Kate accidentally dropped the fish stew she was holding. The creamy white liquid splashed everywhere, scalding her legs and leaving red marks.

However, Kate didn’t care about any of this at all. It was as if she couldn’t even feel the pain. Her face was full of excitement as she looked at Alex, and a line of hot tears slid down her cheeks.

“Are you telling the truth? Or am I just hallucinating?” Kate asked incredulously, staring at Alex.

Instead of answering Kate’s question, Alex picked her up and gently placed her on the couch. He then opened the first aid kit, took out the burn ointment, and carefully applied it to her wound.

At this moment, Kate’s emotions were quite complicated. Watching Alex carefully apply burn ointment for her, she unexpectedly felt a hint of tenderness, as if they were in a romantic relationship.

She had known Alex for so many years, and that was the first time in her life that he had shown concern for her. If it had happened more than a year ago, she might have been swept away by it. However, things have changed.

After composing herself, Kate feigned a delicate demeanor. “If being like this can earn your care and love, I wouldn’t mind even if my legs were truly broken. I’d rather be a little more foolish.”

As Kate spoke, she leaned her head on Alex’s chest, listening to the sound of his heartbeat. Alex didn’t push her away. Instead, he embraced her in his arms.

“Alex, do you really want to marry me? Is it because of what happened today that you made this decision? If you don’t want to, I won’t force you. Even if I have to suffer a bit, it doesn’t matter as long as you’re happy.” Kate said understandingly.

With a long sigh, Alex finally let go of his feelings for Maggie. A woman as wonderful as Maggie deserves to meet someone even better for her.

“No. It’s time for me to take responsibility for you and our daughter properly. Both of you will receive the status you deserve!” Alex said.

Kate’s eyes filled with tears of excitement. “Thank you, Alex. From now on, I will be a good wife and a good mother. I will take good care of Emma and treat Stanley as if he was my own child.”

“I’m glad to hear that. There’s still some work at the company, so I’ll head there for a bit. Your burn hasn’t healed yet, so rest well!” Alex gave Kate a peck on her forehead and left the villa.

While watching Alex drive away from the second-floor balcony, Kate finally took out her phone and - dialed a number.

“You did a good job. I’ve already had the money sent to you. Try not to show up in Nebula City in the future. If you dare to speak carelessly, I’ll have someone cut off your tongue!” Kate said.

“Please don’t worry. Ms. Sutton. I will take my son to another city right away. We won’t appear here again in the future.” The voice on the phone was that of a woman. If Alex were still around, he would definitely recognize it as the voice of the woman who had previously humiliated Kate.

After hanging up the phone, Kate watched the direction where Alex’s car had disappeared. Then she muttered to herself. “Alex, oh Alex, perhaps without this approach, you might’ve never married me in

this lifetime! I know I don’t have a place in your heart, but what does it matter? All I want is your status and position, that’s all.”

Inside the chairman’s office of Four Seas Corporation, Alex asked a question as he looked at Jessica, who had just returned to work. “What’s going on? How’s the house renovation coming along?”

“The renovation is already complete. I can move in any time I want. Thank you, Mr. Jefferson. I’d like to invite you to visit my house Would you like to come?” Jessica requested.

Seeing that Alex was hesitating. Jessica quickly said, “You went through so much trouble to get me a house. Can’t I just treat you to a meal?”

“All right! You arrange it then.” Having heard what Jessica said, Alex didn’t feel it was appropriate to refuse her invitation and could only agree to it.
