Chapter 1142 Clay's Funny Speech
Chapter 1142 Clay's Funny Speech
Sydney looked at Clay with indifferent eyes and sneered, "Mr. McDaniel, you said you came to apologize to me, but your daughter didn’t come. You didn't bring any gifts. And you were so rude to me. Are you seriously apologizing to me? You look like you're here to threaten me." Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
Clay's assistant nodded subconsciously.
He had reminded Clay to bring gifts before they came. 'It looks insincere to go to apologize empty- handed.'
But Clay wouldn't listen to him. He was just an assistant. There was nothing he could do.
'You should have listened to me! Ha, it serves you right!'
"Should I bring you some gifts?" Clay wasn't happy about what Sydney had just said.
He narrowed his eyes at Sydney and said in a grim voice, "You think I'm not here to apologize to you but to threaten you?"
Sydney answered with a sneer, "You say you've come to apologize to me, but your words are full of threats. Honestly, Mr. McDaniel, I don't think you came here to apologize. If you're serious about apologizing to me, you should show your sincerity. You came to apologize to me because you know Julien cut your family off, right?"
Clay clenched his fists. He didn't say a word.
But the look on his face suggested Sydney was right.
Sydney folded her legs and leaned gracefully against the couch. "Guess I was right. It's been almost forty-eight hours since we clarified the rumor, but no one in your family has apologized to me. Today you know that Julien is breaking up with your family, so you've come to apologize to me.
You didn't mean to apologize to me, but you had no choice. When you talked to me, you sounded superior. You didn't bring any gifts. I don't think you came to apologize seriously. You are so proud."
Her tone was peaceful, as if she were just talking about the weather.
But the sarcasm in her words was sharp. She made Clay's dirty intentions so clear.
Clay's face looked awful. It looked really funny.
His hand gripped the arms of the couch every now and then.
He felt so humiliated. He really wanted to storm out, but he knew he hadn't achieved his goal yet.
He hated that Sydney had made his intentions so clear. He didn't think she should have made it so blunt even though she was right.
He believed Sydney should have accepted his apology and pretended she didn't know his intentions.
He was a senior to Sydney after all!
But Sydney was straight forward with his intentions, so he was pissed off.
Clay's body trembled in anger or annoyance.
A mocking look flashed across Sydney's eyes. She then said, "Mr. McDaniel, I'm an ordinary woman. Let's be realistic. If you really want to apologize to me, I suggest you bring your daughter here and she should apologize to me in person. Bring me some gifts that make me happy, bow your heads and apologize. Perhaps I will forgive your daughter. And I'll forgive you for not teaching your daughter well. Please go back. I will not accept your apology today. Come back and apologize to me after you consider it."
After that, Sydney picked up her coffee.
Clay was enraged and his eyes burned with anger. "Sydney, you're out of your mind. You want me to bring you gifts and have my daughter bow to you and apologize. You went too far!"
Sydney wrinkled her nose. "Did I?"
She laughed, "Mr. McDaniel, you're the one who wants to apologize to me and asks me for a favor, not me asking you to give me a favor. If you want to apologize to me, you should show some sincerity. How can you come alone, empty-handed and so arrogant? Did you expect me to forgive you immediately after you said you were sorry? You're not serious about apologizing. You're threatening me. I've never seen anyone apologize in this manner. If I make a mistake and have to apologize, I will call the person and apologize in the first place. If they don't accept my apology over the phone, I'll apologize in person and bring gifts. That's apologizing. Mr. McDaniel, what about you?"
Sydney lifted her chin slightly and gave a scornful look. "You didn't bring any gifts, but you want me to forgive you right away! How come you are so confident? Do you think I could possibly forgive you?"
Clay's eyes twinkled after he heard Sydney's accusations.
Sydney unfolded her legs, stood up, and took a step closer to Clay. "Mr. McDaniel, tell me what makes you so confident." She asked again.
Clay couldn't stand the humiliation. He took a deep breath then and stared at Sydney with reddened eyes. "I'll tell you why. Because my father was Julien's teacher and I'm older than you, you should forgive Erin and put in a good word for us with Julien."
"What?" Sydney froze. Then she was sure that was what Clay had said. She was once again amused. "Because you're older than me and your father was Julien's teacher."
"Exactly." Clay lifted his chin, an arrogant expression on his face.
Sydney's face clouded over. "You're older than me and your father was Julien's teacher. So what? What does that have to do with me? Why should I forgive you and put in a good word for you?"
"Your father, Harry, is about my age. You should call me uncle. Even if you don't call me uncle, you should respect me. I am twenty years older than you. I'm also your senior in business."
Clay was smug and puffed out his chest. "And, Julien was a student of my father's and he's been grateful to my father all his life. My family is literally Julien's family. If you want to marry Julien, you should please me. Otherwise, I have many ways to make Julien break up with you."
Clay sounded quite excited.
Sydney burst out laughing.
Seeing Sydney laughing, Clay had a sinking feeling in his heart.
"What are you laughing at?" He asked through gritted teeth.
Sydney stopped laughing. "That’s why you're so confident. Because you're older than me and more experienced in business, I should respect you? You have a point, but if I don't care about that, you mean nothing to me. We're not relatives, so what if you're older than me? How can you expect me to surrender to you? Are you crazy?"
