Chapter 242 False Paternity Test
Chapter 242 False Paternity Test
Marie, who was seriously injured, was immediately sent to the hospital for rescue while Loraine and
Jackson were taken to the police station.
Irene soon learned what had happened. Deborah and Logan had been burned to death while Marie
had been stabbed and hospitalized. What awaited Marie was a lifetime of imprisonment. The
murderers who had killed her mother had all met their doom, but Irene's heart was not happy at all. If
she could, she would rather not seek revenge, as she only wanted her mother to be alive.
After being treated by a doctor in the hospital, Marie's condition stabilized. After a few days of recovery
in the hospital, she finally gained consciousness. Soon, Marie had Lily on her mind the whole time and
she wanted to know how Lily was.
Although Marie was missing Lily, Lily did not return the same feelings.
Deborah and Logan's death gave Lily a headache. After their death, Lily had nothing else left. Lily felt
annoyed when faced with the two crying babies. She had always been an unsympathetic person, and
she would not allow two children to drag her down. In the end, she placed them in an orphanage and
left.
The cruelty of such a mother was beyond the imagination of ordinary people. Fortunately, Edric had
already inquired about the whereabouts of the father of the children, and told him about it. After doing Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.
the paternity test, the father took the children away from the orphanage.
Although the two children would not be able to experience a mother's love, having a father to dote on
them was a blessing too.
After leaving the children in the orphanage, Lily's life did not get any better. She had initially planned to
seek refuge under Marie. However, after she learned that Marie had nothing left as well, she gave up
on Marie too. Marie no longer had any value to her so naturally, she would not go to visit Marie either.
Marie missed Lily a lot, but she did not expect for Lily to not be willing to visit her even once. She really
did not feel good about it. After staying in the hospital for a few days, she was much stronger, so Marie
tried to call Lily, but no one picked up.
Lily had no time to entertain Marie. Right then, she had no money, and it was difficult for her to do
anything. Lily was only thinking about how to get money and live a superior life like she had before.
In the past, she had no desire to work hard as she only knew how to indulge, so it had naturally been
impossible for her to find a job. After thinking about it, Lily decided to look for Steven. Although
Steven's assets had been confiscated, Lily did not believe that Steven did have some hidden money
that the officials were not able to find out about.
Steven originally needed to be monitored, but due to his health condition, he was allowed to have a
pretrial release in order to treat his sickness. Lily went to visit him under the identity of his daughter.
Lily told Steven about how bad her life had become and cried. Seeing that Lily was dressed in simple
clothes and she looked weak, Steven's heart softened. He did not know that Lily was deliberately lying
to him to gain his sympathy.
Steven was completely convinced that Lily was his daughter. When Deborah had returned with Lily, he
had done a paternity test, and it proved that Lily was indeed his daughter. Deborah's death was the
result of her own deeds, but Lily was innocent.
Steven even felt that Lily's character was not all that bad. If she had not been corrupted by Deborah in
the past, perhaps she would have been a kind child like Irene.
With that thought in mind, Steven tried to help Lily.
All of Steven's assets had been confiscated, and the only possession that he had left were the
traditional paintings that he had given to Edric from before. Those paintings were initially his gift to
Edric for marrying Irene, but now Steven thought that he should try to persuade Irene to pass the
paintings to Lily.
When Irene went to the hospital to visit Steven, he mentioned Lily and the traditional paintings. He told
Irene that he wanted Irene to pass the paintings to Lily, or at least give her some money so that she
could live comfortably.
Although Irene did not care much about money, Steven's request frustrated her. Those traditional
paintings had been originally Dave's and were shamelessly taken away by Steven. Thus, how dare he
suggest for her to pass them to Lily? Irene could not help but ask, "Speaking of the paintings, I have
something to ask you. You always said that those paintings have been passed down from your family.
Is that true?"
Steven answered awkwardly, "Of course they've been passed down from my family. Otherwise, how
would I have obtained such valuable things?"
Irene did not expect that Steven was still trying to quibble at that point. She had never mentioned it
before because she did not want to embarrass Steven, but at that moment, she no longer cared.
Steven's words and actions had hurt her. She sneered and said, "Those traditional paintings had
originally belonged to my uncle. What makes you think you have the right to handle them? Don't you
feel guilty that you have taken them for yourself?"
Steven's face turned red upon Irene's questioning. He begged in a low voice, "Irene, I really pity Lily.
She's only a girl, how can she survive without any money? Both of you are sisters. Could you please
help her for my sake?"
Irene was irritated by Steven's words, "Is Lily terminally ill? Or does she have a broken limb? Why can't
she find a job on her own since she's perfectly able to do so?"
"Lily has never endured any hardships since she was a child, and she was corrupted by Deborah too. I
think it will take a while for her to change," Steven explained.
Irene interrupted Steven without hesitation, "If she really wants to change, this is her chance now. I do
not believe that changes take time! People change because they're forced to. If Lily really wants to
change for the better, as long as she's willing to endure hardships, then she won't starve to death!"
"Edric and you have so much money. Just help her this once, please!" Steven begged Irene.
