Lost and Found: Return of My Mysterious Fiancee

Chapter 789: Max Bailey

These arrangements had long been approved from above, so the procedures for Tina and Jared were surprisingly smooth. By the time they finished lunch, it took less than half an hour to wrap up everything, collecting all the necessary documents issued by the authorities.

The first thing the young couple did was drive to K Prison.

After the restructuring of X Bureau, several detainees held in its underground facilities had been transferred here, including national traitors and certain high-profile criminal suspects. The security was so tight that even a fly wouldn't survive long, as laser guns hidden in every corner were ready to strike anything that moved.

It was Tina's first time visiting this prison, and she glanced around discreetly, taking in the details. The glowing green pathway beneath her feet gave her the feeling of walking aboard a high-tech spaceship straight out of a science fiction movie.

"From now on, will the people we capture also be locked up here?" Tina asked suddenly, turning to Jared.

The man nodded without hesitation. "X Bureau has too many traitors, which has made the higher-ups cautious. From now on, any detainees captured by any special department will be sent here. Without authorization from above, no one is allowed to remove them."

The "higher-ups" referred to the leader overseeing all special departments.

A glimmer of light flashed in Tina's eyes.

As they spoke, the two were led to Max Bailey's cell.

Once an influential figure in an international criminal organization, Max was now held in solitary confinement in a sleek, silver-white room. Dressed in a gray prison uniform and wearing black electronic restraints, he barely glanced at them when they arrived. After a brief look, he turned away and focused on the intricate craftwork in his hands.

Jared narrowed his eyes, gesturing for the guards to leave.

Tina, separated by the observation window, pulled over a chair and sat down. "Your life here is much better than your brother's. He spent over a decade farming in the countryside."

At her words, Max's hand trembled, and the embroidery needle pricked his finger.

Drops of crimson blood fell, but he seemed oblivious. The numb expression on his face finally shifted as he asked, "You've seen Kael?"

Tina nodded as if it were a matter of course. "I have. He's in my custody now."

"Impossible!"

Max's voice rose sharply as he grabbed a piece of paper to wipe the blood from his hands. His tone was firm. "Victor promised me he would take care of Kael. You, just a little girl, think you could take Kael away from him? Don't brag so much- you might sprain your tongue!"

Jared sat down beside Tina. "By 'taking care,' you mean exiling him to a rural village with Victor's most despised brother?"

Jared's emotionless words made Max freeze mid-motion.

Tina smiled faintly, her tone light but cutting. "Oh, and he even calls Ozan Bailey 'Dad.' I'm guessing he doesn't even know you exist as his brother."

"Max Bailey, did you know that the people guarding your brother in that little village couldn't even hold their own against the weakest of my subordinates?"

Like a dull knife cutting flesh, the slow pain was enough to drive anyone mad.

Max Bailey had no one he truly cared for-except his younger brother. As Tina's words hung in the air, he threw down what he was holding and gripped the cell bars. "What do you want?!"

"Years ago," Tina began, speaking of the recent findings from her investigation, "you were a joint shareholder of the Dyer family and the Gill family. You collaborated with Luke Gill to steal the Dyer family's pharmaceutical formulas and conspired with Ozan Bailey to destroy the Dyer family completely. I want you to testify in court and expose the crimes Luke Gill committed, so the Dyer family can finally clear their name." Max's pupils contracted slightly, and he instinctively responded, "Impossible. Don't even think about it!"

Even now, Max Bailey clung to his refusal to betray Victor.

Tina tilted her head, her beautiful eyes meeting Jared's calm gaze.

Without a word, Jared understood the surprise in her heart. He smiled faintly, tousled his wife's hair, and pulled a small radio from his sleeve. His cold voice echoed in the room. "Bring it in." Moments later, a man in a black uniform entered, holding a tray.

On the tray sat a small medicine bottle, its surface adorned with elegant, intricate patterns, as though it had been custom-made.novelbin

Tina only needed a glance to recognize it-her mother had once been particularly fond of using these bottles to store her most prized creations.

One batch was for a drug that induced a state of feigned death.

However, as far as Tina remembered, her mentor had told her the entire batch had been sold off years ago and now belonged to the Bailey family. So where had Jared gotten this bottle?

Noticing the question in her eyes, Jared handed her the bottle. "Last night, I had Nathan interrogate Kael Bailey. The drug in his system isn't the same as the one your mother made."

"The original drug was purchased by the Bailey family, who then used it to develop something new."

Jared gently intertwined his fingers with Tina's, his gaze warm. "This new drug has a similar effect to the original, but it's far more harmful to the body. Without taking the antidote regularly, Kael Bailey would die in no time, his body unable to withstand the strain."

After finishing his explanation, Jared turned to Max Bailey, his icy stare a stark contrast to the tenderness he showed Tina. "Max Bailey, even knowing this, will you still sacrifice yourself for Victor?"

A flicker of hesitation crossed Max Bailey's eyes. He didn't want to, but...

The gray-haired man gritted his teeth, his face set with determination. "The Dyer family brought their downfall upon themselves! You'll never get me to testify with lies and fabrications!" "The organization has already fallen apart. I'm just a member of the Bailey family now, and I will never betray them!"

"Your family?"

Tina laughed mockingly. "Victor has never considered you part of the family. Everyone from your branch is either dead or crippled-except for you and your brother."

Holding a tablet in her hand, Tina swiped a few times before displaying information sent to her by Ella Bailey.

"Your parents. Your wife." With a flick of her wrist, the screen showed images to Max Bailey. "All of them were dumped in the wilderness. And who did this? Luke Gill personally led the charge." Feeling stiff from sitting too long, Tina stood and stretched.

"Max Bailey, I didn't come here to negotiate. Whether you agree or not, as a high-priority detainee, you'll have to testify in court. I have plenty of ways to make you tell the truth. I'm just giving you a chance to seek revenge." "Revenge?"

Max's grip on the bars tightened, the air around him rippling faintly.

The steel bars of the cell bent slightly under the force of his grip, but the electronic restraints on his wrists emitted a sharp, piercing alarm.
