Chapter 818
Ronald rushed in to help hold J down and shouted, "Get the doctor! We need a sedative now!"
It wasn't until the doctor gave J the sedative and she finally settled down that Ronald turned to Milo and asked, "Mr. Baker, are you okay? What about that scratch on your face?"
Milo felt his cheek and winced as he found the scratch J had left. "It's nothing. I'll still take J with me." They could not stay there a moment longer.
Ronald gave a nod of understanding. "Sure thing. The boss said Ms. Baker is like a daughter to you. You can take her if you want."
Once Milo had left, Ronald dialed Sean's number. "Mr. Smith, I need to take the surveillance footage with me."
It did not take long for Charles' keen eyes to spot something off about Milo in the footage. "He acted really weird when he saw J today, didn't he?" Ronald agreed and shared his thoughts before looking expectantly at Charles.
Charles gave a sly smile, tapping his long fingers on the desk. "You're getting sharper by the day. Let's dig into what Milo's hiding."
"Right away!"
"And don't forget, we need to look into the 'bad guy' and the kid J was talking about. If you're swamped, get Peter to send some help. Lareal's got a better handle on this stuff than you do."
Ronald could not help the involuntary twitch at the corner of his mouth. He wondered if Charles really was his boss. How could anyone have such a low opinion of their own assistant? Still, he managed to maintain a respectful tone and even added a dutiful, "Yes, sir."
"A dog?" Charles let out a sharp, mocking laugh. He couldn't believe he was hearing such a childish excuse from Milo.novelbin
He was just a kid when he first visited the Capiton Baker family, but he had witnessed J, who was even younger than him, cruelly torturing a dog with a knife and a vicious glint in her eye. Someone who was that evil from such a young age could not possibly have a soft spot for dogs. If she was raising one, it was probably just to mistreat it.
Arnold had also suffered at J's hands a few times. By then, J had grown into a poised and elegant young woman. With a personality like that, shaped over many years, how could she ever change?
"What about these documents, Mr. Hoffman?"
"Put them away for now," he instructed, then inquired, "Has Milo left Brookville?"
"I checked the flights. He's booked for the day after tomorrow!"
The day after tomorrow?
So, Milo would be in Brookville for two more days. "Is he at the hotel with J right now?"
"Yes, he's brought a doctor with him. They should be treating J as we speak."
Charles smirked slightly, surprised at Milo's thoughtfulness.
It looked like Milo had plans for his remaining two days in town. "Have all the previous photos been taken care of?"
"Relax. Our insider at the Hoffman's
has wiped everything clean. Those photos are gone. There's not a
speck of evidence left," Ronald said, but a
a hint of worry crept into his
voice. "But... your mom saw those photos. Do you think she might...?"
Charles lifted his gaze, shaking his head with a dismissive flick. "Even if she talks, it won't make a difference. What's Milo going to do with no proof?"
Besides, those pictures from that
night were a blurry mess. With J's emergency, Clarisse was
way too focused on her to catch a glimpse of what was in those
photos.
"Since J brought up a kid, why not throw in some baby pictures? We might as well see how Milo and my mom react to that!"
