Chapter 625
Chapter 625
If he really lost his limb because of this, I'd owe him big time, and I didn't want any more entanglements with him. I could only try to persuade him. "It's not as bad as all that. A few more rounds of physical therapy, and I'll be as good as new," he said, his face so pale, his voice barely above a whisper.
Stubborn as ever, I didn't push. He looked at me, "You coming back has already made me feel better."
I was at a loss for words.
I got his point, but he quickly changed the subject, "Jefferson's been asking about you. He was about ready to call in a missing persons report."
I'd cut off all contact these past few days. I knew people were worried.
"Is he coming by today?" I asked, playing along.
"Not sure. I'll give him a call," Conrad said, reaching for the phone.
But he seemed to forget about his injured arm, and the sudden movement made him wince in pain.
I reached out, steadying his bandaged arm, "No need to call. I'm back now. We'll run into each other sooner or later."
Conrad didn't say anything, either from the pain or something else.
"Should I call the doctor?" I asked.
He shook his head gently, then licked his lips, "Could you get me a glass of water?"
I handed it to him, and after a couple of sips, the pain seemed to fade from his face.
"Dustin come to see you lately?" I brought up.
"A couple of times."
"I ran into him yesterday," I said, catching Conrad's attention. "At the diner," I added. "Hmm," was all Conrad said.
I chuckled, "Guess we're kinda fated, huh?"
"Felicia, if you've got something to say, just say it," Conrad sensed something was off. Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.
His injured arm was on my mind, "Did you know Dustin can draw?"
Conrad's already furrowed brow deepened, "Never seen it."
"He's really good. Like, his drawings could pass for photographs," I might have been laying it on thick.
But Dustin's work was impressive.
Conrad stayed silent, so I pressed
on, "What does it say about someone who fills their house with portraits of you, from when you were ten till now at twenty-four?
At that, he seemed to catch my drift, "Felicia, you..."
"I'm thinking about giving a new relationship a shot," I said, causing Conrad to jerk so hard he spilled his water.
He was a mix of shocked and agitated, "No, I don't agree."
His outburst left me unfazed, "He's loved me longer and deeper...”
"Felicia, are you doing this because Ernest left? You're hurt, I get it. But there are other ways to heal, not by rushing into something new,"
Conrad's voice trembled with each word.
"We've known each other as long as I've known you. It's not a rash decision," I murmured.
"No, absolutely not. Felicia, you can't be with Dustin," Conrad insisted.
I didn't bite, and Conrad seemed
lost, fumbling with the glass, "Felicia, are you blaming me for what happened with Ernest? You can yell at me blame me, anything. Just
don't punish yourself, dov
He was just blabbing now. Seeing him so off, it reminded me of when he hinted at the big brain behind everything. I figured he knew it was Dustin the whole time.
So, in a gentle yet firm tone, I asked, “You've known who was behind it all along, haven't you?"
