The CEO’s Substitute Lover

Chapter 71: Mum’s Childhood Sweetheart

Watching Floyd smile every day, Ottilie understood at least one thing, the Drye Family was a very important ship to Group Davi, so if the marriage with Lilian Drye didn’t work out, Tredan Davi would have a lot to answer for.

So, Ottilie sets her heart on Lilian Drye and sets out to match her and Eddison.

This idea was met with strong opposition from Eddison, “Mum, she’s going to be my sister-in-law, why should I go after her? Besides, she’s not my type.”

“What sister-in-law? As long as she’s not married, she’s free and you have the right to pursue her. So what if they are married, she is not the one Tredan likes, sooner or later they will be separated, listen to me carefully, I want her as my daughter-in-law.”

“Mum, I’m your son, you’re asking me to marry someone I don’t love, aren’t you afraid I’ll become depressed and die early?” Eddison was simply out of his mind with rage.

“Oh, my silly son!” Ottilie said, rushing over to calm him down.

“I told you to marry her, I didn’t tell you to love her, marry her! As long as she’s my daughter-in-law, the Drye Family will always favor you, and then, you can keep whoever you like.” Ottilie was smugly calculating.

Eddison was furious, “Mum if my dad was like this, why would I follow in his footsteps?”

“How could that be? Your dad would never do that, I gave him such a wonderful son, how dare he have an affair?” Ottilie huffed.

“Mum, that’s a classic example of having a double standard. It’s like history repeating itself. If you want me to marry her, marry her yourself, I’m not doing this.” Eddison picked up his clothes, turned, and walked away.

“Hey, stop right there! Stop! Ouch, little ancestor, why don’t you get it.” Ottilie stomped her feet in exasperation.

Eddison was in a bad mood and drove to the Time bar.

Eddison hadn’t gone to another bar since he met Octavia Gills there, especially since Octavia Gills left, and he always came here unconsciously to recall the memories he spent with Octavia Gills.

Today, unfortunately, he ran into someone he didn’t want to see, and after thinking about it, he walked over to say hello.

“Hello, future sister-in-law, why are you alone, where’s my big brother?”

Lilian Drye looked at him and rolled her eyes, continuing to drink.

Eddison smiled, “Sister-in-law, you owe me a huge favor, don’t you? I’m guessing my brother will never drink again for the rest of his life, right?”

“Eddison, you’re doing this on purpose, aren’t you? I’m telling you, I know all about you and your mum’s little ways, and for the sake of you helping me out, I’ll let it slide, but go back and tell your mum that there’s no way she’s going to get ahead!”

Eddison laughed coldly, “I find you women are all so self-righteous.” He turned and walked away.

Eddison was having a few drinks and was sulking.

Lilian Drye came over and sat opposite him.

Eddison gave sneered at her and ignored her.

“Eddison, do me a favor!” Lilian Drye ordered.

“No such obligation!” Eddison balked.

Lilian Drye softened her voice, “Eddison, we had a deal, I’ll look after Tredan so you can go for Octavia, it’s mutually beneficial, yes, I was in a bad mood earlier and snapped at you, I apologize.”

“No need, Octavia is gone, your threat is useless.”

“Gone? Where did she go? Does Tredan know?”Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.

“To Japan, don’t worry, your husband won’t be able to find her either.”

“It can’t be! Tredan hasn’t even reacted? Could it be, could it be that they’ve broken off? Am I overthinking this and treating Tredan wrongly?” Lilian Drye muttered to herself, unable to help but rejoice.

Eddison snorted and picked up his phone, “Brother, I’m at the Time Bar, Lilian Drye’s had too much to drink, come and pick her up.”

Lilian Drye beamed and gave Eddison a thumbs-up sign.

“Aren’t you in? Just send her back.” Tredan Davi’s icy voice came over the phone and Lilian Drye’s expression faltered.

“Who am I to send her home, she’s not my fianc??e, I’ll wait for you for half an hour, if you don’t come I’ll leave, it’s none of my business anyway,” Eddison said hung up the phone.

“Sister-in-law, that’s all I can do for you, remember this favor, it’s to be returned.”

Lilian Drye clinked her glass against Eddison’s and trailed off, “Got it.”

Tredan Davi had come with Woodrow, Eddison was surprised, glancing at Lilian Drye who was lying on the table pretending to be drunk, amused that someone’s plan had gone awry.

Tredan Davi had never given Eddison a good look, and he was used to it. He nods and heads out.

Tredan Davi and Woodrow got Lilian Drye into the car together, Lilian Drye wrapped her arms around him like an octopus, and Tredan Davi expressionlessly untangled her arms and shoved her in, then got in the passenger side and instructed Woodrow, “Drive!”

Lilian Drye lay back and murmured, “Tredan, Tredan, I love you.”

Tredan Davi frowned and glanced back, Lilian Drye’s long hair was spread across her face and her expression was unreadable.

Woodrow glanced in the rear-view mirror too and was about to speak when Tredan Davi shook his head gently.

Woodrow would have understood.

“Tredan, are you going to wait until the project is finished before you get married?”

“Well, there’s always something for everyone.”

“That’s hard on Lilian, it’s hard for her to agree.”

“Actually, she’s always been very reasonable and competent when it comes to big issues, and she’s basically in charge of external communications now.”

