Chapter 4 Bitch
Chapter 4 Bitch
Johnny grabbed the envelope, walked a couple of steps and looked back at the desk, took the packet
of cigarettes, and walked out.
“What are you doing? Why are you taking my cigarettes?”
“I don’t have any more cigarettes. Don’t come after me or I will remove all the wheels on your car! You
smoked so many of my cigarettes. What’s the big deal that I’m taking a packet of yours?” Johnny
pointed at the manager before walking out of the office.
Johnny was fuming in anger when he stepped out of the office. Setting aside that woman who he was
wondering what the hell was wrong with her for going against him. He was first upset with this manager
who he tried his best to fawn on so that he could earn more money and increase his chances of being
promoted. For these, he had spent time, effort, and money to buy him cigarettes, meals and sucked up
to him when opportunities arose. When the manager was enjoying the attention and the gifts, he
treated Johnny like a pal but now that something happened, the manager immediately tossed Johnny
away. He clearly knew that this had nothing to do with Johnny and he wasn’t totally in the wrong but the
manager didn’t want to risk his job by speaking out for Johnny. Now Johnny was totally disillusioned.
Johnny was riding slowly on his old rickety bicycle which was bought from a scrapyard at a price of
eighty. He arrived at the bank he normally went, touched the envelope in his pocket and then walked
slowly towards the Automatic Teller Machine. He placed the bank card into the ATM and deposited the
money into his account. He then checked the balance in the account. In total, he had about nine
thousand two hundred remaining in his account.
Johnny smiled bitterly as he looked at the pittance he had in the bank account. He took out a small
booklet from his pocket, on which were some names and account numbers; next to the them were
some figures referring to the amount of money. Some of the figures were up to forty thousand while the
smaller ones were about seven to eight thousand. Several lines in the preceding had been crossed off
with a stroke. Johnny looked at the third line on a page and then transferred nine thousand to that
account; he then took out a pen to cross off those numbers. Thereafter, Johnny counted and then
sighed and muttered, “I still owe five hundred and twenty-three thousand!”
As he walked out of the bank, he was pondering to himself that it was with much difficulty that he found
a job, and now he was jobless again. He immediately became furious and turned his anger on
Jasmine. He was in this predicament all because she picked on him and complained against him. As
soon as he thought of this, he took out his phone to look for Jasmine’s number. But as a courier, he
called countless unfamiliar numbers every day. He lost track of which was Jasmine’s number.
“Damn! Forget it. I will take it out on you, you bitch!” Johnny cussed as he rode his bicycle in the
direction of Jasmine's house.
He was stopped by the security guards at the entrance of the villa complex. Johnny handed out some
cigarettes that he took from that manager to the guards. Johnny explained that he needed to pick up a
package from Jasmine’s house. One of the security guards recognized Johnny and Johnny was still
wearing the courier company’s uniform and so they let him in. © 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.
Johnny rode the bicycle towards Jasmine’s villa and opened the gate. He placed his bicycle in the
courtyard and walked to the door. He started to pound on the door as if he wanted to vent his anger on
the door.
“Coming, coming!” At this point, the family maid came to open the door. When Hannah saw that it was
Johnny, she asked curiously, “Why are you here again?”
“Where is she? Where’s that bitch?” Johnny said angrily.
“Hannah, who is it?” Jasmine's voice was heard behind the door.
“It’s me, your nemesis.” Johnny heard that Jasmine was at home and barged in. He could see that
Jasmine was eating at the dining table.
“Why are you here again?” Jasmine looked at Johnny as if she had expected it. She continued to eat
nonchalantly.
“Why am I here? You should know better why I am here! How could you be so vile and vicious? I’m just
a courier and I was here at three o’clock to deliver your packages. You asked me to meet you at six
o’clock. I had no choice but to turn around after completing my other deliveries. I had to travel over ten
kilometers just to deliver your packages. You nasty bitch had to lodge a complaint just because I’m late
for five minutes. Fine. I delivered your packages and you wanted me to open them and I did. You
wanted me to carry the packages in and I did that too. You wanted me to remove the boxes and again I
did. I literally served you as my boss. After all those you still had to lodge a complaint demanding for
my dismissal? What had I done to you to deserve this? Did I rob your virginity or killed your father?
Was it necessary to be so mean to me?” Johnny couldn’t care less and vented his anger at her.
Jasmine was furious after listening to Johnny but maintained her composure. What alarmed Johnny
was that Jasmine didn’t lose her temper but calmly said after Johnny ranted, “Are you done?”
“No. I’m here today especially to give you a good scolding,” Johnny yelled.
“Then go ahead, I’ll listen.” The lady said and continued to eat her dinner.
The lady’s indifferent attitude caused Johnny to be even more worked up. It was as if he was punching
into thin air and without any satisfaction of landing the punches. Johnny had been prepared to slug it
out with this woman but now it turned out like he was kicking up a big fuss.
“What attitude is this? What do you mean by 'go ahead'? Am I wrong for scolding you? I’m already nice
enough for not hitting you. Why are you doing all these to me? Give me a reason! Or else!” Johnny
demanded angrily.
“Or else what?” The woman calmly asked. She was very composed and totally didn’t take Johnny’s
threat to heart.
“Or else… or else…” Johnny thought for a while but couldn’t figure what he would do to her. Finally, he
blurted, “Or else I wouldn’t leave your house today.”
“What? That’s trespassing! Must I call the police?” The woman calmly said again and then instructed
Hannah, “Hannah, bring the first aid kit and dress up his wounds.”
“Ah?” Johnny was stunned by what the woman said. He looked at his blood-soaked arm and waved his
hand, “Don’t you pretend to be so kind. My arm is fine and doesn’t concern you. I just want you to
answer me how did I offend you that you had to ruin me?”
“Disinfect his wound and then apply some betadine before bandaging it.” The woman totally ignored
Johnny as she said to Hannah.
“Yes, Missus.” Hannah did as she was told and approached Johnny.
“No need, Hannah. My arm is fine. How would I dare to trouble you? I’ll do it myself.” Johnny said to
Hannah politely.
“It’s okay. Oh, look at your arm. What happened? How did it get so seriously injured?” Hannah asked
with concern when she saw the state of Johnny’s arm.
“Erm… I was careless and fell off my bike and scraped myself. It’s alright. Argh!” Johnny suddenly
yelled in pain as Hannah started to clean his wound with the antiseptic. Only those who had
experienced this understood the intensity of the initial sting when the antiseptic contacted the open
wound.
