Chapter 26 Leading ‘Wolf’ into the House
Chapter 26 Leading ‘Wolf’ into the House
In the bedroom, facing Alan's inquiry, Edith was suddenly lacking of confidence, "Of course ...... of
course I've seen it, that's something that's passed down in our family."
Alan had read countless people, and when he saw Edith stammering, he knew she didn't know the
truth.
Peter, the old fox, was even defending his own daughter.
However, since he had sent Edith to study medicine, he was bound to prepare for the future inheritance
of Mitchell Pharmaceutical Group.
So Alan didn't say anything about it.
Edith changed the topic, "Alan, actually I'm not very interested in the management of my family's
business, and I'm studying medicine, so I still want to depend on my own in the future, can you do me a
favor?"
Alan's gaze lifted from the book, "What kind of favor?"
"I want to work in a hospital."
"Which hospital?"
"It's Renhe Hospital," Edith carefully surveyed Alan, afraid of revealing her purpose.
A deep meaning surfaced in Alan's eyes.
"Sure." A cold voice rang through the room.
"......"
At lunch, Edith was diligent in helping Alan with food.
Alan, however, just said thanks and turned to his cup to drink water, not moving his chopsticks.
Lexie shook her head silently in her heart.
Having been in the Howard family for quite a few days, she knew Alan's eating habits; he wouldn't eat
the food that others gave him, and he wouldn't have a single bite without communal chopsticks on the This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.
table.
Edith was making a mistake flattering Alan.
However, Alan was so close to Edith, why he made an exception for her? Lexie thought darkly.
Alan glanced at Lexie's absent-mindedness through the corner of his eyes and placed his bowl directly
in front of her, "The Mitchell family's cook is good, Lexie, eat more."
Hearing Alan's inexplicably concerned voice, Lexie turned back to her senses and met the scowl of
Edith across the room.
If eyes could kill, then Edith's gaze had already killed her.
Lexie couldn't help but shiver, and she seriously suspected that Alan was deliberately trying to stir up
Edith's discontent with her.
[I can't eat this much] She gestured and pushed the bowl back, [You have it]
The bowl stopped halfway between the two men when they pushed it.
Against Alan's compelling gaze, Lexie's hands felt like they were filled with lead and couldn't push.
After a while, she reluctantly tugged at the corner of her mouth and pulled the bowl back to herself,
[Thank you]
During lunch, Peter asked about some business dealings. Alan seemed to be in a good mood and
actually revealed some inside information about the project.
"Director Gardner of SEC said that?" Peter's eyes lit up.
Alan was calm and cool as always, "It was my assistant who happened to overhear what Director
Gardner said when we were negotiating the cooperation last week, but the financing risk is still very
high, and I heard that the Lane Group and a few others are still on the sidelines."
"The financing project that the Lane Group is optimistic about is definitely not bad," Peter smiled
joyfully, "Sophia, open a bottle of wine, it is a good day."
While looking at Peter, Lexie secretly was worried about him.
Although she did not know much about the business world, Alan’s words almost had no difference with
the fortune telling. He used Director Gardner and the Lane Group as a front, Peter would believe that
the project financing was extremely profitable.
In accordance with the Mitchell Group's great loss, if Peter really invested in new projects, that debt
rose to the peak, if he was careless, Mitchell Group would go bankrupt.
Lexie thought a lot, but didn't say a word.
It was a meal that was on pins and needles.
Alan had to go to a meeting at the company in the afternoon, so he didn't stay much longer, and took
Lexie with him when he left.
The Mitchell family came out to see their guests off.
"Alan, come often in the future," Edith pulled Alan to pamper him, her voice so whiny that Lexie got
goose bumps.
"It's late, we gotta go, Mr. Alan, you still have to go home and change first." The driver on the side
coughed and whispered to remind the two of them of the time.
Alan nodded slightly and glanced at Lexie, who was standing to the side, "Get in the car."
It was only then that Lexie returned to her senses and nodded her head.
Alan frowned impatiently, in his eyes, Lexie was like a wooden person, her eyes were lax and listless
all day, and this moment, she was watching him and Edith talking, not reacting.
Before getting into the car, she passed by Edith, and Edith said in a low voice, "Alan did not company
you back to home, but he was here to see me. You've seen how much Alan cares about me, I'm afraid
you haven't received any gifts from Alan until now, right? You are no different from a servant in his
eyes."
Lexie was embarrassed, but still forced herself to make a face of indifference and gestured [You still
want to have this position as a servant]
She was good-tempered, but not contrary.
With those words, she turned and got into her car.
As the car faded away, Edith stomped her feet as she watched, rushing to Peter to spill her guts, "Dad,
look at her, she is arrogant now. If we really let her continue to stay in the Howard family, she'll bully us
in the future!"
Peter frowned, "Okay, stop it, did you tell Alan?"
Edith froze for a moment before responding, "Yes."
"What did he say?"
"Of course he said yes." Mentioning this, Edith was smug, "Alan let me work at Renhe Hospital
whenever I want, so I can see Kevin every day then."
"That's good," Peter nodded thoughtfully, "From now on, you'll have less contact with Alan, and put
more of your energy on Kevin."
Although Edith was not reluctant in her heart, she still nodded her head on the surface, and with a good
girl's look, she took Peter's arm and went into the house.
The car pulled out of the cottage area and drove slowly down the street, the rear view mirror reflecting
Lexie and Alan.
"What did Peter give you?"
The man's deep, cold voice rang out from the carriage, not a trace of emotion audible.
Lexie had been prepared and said, [Nothing, just told me to remind Edith not to get too close to you for
fear of causing gossip.]
"Is that so?"
Her jaw was pinched, and a sharp pain struck, causing Lexie to draw a cold breath.
He didn't believe it?
Alan, however, snorted coldly and increased the force on his hand as if he was pinching a small bird
with ease and recklessness, "Is Peter afraid of causing gossip? Or is he afraid that his precious
daughter will lead the ‘wolf’ into his house?"
Lexie was stunned, and the movements of slapping Alan's arm were much slower.
Was this a disguised admission that he did have other plans for the Mitchell family?
Was it really about the prescription?
