorbell rang.

Looking through the peephole, Ranita saw Carl standing outside.

"What are you doing here?" Ranita opened the door with no expression on her face. Carl could sense that Ranita didn't welcome him and awkwardly handed her some fruit. "Ranita, I just wanted to come see you."

"I'm fine, thank you. You don't have to bring anything." Ranita refused his peace offering.

"Ranita..." Carl paused before letting out a long sigh. "I came here to say goodbye to you. I'm leaving Kurima tomorrow and I probably won't be coming back."

Carl had been thinking about the past these days. This content is © NôvelDrama.Org.

He wasn't from a wealthy family like Mia or even Ranita but he excelled in school and later made something of himself with Ranita's help until he did something unfaithful at the end.

Carl felt incredibly guilty about it all.

"Take care of yourself from now on!" Carl's voice choked up as his eyes turned red with tears. "Also... no matter what you think of me... I still want to apologize on behalf of Mia too."

"She shouldn't have done what she did that almost prevented your return home safely," he continued. "She has completely left Kurima now and cut off contact with me so she won't bother you

again in the future."

As she listened to him speak, Ranita felt uneasy about it all. She'd been under Brendon's protection since being found, and he hadn't told her anything about Mia. So, she didn't know...

"What are you saying? Mia caused me not being able to return home... what does that mean?" Pausing for a moment, Ranita raised her voice, "Is she involved?"

Carl was also surprised by this reaction from Ranita but tried his best to explain what little information he knew. "You don't know? Well, I'm not entirely sure either. I only heard Mia crying over how sorry she was and wanting to apologize but couldn't face you again."

"For more details, you might need to ask the police station," he added sympathetically before turning around and leaving.

Ranita simply nodded numbly before calling Marlon for more information. He briefly explained Mia's role in everything which left Ranita feeling even more confused than ever before.

"Miss Bowman, if you need any help, just let me know," Marlon paused before continuing. "There wasn't enough evidence against Mia so she's been released. However, Mr. Stuart kicked her out of Kurima and you won't be seeing her again."

After ending the call, Ranita's heart was heavy with disappointment. Her sincere feelings had been betrayed and any remaining sympathy for Mia had dissipated completely.

It was a shame that after three years of fighting together as comrades, they were now falling apart.

Ranita remembered a time when they went on a team-building trip and she ended up spraining her ankle. It was Mia who carried her down the mountain step by step.

Back then, their relationship was so good.

Ranita's mood remained subdued even after meeting Chris later on. Worriedly he asked her if she wasn't feeling well.

"I'm fine," replied Ranita with an effort to smile back at him, "Thank you for your concern."

After pausing for a moment, Ranita asked Chris seriously, "Mr. Webster, if one day someone who fought alongside you sold you out, what would you do?"

Chris drove thoughtfully for a while before answering, "What can I do? I'd have to deal with it!"
