Chapter 14 Matthew’s Sad Childhood
Chapter 14 Matthew’s Sad Childhood
Thinking of Blanca’s pretty face and the way Matthew looked at her, Louise wanted to pour a bottle of
sulfuric acid on her.
Carrie thought about it for a while and shook her head. “No, this only causes unnecessary troubles. If
someone finds out what happens, we’re done.”
“But they got married already. What should I do?” yelled Louise.
“They can get divorced. How do you think I got rid of that woman and got into the Grant family? I’ll talk
to your dad. Don’t rush anything, remember?”
Carrie patted her shoulders and walked across the hallway. She followed Matthew and Blanca and
headed to the backyard.
Matthew’s father, Wilbert, was in the backyard reading the company's quarterly report.
Matthew grabbed Blanca’s hands and came to his father, “Father, this is Blanca.”
Wilbert put aside the laptop and looked at her.
Even though he was in his fifties, he still looked young with a pair of sharp eyes. Blanca could tell
where Matthew’s pride and coldness came from. Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.
Facing such a gloomy father-in-law, Blanca felt a little uneasy. She felt like he could see right through
her soul.
He seemed to know what she was thinking about.
“Nice to see you, Sir.”
They made an agreement that she wouldn’t call him father until the wedding ceremony. They wanted
his parents to get used to it.
After all, they had never met this daughter-in-law who came up out of nowhere.
Wilbert nodded, “Matthew got married with you recklessly because of the pressure from the media. But
the Grant family won’t be so rash. Rest assured, Miss Roach, there will be a big ceremony.”
Blanca answered politely, “It’s okay. I’ll put myself at your disposal.”
Wilbert seemed to be quite satisfied with her attitude. He smiled at her and then put his poker face
back on. He said to Matthew, “Have you checked the Empire Group's ranking in Asia?”
“Yes, we’re in the second place.”
Just as Blanca was impressed by Matthew’s achievement, Wilbert snorted and said, “Seems like you’re
quite happy about it already.”
Matthew lowered his head. “No.”
Wilbert said sternly, “This is the third year you have taken over the company. It has been three years,
and the company is still falling behind. What a shame!”
Matthew was silent and Blanca didn’t dare to say anything.
“If you don't top the list next time, you’ll be fired and I'll redistribute the inheritance.”
Then, Wilbert got up and went to his room. He said to Mr. Johnson in the hallway, “Take good care of
the young Mrs. Grant.”
“Yes, sir.”
Blanca felt like she was on a roller coaster. She was so worried about Matthew before and felt that she
was the one that got yelled at. But now she heard how Wilbert called her and she was relieved. It
seemed that Wilbert was happy about her presence.
Blanca pulled Matthew’s arms and whispered, “Your dad is so strict.”
“He didn’t like me since I was young. Even if I got the best grades in school, he wouldn’t say a nice
word to me. I have got used to this,” Matthew paused and said, “Let’s go upstairs to see grandpa.”
Blanca felt sorry for him.
The grandma that adopted her was quite tolerant with her. She was constantly encouraged by her
grandma no matter how trivial her achievements were. When she thought Matthew’s childhood, Blanca
felt that her childhood wasn’t so bad.
She immediately forgave Matthew’s high-handed attitude which was probably the result of his terrible
childhood.
Blanca followed Matthew to the study on the second floor.
An old man with white hair, who was in the middle of painting, heard the sound and looked up at Blanca
and Matthew.
“Are you Blanca?”
The old man put down his brush and approached her, smiling. He took a good look at her and nodded,
“This girl seems quite sweet and nice.”
