“You may be pregnant, my lady.” Alexa’s dry mouth slackened, her eyes widened, a lump formed in her throat and her head shook vigorously.
“No way. That can’t be. It’s impossible. How could I be pregnant?!” Alexa leaned back to steady herself and a sheen of sweat broke on her face.NôvelD(ram)a.ôrg owns this content.
“I’ll leave now, my lady. If you need anything, you can reach me through the phone on the desk or ring a bell.” She bowed one last time before heading to the door.
“Wait!” The old lady stalled. “Send for one of the young maids. Tell her to get a pregnancy test kit as soon as possible.” She rubbed the back of her neck and paced about the moment the door clicked.
Pregnant?
Biting at her fingers, Alexa mused, trying to put two and two together. She hadn’t seen her period in two months. Alexa hadn’t given it much thought because it fluctuated sometimes due to stress. It was also about two months ago that she’d had sex with Nolah without pills. Nolan hadn’t also used protection that day. Her heart raced, and her mouth fell open. She reached for her cell phone and checked the internet for the apparent symptoms of pregnancy. It wasn’t as though she didn’t know some of them, she just wanted to be sure.
She massaged her temple and gripped her phone tight the moment her fear stared right at her. The knock she had been expecting came just in time and she ordered the young maid in. Without wasting any time, she grabbed the kit from her and headed to the bathroom. A few minutes later Alexa came out of the bathroom with dilated eyes and parted lips. Her belly fluttered and her heartbeat raced. Falling to her knees, she blinked rapidly. Colour and sheen replaced the paleness of her face.
“I’m pregnant! I. AM. PREGNANT!” Alexa exclaimed, whoopeeing. She fanned herself with her hand as sudden heat coursed through her body.
The old maid from earlier rushed in as she heard Alexa’s scream.
“Is everything alright, my lady?”
Steadying herself, Alexa sat at the edge of the bed. The young maid who brought the kit was at the corner of the room. She mouthed to the old lady that Alexa was pregnant.
“I’m. Pregnant,” said Alexa again. “Don’t tell Nolan a thing about this. It’s gonna be a surprise.”
The next day, Nolan was all dolled up for work. He reached for his wristwatch from his shelf and glanced at an unusually quiet Alexa.
“Are you alright, Alexa?” He asked, leaning forward.
“Sure. I’ve never been better.”
“Great. Ensure you rest well today, and remember to stay indoors. Don’t even take a walk. I forbid you to.” He held her chin firmly, his eyes straining hers, and Alexa nodded. “I’ll be heading out now.” Nolan planted a feathery kiss on her lips before bidding her goodbye.
About twenty minutes after Nolan left, Alexa headed out of the room, dressed in the silk yellow dress and sweater Nolan got her. She managed to evade the maids, and once they were out of sight, she made her way out of the mansion.
About ten minutes later, she walked into the first gift shop she spotted. Her eyes caught a small green box, and she grabbed it. She headed to the counter and paid with her credit card.
Now, she could keep the pregnancy test kit safely in there.
The moment she walked out of the door, four menacing figures accosted her. Alexa’s heart immediately caught in her throat the moment she stared at a familiar face. It was Cody, her ex-boyfriend.
