Chapter 16
Angel
Leffman
I'm going back and forth between the two companies. I've been taking care of Autos-Let for the last five months since I left Sofia with the responsibilities of Andrew and Leffman, and now the partners are asking for her. It's not that they doubt me, but they prefer her. I wouldn't admit it out
loud, but I know my wife has been an intelligent woman since day one.
"What's with the smile?" Elisa pointed out. "What are you thinking about?"
I touched my own lips and frowned. "What smile? I was just thinking about the company. That's all."
"Mm, okay. I am glad you took me out to eat something, especially after our unfortunate meeting with Sofia in the clubhouse."
Sofia at the clubhouse? She should be at home resting. That woman, I swear.
"What was she doing there, and what did she do to you?" She looked at me first, as if thinking of what to say. "Elisa, tell me. Talk." I urged her, not liking the suspense.
"I just don't want you angry. And if it was only me, I wouldn't care, but I was with your mom and sister."
The three of them together aren't a good combination. Mom has always hated her for making her father force me to marry her, and Angelica always prefers Elisa because she always thought Sofia was snobbish.
"Elisa, what happened?" I asked in irritation, and she looked out the window. "If you're not going to say it, why did you even mention it?"
She bit her lip and hesitated. "Don't be angry, Angel. I just don't think it's a good idea to tell you if you'll get angry."Exclusive © material by Nô(/v)elDrama.Org.
"I won't be angry, but why did you even mention it then?" She suddenly started to cry, and I was taken aback. "Why are you crying?"
"You're angry at me because of her."
I took a deep breath to calm myself. "God, Elisa. I'm not angry. I just don't like people stopping in the middle of a sentence. If you told me you fought with Sofia and won't tell me why, it'll bother me. So why mention it? I don't like gossip." ""Am I a blabbermouth now?"
God, give me patience because I'm losing it.
"Elisa, I don't want to argue with you. Will you tell me what happened or not?" I asked calmly, and she shook her head. "Well then, don't mention it again. End of."
Talking and stopping halfway irritates me, and if it's related to Sofia or my family, it's even more so.
"You are defending her now, and you are angry at me because of her. Did she tell you anything to make you feel angry at me?" Elisa accused me.
"I am not defending Sofia; I'm just saying the truth. She's still my wife and our divorce is still unknown to most people. You can't go around telling people you're my girlfriend, and I told you I'm not angry. Lastly, what can Sofia say to make me feel angry at you?"
"Nothing, but she's mean and conniving. She told me she's the reason why we didn't meet last night because you chose her over me, and that I can never be your wife because I can't match her." I am just observing her as she talks. "I was so sad when I heard you left the restaurant with her."
"Elisa, I already explained to you about the restaurant. And how did Sofia know we had a plan to meet?"
There's no way she'd know because she's in the hospital, and we went straight home. I looked at Elisa again, and she looked nervous.
"Elisa, I asked a question," I said in a firm voice.
"I don't know, Angel. How would I know? But she told me that. You can even ask your mom and sister if you don't believe me. She also treated me badly."
"Didn't you say that you wouldn't tell me?" She remained silent, and I mustered all my patience. "What did she tell them?"
"Don't worry about it. I don't want to drag you into it."
I shut my eyes tight and massaged my temple. "Elisa, don't start."
"After Sofia told me that you stood me up for her, she told your mother and sister that they need to have dignity and not go to the club. According to her, they are there because of her, and they should remember their place." "She said that?" I asked as rage ate me from the inside. That woman really likes making me angry.
"Yes, and many more that I can't mention because of shame. They were so upset. She even told me that she's Mrs. Leffman and I am just your lover. And that she succeeded in breaking us up once so she can do it again."
My grip on the wheel tightened, and she continued.
"She embarrassed Martha to the point where she was escorted out. She made it clear that none of us belongs there.
"What did my mom and Angelica say?" I asked only because I know them, and they won't just let it go.
"Nothing. They tried to defend themselves, but Martha managed to remain composed."
"Is there anything more?" I asked, and she shook her head.
"Your mom asked me not to tell you anything, but I just can't hide things from you."
"I appreciate that you did. You know I don't like people hiding things from me. Now we better go get that ice cream so I can send you home."
