“A Thing Came Up.” I informed Carson about Robin’s car accident. When I told him the compensation

could reach millions. Mrs. Boyer muttered beside us, “Robin Hamilton never behaves. Instead of

studying hard, he’d rather spend all that money on a car. Look at him now, getting into a car

accident. How is he going to pay the compensation?”

“It’s impossible for him to get the money so I bet the burden is on Jolene.”

The look of Mrs. Boyer passed Carson before landing on me. “Lily, she didn’t borrow it from you, did

she?”

Upon hearing my mother-in-law’s question, I smiled. “Mom, where do I get the money? As my friend,

Jolene is very clear about my situation. I’m broke, but my husband is rich. Carson, if she asks you to

borrow it, would you take it?”

“Why should we lend her money? It’s a huge amount! Also, Jolene is her friend, not

Carson’s. Mrs. Boyer was the first to object.

“I’m just saying. I never said that she will definitely ask for money. Oh right, I heard Jolene’s dad hit the

jackpot the last few years. I think she probably doesn’t even need the borrowed money for

compensation.”

“Who is she kidding? Her father is too sick to run a business!” Mrs. Boyer scoffed, but Carson shot her

a look, suggesting she keep quiet about it. All rights © NôvelDrama.Org.

“Mom, do you know Jolene’s dad?” I sighed.

“No, I don’t know. I heard from Jolene that he is very sick.” She forced a smile to hide the truth.

“Her family got rich a few years ago. Today, Robin told me that her father bought some fisheries and

received great returns. He bought his car with his father’s money – worth hundreds of thousands,” I

exclaimed.

“Hundreds of thousands? Is it really that expensive?” Mrs. Boyer was taken aback. Sitting next to us,

Carson forced a smile. “Honey, you must be hungry. Let’s eat!”

Jolene came home after dinner and Mrs. Boyer hurried over to her. “I heard about your brother’s

accident from Lily. He needs a lot of money. That is true?”

“Yes,”

“Why is he so careless? That’s a lot, and it’s not just a small amount,” Mrs. Boyer began to grumble.

“Mom, Jolene has been very busy during the day and hasn’t eaten. We’ll talk about it after she has

dinner.

“Lily, I don’t have an appetite.” Jolene looked pitiful.

“Even so, you need to have at least something. Health is important.” I dragged her into the dining room,

where Victoria served her food. I watched as Jolene ate, but she only swallowed a few mouthfuls

before putting her fork down. defeated.

“Jolene, eat more.”

“Lily, I really don’t have an appetite.”

“You’re worried about compensation, aren’t you? I spoke to Carson about this just now and asked him

to think of some ways he could help. I purposely said that out loud. Mrs. Boyer was listening in on the

conversation in the dining room and immediately cut me off: “How come Carson is rich? His business

orders were withdrawn and he lost a lot of money. Now, Eliza is preparing for her wedding. I don’t even

have her dowry ready!”

“Is Eliza getting married? Is she not in school yet?” I asked in amazement.
