Chapter 879
During lunch, Vera replied, “Some things are better said in person. Since you’ll be busy for the next few days, I’ll ask you out some other time.”
Skylar replied, “Alright.”
Vera sat in a café with a laptop in front of her. She was checking through her inbox. In the past week, she had hired a private investigator to investigate what had happened to Skylar and the Williamses.
Now, some of the Williamses were dead, and others were missing. Some were even in jail. Samuel was the only one they could find. He returned to his village and began selling burritos.
The reason why the Williamses fell so fast was because the Martin Group worked behind the scenes to cause their downfall. Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.
Although they didn’t do so publicly, as a member of the Ruell family, she could see through the mist of what was going on.
As the true daughter of the Williams family, she was truly merciless to her biological parents. She watched with hands folded as the Williamses fell to where they were now.
Thus, Skylar was a more cruel person than she was. In addition, parental love didn’t seem to matter to her. Even though her biological parents hadn’t raised her, and they treated their adopted daughter better than they did her, she shouldn’t have watched on from the sidelines. One could even say she’d exacerbated the issue.
The Martin Group added oil to the fire, thus ensuring the Williamses would never come back. Joe should’ve been Skylar’s worst enemy. Yet, she married him? Why would she do that?
Also, wasn’t Joe scared that Skylar would betray him?
Vera narrowed her eyes and continued reading through the information about Skylar in her inbox.
When Skylar returned to the hospital, Simona and Wendy had gotten much better.
“Skylar, I’m fine. You must be exhausted. You stayed over to keep me company in the hospital last night and had to head to work the next morning. Go back and rest. I’m alright.” Simona didn’t want Skylar to worry about her too much.
A day had passed, and she’d calmed down. When Simona saw Wendy go against the world alone, she felt the need to stay strong even more. This couldn’t take her down. She would face those devils with Wendy! As Simona and Skylar spoke, Wendy watched on, feeling slightly envious.
Aiken had stayed at the hospital for the whole day. Whenever the police discovered new leads, they would call Aiken to update him. Wendy knew that she would make the perpetrators pay as long as she didn’t give up.
However, she'd never received such love and concern from her family.
Although she was envious, Wendy wasn't jealous.
On the way to the hospital, Skylar had bought two bowls of chicken soup and some cakes.
"I bought this while I was coming here. Try it and see whether you girls like it. If you do, I'll buy them tomorrow."
"Do I get some too?" Wendy was surprised. She eyed Skylar hesitantly.
Skylar nodded with a smile and said, "Of course. Try them out."
Tears sparkled in Wendy's eyes as she thanked Skylar. Then, she sipped at her soup slowly.
As Simona ate, she told Skylar about Wendy's plans. She intended to cut ties with her parents. She'd submitted the evidence of her abuse to the police.
"They did raise me after all. When they grow old and need my care down the road, I'll pay them a substantive amount. However, I won't have anything to do with them. I've grown up now. I can take ca of myself. I'll take the college entrance exams and get into my dream college."
In the beginning, she didn't like telling others about her plans. However, Skylar seemed to exude a presence that made Wendy feel like she could trust Skylar. She wanted to talk about it.
Wendy would work during the summer holidays. When she entered college, she would pay for it hersel and get loans if possible. Wendy would persevere. Simona added, "I invited her to stay at mine, but she turned me down."
"Simona, I don't want to trouble anyone. I can survive on my own," Wendy told Simona seriously.
Just as Skylar was about to say something, Aiken walked in.
"Have you had dinner? We could have dinner at the canteen, if that's alright with you."
