Chapter 31
Parker
Parker
Rayne had given him plenty to think about since they left the little diner that afternoon. He could tell that she was pissed at him for being possessive back at the hotel. He hadn’t meant to be, but the moment the other males showed interest in her, something in him went on overdrive. He enjoyed picking out clothes for her, not because he wanted to control what she wore. She had a sexy body, and he loved seeing her wear those clothes that showed off her curves. Parker could see how that could appear possessive as he thought she belonged only to him.
Rayne had other lovers in the past, so had he. None had lasted for either of them. They always seemed to gravitate back to each other. It was ironic that searching for his lover that night had led him to Rayne. She was his best friend, business partner, and lover. He was coming to terms with the fact that he could not hold on to her forever. He was madly in love with her, but she had a mate, one that was determined to claim her.
He had never really given mates much thought until he met Rayne. Then one night during a thunderstorm he had gone to that hotel looking for Kyler. They had gotten into a fight after she mentioned wanting to add another lover to their group. That was during his more open sexual days, so he was trying the polyamorous lifestyle. It was going pretty well until Kylee met Rachel, who didn’t get along with the rest of the group. The others wanted Rachel out, but Kylee was obsessed with her.
Flashback
The night Parker niet Rayne
The night of the storm he got a call from Sam, one of their lovers, stating that she was worried about Kylee. Sam told him some concerning things about Rachel, so he decided to look for them. He tracked her to a little shit hole town in southern California, then drove from Montana to where her car was parked at a cheap hotel. He wasn’t eager to confront them. He was still sporting the black eye from the last time. For some reason he grabbed the knife he kept in the glove box of the car. He wouldn’t use it but wanted it, just in case Rachel tried to knife him like last time.
He asked about Kylee at the front desk and they gave him a room number, then he went to find her. Little did he know that the damn hotel clerk gives him the wrong room number. Parker took a deep breath when he reached the door, then he lifted his foot and kicked the door in. To his surprise, instead of finding Kyle and Rachel in the throes of passion, a different woman stood in the middle of the room wearing nothing but a bath towel. There she stood, wet and nearly naked, just staring at him with the same surprised look as his.
Her scent hit him, and surprise was the least of his concerns. The woman before him was a werewolf. Before he could fully register the situation he found himself in, she let out a low growl that had him stepping out of the room. He made a hasty exit, shook his head to clear the attraction he felt for a total stranger, then went to the room next door.
There Parker found what he had expected, Kylee and Rachel having sex. The second he walked in the room he knew things were different this time, beer bottles all over the room, but the drugs on the table got his attention fast. He drew a hard line with drugs of any kind, even prescription drugs were a no go for him. The needles on the table made him see red, Kylee was a recovering heroin addict, she had been clean for three years now. That was until she met Rachel, which explains why she was so unwilling to break things ofL
The fight was loud; they threw beer bottles all over the room, but in the end, he got Kylee out of there. Sam had followed him down when he found out where Kylee was, so between the two of them they got her in Sam’s car. They left Rachel hogtied on the bed thanks to Sam. On his way out, Parker called the front desk to ask for housekeeping to clean the room in an hour. Then he began making phone calls to get Kylee into a treatment facility. hoping once she was clean, things would go back to how they had been.
Parker knew that would not happen. The days of his polyamorous lifestyle were done. There had been plenty of drama, but never jealousy. They all shared surprisingly well. The way he figured it, after the drama of today, he should probably go solo or date women from the supernatural world. Humans were fun and all, but he wanted to be able to fully let out his animalistic side.
After securing a place for Kylee in a very upscale rehab center, he sent a text to Sam with the information. The growling from his stomach let him know that he hadn’t eaten since the night before, so he made his way to the little diner across the street. When he walked in and scanned the room, it shocked him when his eyes landed on the raven–haired vixen from the wrong room. Sadly, she was dressed this time.
Parker slid into the booth across from her with a grin, “Fancy running into you again.” All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
Her pale green eyes looked him over as she finished chewing her food, “Find what you were looking for?”
than I expected, it seems, I see you ditched the towel for clothes,” he signaled a waiter as he looked at the beauty in front of him.
“I did,” She replied as she studied him.
Parker
They spent the next several hours talking about anything and everything that came to their minds as they ate. Parker felt like he had known her forever. Something just clicked and felt right as they chatted over waffles. When she mentioned that she was heading north but would have to find a ride, he offered instantly. Everything he owned was in the back of his jeep. He had no one to go back to in Montana. Why not take a chance on a stranger? So, the next morning they took off in his jeep for an unknown destination. She had nowhere in mind but claimed that she would where she was headed when she found it.
End Flashback
