My Mommy Is A CEO

Chapter 1159 No Way Out

“I’ve known this all along,” Sage said with a bitter smile. “When I infiltrated Vian Construction for Mr. Wood and got caught, if it weren’t for you, Leon, he wouldn’t have kept me around.”

Leon stayed silent. He knew that was true.

“He’s not someone worth following wholeheartedly,” Sage continued. “And we all know his true identity. There won’t be a good ending in the end, so I had an escape plan from the beginning.”

“You mean Arthur?” Leon’s mind cleared up instantly after hearing Sage’s words and he finally understood the relationship between him and Arthur.

“Exactly,” Sage admitted candidly and firmly said, “Mr. Davies saw through my identity when I was at Vian Construction, and since then I decided to work for him because unlike Mr. Wood, he can give me a way out if he says so!”

“Sage, I never thought you had such cunning…” It was one thing to hold resentment towards Casper but Leon found it equally distasteful that Sage had defected long ago while keeping it hidden,

“In that case… did you design my suspicion of Mr. Wood?”

Sage just wanted to defend himself when they heard a low magnetic voice coming from outside,

“Do you need Sage to design your suspicion? Who is Jacob? He is suspicious and ruthless enough to kill even the woman who accompanied him for nearly ten years. How could he care about you guys who are on the run? If you don’t understand this point clearly, then how could you secretly leave yourself an escape route?”

Leon shuddered all over. This voice was very familiar. It was Arthur! Turning his head towards the door, they saw Arthur standing there imposingly as ever with his cold expression still intact. His intimidating gaze was still capable of making people shiver. Most importantly though were his words which left no room for argument.

“Mr. Davies.” Straightening up slightly while bowing slightly towards Arthur, Sage showed their relationship needed no explanation.

Leon glared at Sage feeling mixed emotions inside while Arthur didn’t waste time talking nonsense with them only saying,

“I never took Jacob seriously. Keeping him around until now has been nothing more than consideration of Lucia’s feelings alone. This is why today I can let you go free or tell Jacob about everything yourselves, but if you’re wise enough, there’s another path available.”

Go back? Leon wasn’t stupid enough to do that as going back meant death, so he stayed silent instead of responding.

“As a witness like Sage, I can protect you until Jacob receives his punishment. However, I must make it clear that you also bear guilt and must receive punishment, albeit reduced. At least your lives will be spared,” Arthur explained to Leon.

Leon’s dissatisfaction was evident as he asked if they still had to face punishment for their own mistakes.

“Do you think I am begging you?” Arthur’s tone turned cold. He knew Leon well – impulsive, greedy and selfish – no wonder he got along with Casper so well. Arthur looked down on Leon’s attitude of discontent, “If you’re not satisfied, there is no need for you to stay here.”

Leon turned pale at the thought of being kicked out by Arthur. Sage quickly intervened, “Mr. Davies, Leon just needs some time to accept this decision. Let me talk to him.”

“Sage,” Arthur addressed her sternly, “you should know that I only need one witness like you. There is no need for me to keep Leon and his group.”

“Please Mr. Davies,” Sage pleaded desperately when he saw how unhappy Arthur was with them all, “We have come a long way and we only ask for our lives now… Leon? Say something!”

Although he felt indignant inside himself at the situation, knowing that he had no bargaining power with someone like Arthur who could easily take away their lives in an instant made him grit his teeth and agree reluctantly, “Alright! We promise we’ll be witnesses!” The other brothers followed suit since nothing was more important than saving their own lives.

“Then stay here until I say otherwise,” said Arthur curtly before turning around and leaving without another word.

Sage breathed a sigh of relief after seeing him leave before telling the others, “You guys just stay put here until it’s safe enough for you all to leave together later on.”

“You’re going back to him?” asked a worried Leon when he mentioned having unfinished business with Arthur.

“I have no choice. Besides as long as we all survive in the end, then everything else doesn’t matter anymore,” replied Sage reassuringly before adding, “He might vent his anger on me but it won’t be anything new… I’ll see you guys soon enough.” With those words, he left them behind while they waited anxiously for his return later on.

Leon let out a long sigh. Although this wasn’t the path he wanted to take, he had to accept reality. As they left Leon’s room, Sage caught up with Arthur and said, “Mr. Davies, thank you.”

“Thank me for what?” Arthur asked innocently.

“If you hadn’t said those words earlier, I don’t think Leon would have easily forgiven me,” Sage understood and was grateful.

“You’re overthinking it. I didn’t mean anything by it,” Arthur glanced at Sage sideways and didn’t accept his thanks.

Sage smiled and lowered his head. Arthur may not admit it, but he knew in his heart what had happened.

After settling Leon down, Sage’s heavy burden was lifted off his shoulders. Now he had to figure out how to explain things to Casper. He pretended to search around the suburbs before returning to StandHill at dusk to report on the situation.

“Mr. Wood… Leon and the others disappeared like they never existed… we can’t find them…” Sage stammered with his head down.

“Worthless!” The next second, a thick folder accompanied by Casper’s furious scolding hit Sage hard in the body. Although it hurt him badly, he dared not dodge or move away from it.

“It’s only been one night. Do you think they grew wings and flew away?!” Casper was livid with anger.

Sage hung his head low while enduring Casper’s wrath as he whispered softly, “We’ve mobilized everyone we could but still couldn’t find them all… Mr. Wood when you mentioned Leon earlier today, I suspected that maybe he already sensed your suspicion towards him so took this opportunity of failure as an excuse for escape?”

Sage’s words reminded Casper that they could explain why Leon went missing after failing their mission. Moreover, since Leon was smart enough and also closest person of him, perhaps he unknowingly leaked out some clues which made him realize something?

But no matter how much Casper guessed now, there was no way of confirming any of these theories anymore…Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.
