Chapter 62: Watching Vivian 24 Hours a Day
Chapter 62: Watching Vivian 24 Hours a Day
Had she not died in the hands of those two people that day, she still wouldn't have the will to continue
living on anymore. All rights © NôvelDrama.Org.
Even more so since the world had been so cold and cruel to her all along.
"You've got a whole life ahead of you. What do you mean by not being able to pay me back?" Joker
asked. "Don't worry. I'll make sure I get back what you owe me that day." Joker then hopped onto his
motorcycle. "Come on. We still need to eat."
Vivian obediently hopped up behind him and said cautiously, "Well, you can pick another expensive
place for lunch."
"Pfft, are you really trying to be my sugar mommy?" Joker asked with a laugh.
Vivia blushed when he started laughing out loud. "No, I just wanted to thank you properly."
"Forget the expensive restaurants. It's easy to lose your appetite there. I'd rather get something by the
roadside to eat. It's a lot less uncomfortable that way."
Joker then wrapped Vivian's arms around his waist before revving off.
Vivian couldn't help smiling to herself as she stared at his back throughout the ride.
What ulterior motives would someone who gave up on a luxurious restaurant for a roadside stall have
for getting close to her?
What's more, she wasn't even worth anyone getting close to for that very reason.
As the wind whizzed by their ears, Vivian couldn't stop herself from thanking him out loud again. "Joker,
thank you so much!"
"What did you say?" Joker couldn't hear her clearly because of how fast he was going.
Vivian just continued smiling to herself. "Really, thank you so much. If we ever meet again in the future,
I really hope that I'll be able to pay you back for everything you did."
There weren't many people around, and Vivian's voice wasn't low or hoarse either.
Even if Joker didn't manage to catch everything she said, he still managed to get the gist of it.
He frowned softly to himself.
Why did Vivian's words sound rather weird to him?
Why did he feel that Vivian was prepared to never see him again for the rest of her life?
"Send two people here to watch Vivian 24 hours a day. Let me know at once if there's anything up." As
soon as Joker sent Vivian home, he dialled the number on his phone again.
He might just be looking too much into it, but he didn't want any 'what ifs' to happen if he could help it.
He wanted to be a hundred per cent sure.
There was no way he was going to let Vivian out of his grasp, especially since he'd found out that she
was in that kind of relationship with Chow.
...
There was a hint of darkness in his eyes. He would never let any accidents happen to his picture-
perfect plans.
Never, ever.
The sun gradually set in the sky. Darkness fell onto everything in sight.
However, as one of the most famous and prestigious hospitals in Holy City, Gordan Hospital was still
hustling and bustling busily as ever.
"Dr. Gordon, have you had dinner yet? I heard that there's a new Japanese restaurant nearby with
great reviews. Do you want to go there with me?"
The invitation came from a polite, well-mannered nurse. It was most probably her first time being so
assertive.
She was already a blushing mess by the time her words left her mouth.
Although it was just her first time making the first move, for someone like Raylan Gordan, it wasn't the
first time he'd received invitations like this.
He stuck the pen into the breast pocket of his doctor's coat and smiled at the nurse as he held on to the
clipboard. "You're making me crave Japanese food now."
The nurse's eyes lit up immediately when she heard that. "Then, shall we—"
"But, I'm sorry to say that I've got an appointment for tonight. Maybe next time," he said as he patted
her shoulders and handed her the clipboard. "Can you please put this back for me? I'm in a hurry to
leave."
The little nurse was so excited to have such close contact with her idol that she forgot to be
disappointed by his rejection. She hugged the clipboard and nodded immediately. "Alright, Dr. Gordon!
Don't worry, I'll put it back properly for you. You can go off now!"
"Thank you." Raylan then shrugged off his white coat and placed it into the nurse's hands with a smile
before heading outside.
Only the little nurse was left behind, hugging his white doctor's coat as her eyes sparkled in excitement
and infatuation.
Raylan hadn't even walked out of the hospital when he caught sight of two familiar figures.
Chow was holding on to Celine, who looked rather weak and frail. They had just entered the hospital.
For some reason, Raylan couldn't help feeling thoroughly disgusted when he saw Celine.
Although Raylan never thought much about relationships, he was still a true gentleman.
If he saw a woman looking so weak and uncomfortable, he would never hesitate to lend a helping
hand.
However, he just couldn't find it in himself to want to help this woman.
Nonetheless, he had been wanting to look for the man that was right beside this woman.
Chow caught sight of Raylan as well. His footsteps slowed down.
