Chapter 52
Chapter 52
Celeste glanced at Skyler subconsciously.
Skyler said nonchalantly. “Mrs. Meyer is asking you a question.”
Celeste twitched her mouth, “I’m not really good at it.”
Mrs. Meyer laughed, “That’s perfect then.”
And so, Celeste took Mrs. Garber’s place and played poker with the three women.
Mrs. Meyer asked, “Haven’t seen Kaylee all day, where did she go? She’s graduating this year, right?”
Mrs. Kelley chuckled, “Where else could Kaylee be? Probably went to the law firm to find your nephew
again. Why don’t you be the matchmaker, talk to your brother and sister-in-law, and get them a date?
Then you and Skyler might become family in the future.”
Mrs. Meyer replied, “My sister-in-law loves Kaylee, of course, she’d be happy to, but Curtis is hard to
say. He seems like a gentleman who’s easy-going, but he doesn’t like others controlling his decisions.
I’m afraid we can’t convince him.”
Mrs. Kelley said, “Feelings can be cultivated after marriage, wasn’t it the same for us back then?”
Skyler casually said, “Kaylee is still young, there’s no need to rush this.”
Celeste sat there, listening carefully.
The last time she played poker was in college. Her dorm mate had a birthday party, and they all went to
celebrate and do all the things she wanted to do for a day.
Her roommate took them to the rec room and played poker all night, that’s when she learned how to
play. This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.
After graduation, she married Liam and seldom went out for social events, let alone play poker. She
had no experience now and didn’t win a single round.
Mrs. Kelley won many rounds and said cheerfully. “How about we play again some other day?”
Mrs. Meyer chimed in, “With your luck today, why not play a little longer?”
Mrs. Kelley collected her winnings and laughed, “If we keep playing, I’m afraid you guys will get mad
and cry.”
Before Mrs. Meyer could respond, a deep male voice came from outside, “Seems like Mrs. Kelley won
quite a bit today, so confident.”
Celeste looked up to see Liam, dressed in a suit, striding towards them,
Mrs. Kelley also laughed, “I just made a little money, it’s not even enough to buy a piece of clothing.
Liam, what brings you here today? Long time no see.”
Liam put the bag on the table and said indifferently, “I just finished a client meeting and happened to
pass by. I heard Mrs. Kelley’s voice as soon as I entered, seems like she won a lot of money.”
Mrs. Meyer glanced at Celeste and suddenly laughed, “Yeah, Mrs. Kelley really had good luck today,
made a lot of money.”
Mrs. Kelley humbly said, “Actually, all three of us won, I just had slightly better luck.”
Liam asked, “So who lost?”
Everyone went silent for a moment, and they all looked at Celeste, who looked upset.
Celeste…
Liam asked, “How much did you lose?”
Celeste bit her lip and answered in a small voice, “Sixty thousand dollars…”
Liam raised his eyebrows, “Were you distracted?”
Celeste glared at him, thinking it was none of his business, why was he looking down on her!
Mrs. Meyer said, “Young people do lack some experience.”
Liam glanced at Celeste and said indifferently, “It’s not entirely about experience, she often loses at
board games too.”
He was implying she wasn’t smart enough.
Celeste was speechless.
ad a chance he’d seize the opportunity to mock her!
