My Mute Wife

Chapter 67 That’s the Quality of Professionalism?

As she was talking to Myles, the sound of her phone vibrating came from Lexie’s pocket.

Seeing the contents of the text message, Lexie looked stunned.

“What’s wrong?”

[Nothing, spam, don’t you have a legal aid to do? Go on.]

Myles glanced at his watch, “Okay, then, I’ll talk to Flora about it some other time, I think you need help if you really do that.”

After Myles left, Lexie re-scrolled her phone and frowned slightly at the contents of the text message.

The text message was from Alan.

“Stay put from work and I will pick you up.”

If it wasn’t for the text message memo name, it would be hard for her to believe that these were the words Alan would have said.

“I have a meeting this afternoon and will be leaving work later than usual, so I won’t bother you.”

Alan did not reply after she sent it.

There was still work to be done at hand, so Lexie had no time to think about it and tucked the phone into her pocket.

Afternoon.

For the meeting, Director Duncan came to their apartment to ask for help.

“Not enough logistical staff, someone from your section will be out later to help pour tea during the two days of meetings.”

As soon as they heard this, the members in the office lowered their heads and did not want to do this job.

They preferred to play with their cell phones during a meeting? Why go and serve tea?

“Let Lexie go,” said an unsuspecting voice, suddenly sounding from the corner.

Lexie was slightly stunned and looked up from the computer.

“We’re all exhausted from sorting out the files lately, Lexie has taken a lot of leave these past two months and rested enough, I think it’s fair to let her go, Lexie, how do you think?”

Without waiting for Lexie to speak, Director Duncan frowned and said in a bad mood, “Scarlet Gardner, you don’t want to work yourself, but you have an excuse to find work for others.”

The female voice in the corner weakened instantly, “I was just kidding.”

Director Duncan glanced at her, “Is this the time to joke? You come with me.”

Upon hearing this, Scarlet Gardner’s face instantly turned pale.

As soon as Director Duncan left, the people in the office looked at each other and talked.

“I told you that Lexie has a background and connections, just now Director Duncan was obvious protecting her.”

“Scarlet deserves it, trying to assign others to do it when she doesn’t do it herself.”

“Lexie took so many days off this month, and as she had just returned from her wedding leave for a few days, she took sick leave, I heard that her husband personally called to the curator.”

“Really?”

“Why would I lie to you?”

“…”

The noise of the murmurs, which fell on Lexie’s ears, made her frown, but her face remained calm and cool as she continued her work, marking overdue books on loan to the computer.

But that she did not look for trouble didn’t mean trouble would not come to her.

“Lexie,” Grace at the opposite desk tapped the partition with her pen, “You’ve been married for so long, and we’ve never seen what your husband looks like? What kind of person is he? When will you let us meet him?”

Thinking of Alan’s face, Lexie’s heart suddenly chilled.

[Just an ordinary man.]

“No way, last time you came back from your wedding leave, your husband specially sent his assistant to deliver the wedding candy, and this time on sick leave too, I heard that the curator gave you a month’s leave.”

Lexie didn’t know about this, and was surprised to hear it.

Alan personally called the curator and gave her a month of sick leave?

[He’s fussing about. I’m fine. I’m here at work already, aren’t I?

“But Lexie, we want to meet him.”NôvelDrama.Org holds text © rights.

Lexie was clearer than her colleagues did not really care about her married, but wanted to see her making a fool of herself.

She knew that if she refused, it was not going to over.

[He’ll pick me up from work later.]

“Really? That’s good,” there was a murmur of envy in the office.

“Your husband comes to pick you up!”

Lexie said lightly, [Then you can say hello to him.]

“No problem, we’ll just take a look from afar to satisfy our curiosity.”

Lexie always looked light, unable to see any sorrow or happiness.

As they were gossiping, a landline rang on Lexie’s desk.

“Hello? Records Management Section.”

“Lexie, come over to the conference room, we need help.”

The call was from the deputy director of the library.

“Just now Director Duncan just asked a person to go with him, still not enough manpower?”

“That’s for handing out mineral water to the guests at the back, and the leaders in the first row in front need someone to pour the tea, and I think you’re the best person to do it.”

Lexie faintly froze, but still agreed.

When Lexie entered the meeting with the hot water bottle, the meeting had already started for a while, and the curator only told her that the people who needed her to pour tea were in the first row.

In the conference hall, a bunch of men in suits, there was woman in blue suit stood out. She was high, with exquisite makeup, sitting in the first row against the aisle.

Director Duncan pointed out deliberately, “That one is the head of the company that made this charity donation.”

Because the man beside that woman was very tall, blocking her figure, and Lexie followed Director Duncan’s gaze but did not see her appearance.

“You just pour water in order.”

[Okay.]

Lexie immediately carried the teapot and walked over.

The meeting was suspended for the moment, and there was chaos inside the room, all discussing the new library expansion.

Lexie bent down and refilled all the tea in front of the people in the first row along the way, finally coming to the woman in the blue suit. As she lifted the teapot and was ready to pour the tea, a familiar female voice rang out, “What a coincidence, we’re meeting again.”

Lexie was stunned and jerked her head up.

The air froze for a moment.

It was Tina had that solemn look?

Why was she here?

At the thought that Alan had told her earlier about Victor’s death, Lexie actually felt some sympathy for her, and wondered if Tina knew the news now.

“Is it so much trouble to pour a cup of tea? Why don’t I do it myself?”

Tina’s voice pulled Lexie’s thoughts back.

[I will do it.]

Lexie poured the tea and her eyes signaled that she was leaving.

Tina, however, lifted the corners of her lips and took advantage of the fact that the people around her were discussing business without paying attention to them, directly pushed the cup of tea she had just poured in front of Lexie.

“Yikes!”

The papers on the table were instantly soaked with water, and the planning board leader stood up with a startled cry, “How did you pour the water?”

Lexie couldn’t believe that Tina could do such a thing in full view of everyone.

“You did that on purpose, didn’t you?” Tina looked at Lexie coldly, her eyes full of hatred, “This is the professional quality of the city library’s logisticians? Not as good as the workers in our frozen warehouse!”

Lexie’s face stiffened.
