Bothered
ZOE felt the excitement and fear that lingers at the same time. She only needs to wait for a few hours before Grant will pick her up. Helios reminded her that it was Grant who would fetch her so that it would be safer. Puzzled, she still agreed. “At least bring some clothes, honey,” it was her mom. Zoe smiled as she sat on the small couch. “It’s fine, mom. Helios told me that we’d buy stuff once we get there,” she replied. Iris arched her brow and nodded after. “Are you sure about this, Zoe?” Zoe frowned. “Why are you asking me that, mom?” she laughed, “of course.” Iris pressed her lips together. She shook her head and heaved a deep sigh. “I don’t know why but I have a bad feeling—” “Mom… what are you talking about? I accepted it. I am taking the risk with Helios.” Iris moved close to Zoe and reached for her daughter’s hand. “Promise me that you will call me if something happens—” “Mom… please, I don’t want to leave with those thoughts that you want to insert inside my head. I promise…” she smiled, “—I will be okay. This will be over soon,” she added. Iris smiled and hugged Zoe. Zoe then hugged back and caressed her mother’s back. They stayed like that for a while when suddenly, they heard a loud car horn. They let go of their hugs, and Iris smiled at her daughter as she stood up. “That might be Grant,” Iris said. Zoe nodded and walked towards the door. Her mother accompanied her until they stepped outside. Grant waved his hand at Zoe and her mother soon as he walked near them. Iris smiled. “Grant, please take good care of my baby. Tell it to your cousin, or else I’m going to cut his balls—” “Mom!” Iris let out a soft chuckle. “I’m just kidding, honey.” Zoe shook her head and walked toward the car. the passenger seat. “Grant…” Iris called Grant’s attention. Grant then closed the door and turned to face Iris. “Yes, ma’am?” “I hope everything will be fine. Keep my Zoe safe,” Iris said. Grant clenched his jaw and sighed. He nodded and said, “I will, ma’am. We’ll get going then.” Iris nodded as she waved her hand toward Zoe. Grant then turned to the side and sat in the driver’s seat. “Bye!” Zoe uttered as she waved her hand. After that, Grant sped away from their apartment. Zoe took a deep breath and sighed. “Did you bring your vitamins?” Grant breaks the silence, which makes Zoe look at him. “Yes. It will last for two months.” Grant nodded and stepped on the accelerator. Zoe’s forehead knitted when she felt that Grant had increased the speed of his car. “You can drive slow, Grant. It’s dangerous—” Zoe paused when she heard Grant’s laugh. “Don’t worry, Zoe. I can manage. Besides, we’re almost there,” he replied, but his attention was in front, and keep on glancing at the side mirror. She frowned and was about to look at the rearview mirror when Grant closed it. “What’s wrong—” “We’re here,” he said as he entered the wide lawn. “I thought we were going to the airport—” “Helios’s private plane parked at the edge.” Zoe pressed her lips and nodded as she looked outside the window. After a few minutes, Grant’s car stopped in front of a three-story modern building. “We’re here. Let’s get inside first as we wait for Helios,” Grant said as he unbuckled his seatbelt and got off the car. Zoe then followed. However, she was about to open the door on her side when Grant did the favor. She let out a faint smile. “Thank you,” she said.
Grant put his hand inside his pocket and nodded. After that, he turned his back and walked away from her. She doesn’t know what’s wrong with Grant. He seems cold. The Grant she knew smiled brightly and even started a teasing game. ‘What’s going on?’ she thought as she followed Grant’s steps. Grant opened the glass door and stepped inside the house. Zoe wandered her eyes. It was nine in the evening, yet the lights on the broad road shone brightly. She could clearly see the surroundings, but she couldn’t see any plane. “Move faster,” Grant uttered, making Zoe turn her gaze on him and nod.
