Chapter 85
Chapter 85
Don’t confuse your guilt with love. Justin squeezed his eyes shut. Was he just feeling guilty? Was the
pain he felt in the past five years just guilt? He felt a tear drop from his eyes. Fuck her for confusing
him!
He rushed out from his room but no longer saw her.
“Follow her!” he barked to his secretary, who immediately sprung to action.
Serene heaved a sigh of relief when she entered a familiar restaurant and sat on a chair. A server
approached her as soon as she settled in. She gave her order from the top of her head while her eyes
scanned the place. She caught sight of Joseph, Justin’s secretary from her peripheral vision.
“Can I also have the bill?” She gave a polite smile to the server and continued to search the restaurant
for a familiar face. When she finally found the person she was looking for, she gave her a wink. She
and Susie locked eyes and exchanged a knowing look with each other.
Susie approached her table and gave her the bill. She checked it and wrote on the receipt “I’m being
followed”. She took her card and went back to the till. After a while, Susie approached her again and
returned her card. She said her thanks and gave her a copy of the receipt before turning around and
going back to the cash register.
Serene casually looked at the piece of paper and read the instructions written on it. When she finished
reading, she stuffed it in her pocket and ate in peace. After finishing eating, she stood up and went to
the washroom.
Shortly after she went in, a server also entered. A few minutes after, Serene got out of the washroom in Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
a server’s uniform and went into the kitchen. Outside the kitchen, an Ellis Inc delivery truck waited for
her.
Only when she was inside the truck did she release the breath she was holding. The driver carried on
with their usual delivery stops. She got off when they delivered to a restaurant close to the hotel she
stayed. From there, she waited for a car to pick her up again from the kitchen exit to bring her back to
the hotel.
Meanwhile, Joseph and the men he brought with him, hung around the restaurant for almost an hour
from the time Serene went to the washroom. One of them took the courage to enter it, only to find out
that she’s no longer inside.
Justin’s men panicked and scrambled upon learning of her disappearance. They paced all over the
restaurant looking for her. They have looked at every corner of the establishment but found nothing.
The manager even offered to have them look at the surveillance videos. They screened each second of
the video. All they saw was Serene coming in but never going out. With all the blunders that happened
recently, they braced themselves for the worst.
Justin threw a fit when he found out that she slipped from them again, and this time his men were in the
same place and watched her, but she vanished under their noses. His room looked like a tornado
passed by when he calmed down.
How did she get out of that place undetected? His head throbbed thinking about the possibilities of how
she escaped them yet again.
Serene only felt secured when her feet stepped in the suite and she saw her children’s smiling faces.
They erased all the worries she had and all the pain she felt. She hugged them more tightly and
showered more kisses on their faces. It felt like she would not see them again when she stormed into
Justin’s office.
She watched her children sleep beside her until the early hours of the morning. Scared that they might
suddenly disappear from her. They are all she had, her life source. She did not want to even imagine
the scenario where she lost them, she’s not brave enough for that.
Like her, Justin was still awake that early morning. Remembering their recent encounter. First, he hated
her for saying she wished her children were Bryan’s. It cut him deeply. How could she say that? He
knew he hurt her then and had been the biggest idiot when he kicked her out without even listening to
her explanation. He got too caught up with his jealousy and ego; he neglected her.
He didn’t need a reminder of how pitiful she’s been that night, and his actions were the reason she
almost had a miscarriage, because he spent every day of the last five years punishing himself for that.
He wanted so much for his harsh kisses to erase the traces of those painful words from her mouth. The
twins were his, no one else’s. And she’s not allowed to even think of bearing another man’s child!
But she hated her more when she made him doubt himself. What he felt had always been black and
white. He did not confuse one over the other. But she had to say that confuse-guilt-for-love shit. Fuck
her for royally messing him up.
He doubted himself for a moment, and that flicker of doubt cost him to have her slip between his fingers
again. She already entered his domain, he already held her, but he lost her again.
He’ll get her back soon. And when he does, he’s going to tie her to his hip. She could hate him and kick
him all she wants, but he’s never giving her another chance to get away from him. The pain he felt in
his heart had been far too long and too deep.
