‘I am, yes.’

‘Rise. I’m waiting for you at the company.

“I don’t want to go today. I massaged my cracked head.

‘Why?’

‘I just don’t want to.’

“You promised me last night. Be a good girl and come,” Eric tried to persuade me like I was a child, I

couldn’t refuse because I just loved her voice. And God, why does he have to be so kind?

Meeting my silence, he said, ‘Why don’t I get you?’

‘No. I can do it myself,’ I declined.

“I’ll be waiting, then.” Do not be late. Then he ended the call.

I sat up, confused. That call felt like a dream, so I rubbed my head again and bit my finger. Wow, it

hurt. Okay, the call was real. I was a married woman. Having a bachelor treat me like his mistress was

wrong, as that was treason. Yeah, technically it wasn’t cheating, but it was close.

My marriage was a failure, but I never intended to cheat – I wasn’t trying to defend something like my

integrity, but I never felt the need to. My initial plan had been to enlist Eric’s help in sabotaging Carson,

but now I was off the rails; Staying with him was never in my plans.

Still, we kissed. I wasn’t a slut, although I couldn’t say for sure how I felt about Eric. If I didn’t like him I

could have slapped him when he kissed me, but! no. This wasn’t love, I thought – because I didn’t think Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.

I could love after what Carson did – I probably just liked him.

He was everything a woman wanted, so almost no woman could resist him, including me. Ah, I derailed

again. He’s waiting for me, so should I go?

After what happened, if I went now, I’d be giving him a pass to continue what he was doing. If he didn’t,

he would have to give up on having his help to get back at Carson. Ui, what should I do?

A little later, Mrs. Fant came knocking. “Are you awake, Lily?”

I said yes and went to open the door for her. ‘I saw Carson yesterday, Lily.’ She entered.

‘Where?’

‘At the Mall. I went there with Scott to get some clothes, then I saw him with another woman in the

elevator.’ She looked at me furtively. ‘They seemed very close, talking and laughing.’

It must be Jolene. Despite my perception, I looked at her calmly. ‘Oh, he told me about it

yesterday. That’s my friend.’

‘Is she your friend? But I saw Carson buying her clothes. What kind of friend would ask another’s

husband to shop for clothes with her?
