Chapter 54
Chapter 54
Zoe pursed her lips. "I want to talk about Mia's situation."
Mason's voice became even colder. "Is that so? Let's discuss it in my office."
After saying that, he hung up the phone without leaving any room for further discussion.
On the chilly streets of late autumn, Zoe felt a shiver run through her entire body.
This was the true Mason. In the past, his occasional tenderness was just a means to coax her back home. Once he found it ineffective, he revealed his true self.
Indifferent and heartless.
Putting down her phone, Zoe didn't hesitate and took a bus.
After a couple of transfers, she arrived at the Lockwood Corporation building. The employees of Lockwood Corporation recognized her as Mrs. Lockwood, but they also knew how unworthy she was of the title.
Ava came down to meet her.
Climbing to the top floor, Ava opened the door to the CEO's office with an attitude that lacked warmth.
"Mr. Mason is out at the moment, Mrs. Zoe. Please wait. I'll make you a cup of coffee." Original from NôvelDrama.Org.
Zoe stood alone in the office. She noticed the violin, which she cherished and placed behind Mason's office chair.
She became lost in thought.
Unbeknownst to her, Ava entered. Following Zoe's gaze, Ava smiled faintly.
"Mrs. Zoe, do you know why Lilith hates you so much? You might not be aware, but four years ago, Mr. Mason actually considered marrying her. Since Mr. Mason didn't have a specific preference, Lilith, who dropped from the sky, caught his attention."
She placed the coffee on the table. Straightening up, she continued, "But Mrs. Lisa, Mr. Mason's mother, didn't like Lilith. She thought Lilith's background was beneath their status. Even if you hadn't appeared, Lilith would never have entered the Lockwood family's gates."
She was composed, not regarding Zoe with any importance.
Suddenly, Zoe asked, "What about you, Ava? With your background, would Mr. Mason's mother approve?"
Ava was momentarily stunned. She hadn't expected Zoe to see through her thoughts. Zoe lowered her head, smiling bitterly.
It wasn't hard to see through Ava.
In the past, Zoe deeply loved Mason and naturally understood the people around him. Ava's admiring glances at him were sometimes barely concealed.
…
Mason left Zoe hanging for an entire day.
At 4 PM in the evening, he finally returned to the company. Opening the door, he found Zoe standing by the floor-to-ceiling window, watching the sunset.
Hearing the door, she slowly turned her head.
Mason stared at her for a while, then motioned for Ava behind him. "You can leave. I won't be receiving anyone today, no matter who it is."
Ava left, closing the door.
Mason stood by the doorway, exchanging glances with Zoe before walking to the desk and taking a seat behind it.
Leaning back in his chair, he slipped his slender fingers into his tie knot, loosening it with a sigh of relief. Only then did he look at Zoe.
"What do you want to discuss? Are you here to beg?"
Zoe stood with her back to the window.
Outside the floor-to-ceiling window, the evening clouds tinted the horizon a fiery red, making the vast sky seem insignificant.
Zoe humbled herself. "Yes, I'm here to beg you, Mason. Please spare Mia."
She knew what he wanted.
She was only willing to offer one thing, so she began unbuttoning her blouse.
The room remained unlit.
Her skin glistened in the subdued light, inviting one's touch. After a moment, her shirt and skirt fell to the ground, and her body trembled slightly.
Anger flashed in Mason's dark eyes.
Coincidentally, his eyes were particularly alluring when he was angry, leaving people guessing about his thoughts. Playing with the gold pen on the table, he sneered, "Why not take it all off?"
He stood up and walked toward her.
He stopped in front of her alluring figure, lightly touching her shoulder with a hint of playful intent. It wasn't how one would treat a wife, but more like dealing with one of those women in the business world who engaged in staged performances.
His long, slender fingers lightly caressed her with a playful demeanor.
Accompanied by a sneer, "Didn't expect the virtuous Mrs. Lockwood to have such a promiscuous side. What, are you craving for it?"
