Chapter 1040 An Unsettling Aura

Alex gazed at the invitation card before instinctively turning to Garett, who met his gaze with a knowing smile.

It was evident that Garett was offering his assistance. Without hesitation, Alex accepted the card, fully aware of the opportunity it presented to acquire the Blood Ganoderma.

“You’re Mr. Greaves’ nephew?” The security guard stared at Alex in shock, unable to believe his ears. All this time, he had always considered Alex to be a pauper, but who would have thought that he was actually Mr. Greaves’ nephew? This revelation commanded respect from the security guard, who addressed him accordingly.

“Why? Don’t you believe me?” Alex raised an eyebrow and gave the security guard a teasing look. He understood that Garett must hold some importance for the security guard to treat him with such respect.

Upon hearing Alex’s words, the security guard immediately responded with great respect, “Don’t be silly, Mr. Jefferson. Why would I ever question Mr. Greaves? I’ve been such an ignorant fool in the past. Please forgive me if I’ve ever crossed you.”

He even went so far as to kneel before Alex and rub his shoes as a gesture of sincerity. Têxt © NôvelDrama.Org.

Alex was taken aback by the security guard’s display of subservience. Realizing that the guard was a coward at heart, he decided to let the matter slide and entered the auction with Garett.

“Thank you for your help, Mr. Greaves. I’m Alex,” Alex said as he returned the gold-plated invitation card to Garett.

Garett accepted the card with an amicable smile and replied, “You’re welcome. So what caught your attention in this auction, Alex?”

Alex got straight to the point, stating, “I’m here for the Blood Ganoderma!”

“The Blood Ganoderma!” Garett regarded him more seriously at the mention of the Blood Ganoderma. “I’ve received information that the final item up for auction tonight will be the Blood Ganoderma. It’s an exceedingly rare and sought-after item desired by many. Even renowned martial arts sects have

dispatched their members to acquire it. Be prepared, Alex. The Blood Ganoderma will be valued at least in the hundreds of millions.”

Garett, despite having good intentions, believed that obtaining the Blood Ganoderma would be an immense challenge for Alex.

However, Alex remained undeterred by Garett’s warning, fully aware of the fierce competition he would face. It wasn’t a problem for him as the highest bidder ultimately prevailed in auctions.

As Alex observed Garett, he couldn’t help but hesitate to voice his thoughts. While Garett appeared genuinely kind-hearted, emanating an aura that only came from consistently showing kindness to others. Alex was perplexed by an underlying unsettling energy surrounding him.

It puzzled Alex that someone like Garett, who should have been blessed despite any hardships in life, carried such an aura.

“Mr. Greaves, do you have any children?” Alex inquired.

He speculated that there might be a connection between Garett’s unsettling aura and his family or ancestral heritage, for Garett should have been leading a blessed life by now.

Garett was taken aback by the question. He decided to be open and transparent even though he was unsure of what Alex was alluding to. “I do have a son and two grandchildren. Is there a particular reason you’re asking, Alex?”

Just as Garett finished speaking, the auction was about to begin. Alex brushed off Garett’s inquiry and proceeded into the hall.
