Chapter 5 The Big Misunderstanding
Calvin soon realized what was happening. He became as cold as usual when he turned around and met his mother's gaze.
"Who is this young lady, Calvin?" Beatrice asked. Her face brightened as soon as she noticed the woman hiding behind her son.
Calvin was unable to answer his mother's question. He wrapped his arms around Jocelyn's waist as if he had made a life-altering choice and explained, "Mom, come and meet my girlfriend!"
Jocelyn gave him a disapproving look of surprise. Since she had no idea who he was, she had no interest in being his girlfriend.
"Yes, stranger, I can see why you want your mom to stop worrying about you. Do you think it's not appropriate to involve me in this?" She thought to herself.
"What's your name, my dear?" Beatrice sized up Jocelyn and asked. She thought she had seen her somewhere before.
Beatrice found the young lady to be as attractive as she had hoped her future daughter-in-law would be.
"Honey, tell Mom your name."
Calvin had no idea who Jocelyn was, so he convinced her to cooperate with him by pinching her around the waist and winking at her.
Unconsciously reacting to a tickle in her waist, Jocelyn twisted her body. However, she accidentally made it seem like she wanted to get closer to him.
Jocelyn was forced to speak up after being confronted by Calvin's threatening stare, "Mom. Oh! Sorry, madam. My name is Jocelyn Murray."
Beatrice was overjoyed when she heard Jocelyn call her "Mom." "Are you Helena Murray's daughter Jocelyn? Did you play a part in the TV show the Jones Girls when you were a kid?"
Jocelyn's eyes glowed. "Yeah! Do you know my mother and my show? "
"Of course! And, your mom and I were once close friends."
After learning that Jocelyn would be her future "daughter-in-law," Beatrice's joy grew. She turned to face her son and asked, "How long have you been together? Why you kept it a secret from me."
"We've been dating for quite some time. I didn't tell you because I wanted to surprise you."
Calvin began to be grateful for the fact that Jocelyn was there. Otherwise, if Beatrice returned unexpectedly, he wouldn't be able to find a suitable woman to pretend to be his girlfriend right away.
Nonetheless, he was surprised to learn that Jocelyn was Helena Murray's daughter.
"Are you Jocelyn Murray, who just announced her retirement after winning Best Actress five years ago? I had no idea you're a mother." The thought crossed Calvin's mind.
He had a feeling the previous rumor about her eloping with a rich foreigner was true.
"Nice! Wouldn't that be perfect? How about you two get married tomorrow?"
Beatrice was so satisfied with her "daughter-in-law" that she wanted them to marry as soon as possible.
"Huh? Isn't that too soon for us?
Jocelyn felt like crying. She hoped she could find her daughter there rather than being forced into an arranged marriage.
"Okay, mom. We'll get married tomorrow."
As a good son, Calvin wanted to make his mom happy at any cost.
"All right. You guys can keep making out now. I'm going back to the East Side."
Beatrice left quickly with a smile, so Jocelyn didn't have time to correct the huge misunderstanding.
Jocelyn angrily pushed Calvin away and yelled, "Why did you lie to your mother? I don't even know who you are!"
"You don't know me? But you kissed me in the hotel earlier!"
He couldn't just let her go after they'd shared a passionate kiss.
Jocelyn was at a loss for words.
"But even if I messed with you first, you can't get back at me in this way! It's not fair!" She thought to herself.
"I couldn't care less about that. Anyway, I'm leaving with my daughter right now."
Jocelyn attempted to leave the house while carrying Tammy, who had dozed off on the couch. On the other hand, Calvin instructed the servant to shut the door.
"You can't leave without my permission," he sneered.
Jocelyn said hesitantly, "You're detaining me illegally, which is against the law! I'm calling the police right now."
"You can call the police. By the way, I want to ask the cops how long someone needed to stay in jail if they conspired to commit fraud with their children."
"What?"
Jocelyn was stunned. She couldn't believe she was so out of luck that she got involved with such a jerk.
Jocelyn deliberated for a moment before deciding not to offend him because she was at a disadvantage.
She finally gave in and said, "Fine. Please tell me what exactly should I do to get out of here." Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
With serious eyes, Calvin told her, "I need a fake wife, so I'm hoping we can get married for a half- year period."
Jocelyn conceded defeat after only a few seconds of staring at him because he appeared so oppressive.
"What do you mean? Are you saying you want to hire me as your wife?"
"Yeah, pretty close."
"You can't afford to have me!"
Jocelyn used to be an actress, so she regarded money as the most important thing when it came to working.
"If you marry me, I'll give you two hundred thousand dollars," Calvin said.
"Only 200 thousand dollars? That's not enough!"
Jocelyn remained hesitant because she did not want to go through the trouble of getting married and divorced for only $200,000.00.
"How about 2 million dollars?"
Jocelyn thought that was a reasonable price because that was enough for her to feed her kids.
While she was debating whether or not to accept, Calvin said to her, "My final offer is $2 million a month. If you don't want to collaborate with me, then just forget it. There are plenty more fish in the sea."
Jocelyn began to do the math: if she got 2 million dollars a month, she would get 12 million dollars after six months.
Jocelyn immediately said, "I didn't say no! Okay, I agree to marry you. But I think we have to sign a contract."
"Sure!"
Soon, Calvin had his assistant prepare a first draft of the agreement.
Jocelyn found his conditions hilarious after reading them.
Not only was she not allowed any physical contact with him, but he also forbade her to fall in love with him or make a public announcement of their relationship during their marriage.
However, she thought she should be the one to come up with these terms.
They eventually agreed on their interest rates, and their agreement became effective after they signed it.
When Jocelyn signed the contract, she discovered that the man was Calvin, president of the Plexis Group, one of the most well-known companies in the city.
Jocelyn knew Calvin years ago because he was a genius who created a game that once became a worldwide phenomenon when he was a child.
He founded his own game company in his teens, and by his twenties, he had amassed so much wealth that he was the wealthiest person in Glebey.
She had no idea she was married to the richest man in the city.
Jocelyn stood up after putting down the pen and said, "Are you happy now? Can I take my daughter away?"
Calvin couldn't let go of her because they hadn't yet obtained their marriage license.
"Doris, please take my wife and daughter to their rooms to rest," Calvin said to the maid.
"What? Wife and daughter? Is he serious? Is he afraid I'll abandon him if I go?" Jocelyn thought to herself.
Jocelyn began to negotiate with him. "It's fine for me to stay here, but I need to call my son and tell him I won't be returning tonight."
Incredulous, Calvin asked, "You have a son?"
