Chapter 19 Big Sister
Chapter 19 Big Sister
The engagement party reached its peak around 7:00 pm.
Outside, it was pouring heavily. Lacey walked toward the clubhouse barefoot while shabbily dressed.
She looked like a ghost.
"You must attend your sister's engagement party tomorrow. You are only free to leave once everyone
has taken pictures and witnessed your apology."
"If you dare disobey me, I'll make sure you're stuck with the Carter family forever."
"After Lillianna's engagement, you will return to the Carter family and undergo a transformation. It's an
honor you'll never get."
"You are not allowed to leave until tomorrow."
Lacey was grounded for one night for the sake of the Carter family and Lillianna.
In addition, her hair was dyed black to give the reporter the impression of turning over a new leaf.
Initially, she was okay with it.
After all, it was only one day. Once her mother's surgery, she would take her away from South City
forever.
However, things took a big turn.
She held a piece of paper tightly in her hand.
"Lacey, I had no idea you had gone through so much for me. I've always felt sorry for Lillianna as I
didn't show her enough motherly love. But putting you through this makes me even more
apprehensive. I raised you alone, and I couldn't stand to see you in any pain. Still, it was because of
me that you took the fall for your sister. How could Bailey be so heartless as to use me to threaten you
repeatedly? Lacey, I don't want to be treated for my illness anymore. I don't wish for you to be taken
advantage of. It is not my desire to have you blamed by others and for me to pull you down. I'm going
to go first. I wish you a happy life. Don't be aggravated by your father, and don't be threatened by him."
Her face was quite pale, and she was biting her lips.
Lacey found a letter under Maria's pillow.
And the letter completely shattered her heart.
Hatred overflowed her. She despised Bailey and Lillianna bitterly.
Since they didn't want her to have a good life, none of them deserved to have a good life either!
With determined eyes, she shoved the piece of paper into her mouth while staring at the high-end
club.
The swallowing process was agonizing, but nothing compared to the pain in her heart.
She then strode over as her face lit up with a standard smile.
News of her had circulated across South City in the past two days.
Hence, even the security guards stationed outside the clubhouse knew who she was.
Moreover, the Carters had brought Lacey over in the morning and announced to the public that she
would return to them and undergo a transformation.
The security guards later found her leaving the place alone.
Now that she was back, the guards assumed she had come to attend Lillianna's engagement party.
But why wasn't she wearing shoes, and why was her clothing wet?
For goodness sake, it was December, the coldest month of the year!
"Are you all right, Ms. Carter?" With an umbrella in hand, a security guard approached and asked.
Lacey grinned her lips in the shape of a crescent moon. "This is quite embarrassing. My clothes are at
my sister's, and I've lost my shoes. Let's not talk about it. My father will be furious if I don't get in soon."
The guard froze for a moment. Then, he asked, "Well, would you like an umbrella?"
Lacey ignored him and walked right on by.
Every single person in the clubhouse was a well-known South City figure.
Although the party appeared to be an engagement ceremony, it was also a business exchange.
Lillianna dressed elegantly that day and looked like a fairy. She was snuggling up to Sam.
Meanwhile, Sam drew the attention of countless debutantes, whose eyes dimmed as soon as they
noticed Lillianna.
"Bang!" Lacey pushed the door open with vigor.
Immediately, the frigid air from the outside rushed in.
Everyone couldn't help but turn around and stare back.
There she stood in the doorway, drenched and barefoot. Lacey looked a mess.
The crowd was startled, and it took a moment for them to react and mutter.
"What's going on?" Tilly Henderson's eyes grew irritated.
Alvaro Garrison shook his head at her, indicating they should wait and see.
Madeleine hastily shook Bailey's hand.
As soon as she touched him, Bailey snapped back to his senses.
He raced up to Lacey with an upset expression on his face and yelled, "What on earth are you
wearing? Hurry up and leave!"
Lacey looked at him with a faint smile. There was a hint of mockery in her eyes.
Bailey despised her gaze most of all. It seemed as if she was looking at an enemy. "Don't make a fool
of yourself here. Go back!" Bailey urged coldly. He had her wrist in his hand and was about to drag her
out.
However, she abruptly shook off his hand and walked toward the newly engaged couple.
Lillianna inexplicably frowned and had a bad feeling. Content property of NôvelDra/ma.Org.
The man next to her, on the other hand, curved his lips subconsciously.
Lacey approached them and gazed up at Lillianna with endless grief in her eyes.
"What are you wearing—"
"Sister, Lillianna." Lacey's lips quivered as she cut Lillianna off with a hoarse voice.
Lillianna grew nervous all of a sudden. Did she just call her sister?
That wasn't like her at all.
"Mom's dead—"