Just then, a gaggle of doctors and nurses dressed in white passed by Raylan as they rushed up to
Chow and Celine. "Mr. Howard, is Miss Celine feeling unwell again?"
"We'll send her in for an examination right away!"
"Don't you worry!"
It seemed like they had called ahead before coming in.
Chow was his usual expressionless self, but he was particularly gentle when speaking with Celine. "Go
with them for the check-up first. I'll look for you later."
Celine, who had been leaning weakly against Chow, also caught sight of Raylan standing not too far
away.
She smiled and nodded at Raylan before looking up at Chow. "I'll wait for you. Don't take too long, I get
scared when I'm all by myself."
Chow nodded at her in agreement. Then, Celine was whisked away by the group of doctors and
nurses.
Raylan had been observing everything from his position. He couldn't help shaking his head in
amusement when he saw his mentor and chief physician bowing and sucking up to Chow like that.
He walked up to Chow. "I'm extremely disappointed in this corrupt society."
Chow was still harbouring a grudge against Raylan for the many times he'd challenged him and
maintained a stoic expression. "Aren't you one of the reasons for the corruption?"
Raylan shrugged. It was obvious that he wasn't going to continue with the topic.
He raised his chin and pointed in the direction where Celine had just left. "Have you been with your
fiancée these past several days?"
Chow's brows furrowed. "Where else would I be?"
Celine had seen with her own eyes how passionately Chow kissed Vivian the other day, but now, she
could snuggle up comfortably in Chow's arms.
Raylan just couldn't think that Celine was as innocent as she made herself out to be.
Nonetheless, he had been born with a silver spoon in his mouth along with Chow. He was already used
to seeing cunning women like her around them.
Still, Raylan couldn't understand why Chow would want to marry her and make her his wife.
If his eyes hadn't been fooling him just now, Chow had indeed been rather gentle and caring with
Celine just now.
The gentleness might not have come from his heart, but it was still something.
He really couldn't fathom it. He could see right through Celine from the start.
Why was Chow still so willing to let this woman attach herself to him like that?
Rather than calling Vivian a b*tch, it was Celine who was the snake that they should all be aware of.
It was just that Raylan still didn't know much about them, so naturally, he didn't have the right to say
anything.
He frowned to himself and spoke in a low voice. "I just wanted to tell you that Vivian—"
Because of his behaviour towards Vivian, Chow had had his guard up against Raylan for a while.
Before he could finish his sentence, Chow's eyebrows knitted tightly together as he exuded a chilling
aura. "You're really concerned about her, aren't you?"
Raylan had been expecting him to react like that.
He sighed helplessly and didn't argue with Chow. "When I went over to your house today—"
When he heard Raylan continuing, Chow's icy attitude immediately exploded into a hailstorm. "Raylan
Gordan, I'm never home during the day. I thought you knew that."
Anyone else would have been scared to death by Chow's dangerous look, but for Raylan, who had
grown up with Chow since young, he was already immune to his outbursts of anger.
...
Still, it infuriated him how Chow seemed to get mad at him for no apparent reason. The smile on
Raylan's face immediately disappeared. "All I did was just mention Vivian's name. Chow Howard, do
you really think that you don't care about her at all?"
Raylan rarely ever called Chow by his full name.
Although the expression on his face was still calm, the atmosphere just got even tenser than before.
It was rare for them to be challenging each other like this.
They probably never thought that their lifelong friendship would be on the rocks because of one girl.
Chow clenched his fists tightly. His nostrils flared in anger.
"It's true that I don't care about her. But that has nothing to do with you."
Raylan looked at him quietly. The darkness in his eyes seemed to be getting deeper and deeper,
making it hard for others to see through his thoughts. "What if I told you I cared about her?"
Before he could even finish speaking, Chow grabbed Raylan by the collar. "Raylan, I really hope that
our friendship doesn't get affected by a stupid woman."
Raylan looked at him coldly and didn't even resist. "Chow Howard, why don't you ask yourself instead if
you really hate Vivian as much as you say you do? If you do, then is our friendship not enough for you
to give me a woman that you don't even care about?"
Chow's entire body tensed up at once, but it wasn't because he was feeling guilty.
His grip on Raylan's collar tightened as he spoke in a dangerously low voice. "How dare you? I've told
you before that she is mine! You'd better nip all your feelings for her in the bud or else I won't be held
accountable for whatever I'll do to you!"
Raylan watched as the storm in Chow's eyes grew darker and heavier.
Even if Raylan had expected Chow to get angry at him like this, the intense fury in Chow's eyes still
sent a shiver down his spine.