She looked at me with a frown. "You'll send me home?" she repeated and pouted. "I thought we'd finally get to be alone."
I know she doesn't deserve it, but I'm not in the mood for romance or that.
"It's not a good idea. People might see us and get the wrong idea." I reasoned to find my way out.
"Get the wrong idea? We are just hanging out."
"Not yet, Elisa. I mean, I know I promise I'll make it up to you, but as long as I'm still married, that isn't a good idea. You heard what Pops told you last time, and I don't want other people to think or say horrible things about you. You don't deserve that," I explained as calmly as I could. She sneered and crossed her arms like a child. "You don't love me anymore."
"I love you, but you need to understand that we are not in college anymore where you can date anyone and date another the next day. There are far too many things at risk, Elisa. It'll take some time."
She sulked but sighed and let out a half-smile. After a few minutes, we reached the ice cream shop, and she ordered her favorite while I ordered a cake and coffee. We began to talk about her travels, what she did there, and how she coped with the loss of our child.
I saw sadness on her face, and I didn't like seeing that. "Don't be sad." I don't want her to remember that because I know it's my fault. "You can have a child again, and it won't make up for the first one, but it can help you forget the sadness of losing them." "We'll have," she corrected. "You will be the only father of my children."
I forced out a smile because, for some reason, the idea made my skin crawl. I tried picturing it, but instead, it was replaced by Sofia's image in my mind. Why is that?
My phone rang, and I saw Harry's name on the screen.
"Tell me you have good news," I said the moment I answered it.
"I have bad and good news."
"Go straight to the point and be clear."
"We have an appointment in Autos-Let for Monday."
'Yes! I almost punched the air in excitement and happiness.
"About time. What time is the appointment?"
"That's the bad one. They told me that they would inform me tomorrow because the owner is in a meeting." Whatever positive feelings I felt disappeared instantly. "I know you're pissed, but at least we have an appointment. That is what's important." "They'll see when we meet. Okay, what are the other news stories?"
"Alexis is still in the hospital." That a*****e; I should have broken his face more. "The doctor told me that he's healing, but he woke up furious and acting like a monster."
"Harry, get to the point. I don't think that's what you want to tell me."
"No, Justin told me that he got a visitor."
Justin is one of my trusted security personnel, and he's the one I planted around the a*****e.
"And?"
"It's Sofia."
"What is she doing there?!"
"They have no idea, and he just saw her entering his room and stayed there for a few minutes." Okay, calm the f**k down, Angel.
"Are you alright?" Elisa whispered to me, and I forced a smile with a nod to not make her worry.
I turned my attention back to Harry. "Where is she now?"
"I don't know, man. You are the husband, not me," Harry replied sarcastically.
"Harry, do you want to die?" I asked with an angry frown.
"No, Angel, but I'm not a fortune teller. If you're interested in knowing, call her or one of her staff."
Stupid. I am surrounded by idiots! When will they do their jobs, right?!
"Find out why she's there," I ordered and ended the call in frustration.
There is something wrong with that woman visiting the man who almost abused and molested her.
"Angel, are you sure you're alright? Your mood changed."
"No, it's fine. Just some problems with the company, so you don't have to worry, and we have to leave now."
I paid the bill to drop Elisa off at home. She was quiet the whole way, or if she said anything, I didn't hear it because my attention was on Sofia. I told her not to leave the house, and she did. I told her to rest, and she went somewhere. I told her to stay away from that idiot, and she still met with him. Did she really want to kill me with so much anger?!
I gripped the wheel until my hands turned white and only loosened my hold when we reached her house.
"Will you call me once you're free?" She asked me, and I went back to reality.
"Of course. When everything's settled," I assured her, and she just stared at me with a tight-lipped smile.
"Thanks for the ice cream. Just like before."
"I'm glad you liked it. Go on inside and rest."
I left Elisa's house and drove to where Sofia was. She has a lot to explain before I wring her neck for being so stupid and stubborn.
"F**k! Evil woman! How can I believe you when you did all this?!"
Why did you meet with that idiot? Why did you insult my family? How did you know about our date last night, and where were you all day? That woman will drive me to insanity sooner or later.