“Oh? Is that so? I can’t imagine that someone with her princess temperament could be so competent at work.”

Lilian Drye’s heart fluttered as she listened to Tredan’s admiration for her, and she couldn’t help but move.

Woodrow and Tredan Davi exchanged glances.

Tredan Davi continued, “Tempers are high in private, and I’m kinda overwhelmed, especially with the follow-through on all angles, I can’t breathe.”

“She’s probably uncomfortable with you, and a diamond in the rough like you, of course, she has to keep a closer eye on you.”

“We’re already engaged, if I didn’t want to be, I would have gone to the venue like last time, and since I did, I made my intentions clear, what more do I need to do?”

“So that’s why you’ve been so upset all this time?”

“Well, it doesn’t feel like a relationship, it’s almost as good as being a prisoner.”

“Then you can talk to Lilian.”

“Do we need to talk about such things? Isn’t she supposed to think and act on her own? What’s there to talk about when you can’t even think about it.”

Lilian Drye’s heart was already bursting with joy, although her plans for Tredan Davi failed today, she had gained a lot, it wasn’t that Tredan didn’t have her in mind, it was her actions that had turned him off, luckily she had found out early.

Tredan was right about her having a temper, and if he didn’t agree to their engagement, he would not have shown up, as he did last time. He is a man of his word.

In the future, one has to change one’s approach, give him freedom, let him discover his goodness and fall in love with her again, and erase Octavia Gills’ traces in his heart little by little. Didn’t Eddison say Octavia had gone to Japan? If Tredan Davi was still in love with her, he would have gone after her.

See, Lilian Drye is invincible, there’s nothing she can’t get if she wants it, no, Tredan is not a thing, ah, no.

Lilian Drye sniggered inwardly, with unbridled pleasure.

Leaving the Drye Family, Woodrow said as he drove, “Tredan, we’re all set with the company, the next step is to sort out the plan for Auntie Althena first.”

“Yeah, I understand.” Tredan Davi said lightly as he stared ahead.

“Let’s go to Time for a drink,” Woodrow suggested, he’d been tired as hell for a while and wanted to relax.

“I’m quitting. I’ll never drink again.” Tredan Davi’s voice was calm.

“Oh? Why? It’s not like I drink too much.” Woodrow wondered.

Tredan Davi was silent.

“What’s the update on Blue Mountains?” Tredan Davi asked.

“I was just about to tell you about it. The paperwork is all in order, but we’re having trouble getting people to help out at Blue Mountains, so we’ll have to plan for that. Also, don’t you want to let Auntie Althena know that once the opportunity arises, our people will take Auntie Althena? She may not want to go with them.”

“I’ll think about what to say to my mother about this.”

“Let’s be honest, Tredan, your problem is that you are always doing things on your own and not informing me about them. There is a process to follow and there are so many variables in the process that no one can be sure, especially when we act by ourselves. Don’t believe in the nonsense that your heart is in the right place, it’s just the ancients glorifying their deceptions.”

Tredan Davi shuddered, this testament was proven by his relationship with Octavia Gills.

“You have a point, a good point.” In a rare moment, Tredan Davi acknowledged that someone else was right.

Woodrow smiled smugly, “It makes sense to you too, doesn’t it? That’s what Domino said, she just doesn’t have the guts to lecture you to your face, it’s a backhanded nag, but I think it’s like saying Mum’s always right.”

Blue Mountains Psychiatric Hospital.

Tredan Davi struggled with how to talk to his mother about what his plans are, or maybe he was in doubt if he should tell his mother at all.

He sat with his mother under the grape arbor in the small courtyard, where he had taken her out for a walk and a chat since Grimm Drye had had a showdown with him because he didn’t know if there were any listening devices in the house.

“Something on your mind, son?” Althena Cockey asked gently.

Tredan Davi sat across from his mother and looked at her kind face and suddenly had the urge to confide in her. Woodrow and Domino were right, but he had closed himself off from the age of three and had never done anything like confide in anyone.

Tredan Davi spoke to his mother about himself and Octavia.

Looking at the pain on her son’s brows, Althena Cockey’s hand caressed his face, “O son! You are so silly, such a nice girl, it is you who has broken her heart.”

Tredan Davi bowed his head.

“Promise your mother that when the time is right, you’ll go and get her back, true love only comes once in a lifetime.”

Tredan Davi lifted her head, “Definitely.”

Althena Cockey smiled, “So about Lilian, what are you going to do?”

“Mum, I want to talk to you about this, but you must be reassured, trust me, and don’t be afraid.”

“Silly boy, do you think there is anything to be afraid of when you get to the point where mummy is now?”

With a sinking feeling in his heart, Tredan Davi spilled the beans on Grimm Drye’s threats and his plans with Woodrow.

“Mum, I will tell you at the right opportunity who will go with you, that is Woodrow’s and my side. The first chance they get, they will take you away and you have to trust them.”

Tredan Davi was worried, the fact that he couldn’t find out what Grimm Drye was capable of and couldn’t guarantee the safety of the plan made him very anxious.

Althena Cockey patted the back of Tredan Davi’s hand, which was clutching the armrest of the bench with knuckles turning white from the effort, and was silent for a long time.

“Son, go do something for mum.”

“Okay, Mom, what do you need?”
