Chapter 750

"Enough! Can't we eat a meal in peace? We have a guest, after all. Let's focus on the meal," Samuel, as the head of the family, quickly interrupted Jade.
He even shot her a sharp, cold glance.
Despite wanting to say more, Jade was silenced by Samuel's authority. She lowered her head and kept her thoughts to herself, but inwardly, she was furious with Noelle for not knowing her place.
The meal was quite tense. After they finished, Samuel invited Sean to play a game of chess.
Unwilling to pretend to be part of a harmonious family with the Shaws, Noelle accompanied them upstairs to Samuel's room.
Eli prepared Samuel's favorite Yorkshire tea, and Noelle busied herself with brewing it while Samuel and Sean focused on their game.
Surprisingly, Sean turned out to be quite skilled. Noelle had always known him as a carefree playboy and did not expect to see this calm, focused side of him.
Samuel was an accomplished chess player. Although he had lost to Charles before, he remained confident in his skills.
Yet today, he unexpectedly lost to Sean. This made Samuel regard him with newfound respect. "It seems even an old man like me would still sometimes make misjudgments. Mr. Smith, your chess skills are impressive."
A hint of amusement flickered in Sean's eyes as he rubbed his nose, almost as if he had been cornered. "You flatter me, Sir Shaw. Honestly, my chess skills were honed thanks to Charles. If you ever have some free time, you should challenge him."
"It seems you don't know yet? My grandfather is quite a chess enthusiast. There's no way he and Charlie haven't played before," Noelle remarked with a smile as she handed over the cup of tea.
"Grandpa, it looks like you've finally met your match."
"You cheeky girl!" Samuel shook his head. He accepted the tea and inhaled its fragrance, his eyes showing approval. "Not bad!"
Noelle smiled and handed the other cup to Sean. "Grandpa, you and Mr. Smith continue with your game. I'll be right back after a quick trip to the restroom."
With that, Noelle left Samuel's room. After using the restroom, she passed by the study and noticed the door was slightly ajar, with light streaming out. Curious, she moved closer and realized voices were coming from inside.
"Did you see how smug Noelle was

today? Does she think she has reached the top just because she has latched onto Bob? Does she- think she can break away from the Shaws now? Has she forgotten who introduced her to Bob in the first place?"
It was Jade's voice, and it was filled with bitterness. It sounded so hateful that Noelle felt an involuntary shiver.
She never imagined she would one day find herself eavesdropping on her parents, of all people.
Noelle had always known that her mother did not like her, but she had not realized the extent of it until now.
"Keep your voice down. What if someone hears us?"
"What's there to worry about? If
there's one thing I regret, it's
introducing Bob to her. An
opportunity that good should've
been Winter's. Just look at Bob'oet
demeanor, and then look at
Xavier's-it's like comparing night and day! No, what I truly regret is bringing that girl back into this house all those years ago." Jade's voice was filled with dissatisfaction.
"Watch what you say. You must never say that again!" Julian cut in sharply. "How many times have I told you?My dad doesn't like
hearing that, so you shouldn't say such things in this house. Besides, it was you who insisted on bringing her back." This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org: ©.