"No one in this world is born with a silver spoon in their mouth. Just because I have money doesn't
mean that Lily deserves my help! There are many more people out there who need help more than her!
I'd rather help the poor than let her spend my money," Irene sneered, "Moreover, I am also a poor
person. Edric's money has nothing to do with me!"
With that, they ended their conversations and Irene went home simmering with great anger. Upon
seeing Irene's upset expression, Kinsey asked her what had happened. Irene told Kinsey everything
that Steven had said. Then, it was Kinsey's turn to become furious, "Your father really is shameless. I
haven't seen him care much about you in the past either, but now he's willing to help Lily. Just ignore
him. It's not worth getting angry at people like him!"
Irene sighed, "I don't really care about the money. I believe that everyone deserves a chance to change
for the better. If Lily really wants to turn over a new leaf, I'll give her a chance. However, you've also
witnessed how shameless and vicious she can be. She is even willing to give up on her own children.
How vicious can she get?"
"Yes, it's strange that someone could sympathize with such a cold-hearted person. Your father must
have been blinded by her," Kinsey agreed.
Since those who had deserved ill upon them had already received their punishment, Margaret no
longer had to pretend to be ill to stay in the hospital anymore. After she was discharged, she went to
visit Irene. Margaret was determined to win Irene's heart back, so she set out to try her best.
When she arrived at Irene's, she brought soup that she had personally cooked and wanted Irene to
drink it. Throughout the years, Margaret was used to being the one who was doted upon by others.
However, now, she was willing to cook and serve Irene. Seeing that Margaret had personally cooked
some soup for her, Irene was touched.
"You're not in good health, so you shouldn't bother with such bothersome tasks. Uncle Thomas can
cook soup for me too," Irene said.
"It's my responsibility. When you were pregnant with Eden, I didn't take care of you and caused you to
suffer a lot. Now that I have a second chance, how can I give it up?" Margaret was all smiles. She
poured the soup out and handed it to Irene, "Drink it while it's hot. It's good for both you and the child!"
Irene did not refuse. She took the soup and had a few sips. The two of them then chatted merrily for a
while. Margaret suggested Irene to move to the Myers family so that she could take care of her.
Irene knew what her intention was, thus she replied, "I'm used to living here. If I suddenly move, I won't
get used to it. Let's talk about that after the baby is born."
"Irene, please give me a chance. Let me take care of you. I promise I'll love you like how a mother
would," Margaret pleaded.
The word 'mother' made Irene tear up. Although she had been married to Edric for so many years,
Irene knew that Margaret had never accepted her in her heart even though she called Margaret as her
mother during that time. However, when she heard the sincerity in Margaret's words, she knew
Margaret was not lying. She really wanted to make up for her mistakes in the past, but Irene had no
choice but to only thank her at that moment. Seeing that Irene refused to move back, Margaret left with
disappointment on her face.
In the evening, when Edric returned home, she told Edric about it, "Edric, you have to work hard. You
mustn't let Nathan win over Irene."
"Mom, don't worry. Nathan won't take my wife away. I'm confident that I can start anew with Irene,"
Edric said confidently. He had tried to please Eden, Irene and even Kinsey at all times. Although Irene's
attitude towards him remained the same, Eden's and Kinsey's attitude towards him had changed
greatly. Kinsey had begun to talk to him in a friendly tone, and Eden had begun to call him 'Dad' too.
With such a strong patron like Eden, he believed that he and Irene could start anew sooner or later.
"I think we'd better not be too confident!" Margaret told Edric.
"Don't worry, mom. Irene isn't such a cruel person!" Edric said.
Seeing that her son was very confident, Margaret had no choice but to put her heart at ease.
At the same time, Steven had Lily on his mind. Since he could not get Irene to help her, he was worried
that Lily would suffer. He hoped that he could convince Edric. When Edric went to visit him, Steven
repeated what he had told Irene to Edric. However, he received the same outcome. Edric was furious
with him. How could Steven treat Lily so differently? Initially, he did not want to aggravate Steven, but
seeing Steven's stubbornness, he could not keep it a secret anymore. So, he decided to tell Steven the
truth.
Deborah had been famed for messing with many men in Cat Alley in the past. So, there was a
possibility that Lily was not Steven's biological daughter. Initially, if Lily had sincerely decided to turn
over a new leaf, Edric would let go of the matter but since Lily was still shameless as before, he would
let Lily endure hardships and also let her be dead to Steven.
Edric took a strand of Steven's hair and sent it to do a paternity test along with Lily's hair. A few days
later, the test report came back, and Edric sent the report to Steven.
Reading the report that stated that Steven and Lily had no blood relations, Steven spat out a mouthful
of blood in frustration and fainted on the spot.
After being rescued by the doctor, Steven cried. He could not accept that he had helped raise another
person's child! However, he wondered why the paternity test from the past and present had different
results.
Edirc sneered and told him that the sample of the paternity test had been secretly exchanged, and
what he got was not the result of his and Lily's relations at all.
Steven understood immediately who had secretly changed the samples. He gritted his teeth in anger.
Later that evening, Lily went to visit Steven again. As she entered his ward, Steven immediately threw
a cup at her.
