Chapter 463 Disguise
After work, Benjamin casually brought the test report back home. He and Harper almost arrived at the apartment one after the other.
Annie was also there, but upon seeing him return, she quickly found an excuse to leave. She was afraid Benjamin might ask her if she wanted a man, just like Harper did. So, it was better for her to leave first. Now, only Harper and Benjamin remained in the apartment. Benjamin handed the report to Harper and said, "This is the result of the comparison of the reinforcement steel you asked Curtis to inspect. The testing center mentioned that the manufacturing plant for this type of steel is underground, making it difficult to trace." As Benjamin spoke, his words echoed in Harper's ears. However, she only heard the first sentence. The rest faded into the background as she noticed something familiar in the materials listed in the report. Despite this realization, she didn't show any unusual reactions, appearing somewhat absent-minded. She didn't even hear Benjamin call her several times.
Frowning, Benjamin reached out and took the report from her hands. He asked, "What are you thinking?"
Harper snapped out of her thoughts and replied casually, "Nothing, I'm just comparing these materials."
Not sensing anything amiss, Benjamin didn't dwell on it. He attributed her distraction to the stress of the situation. After all, the competition was only a few weeks away, and she must be feeling anxious. Deep in thought, Benjamin picked up his phone and handed it to Harper. "Take a look at this."
Harper was confused and glanced at him before shifting her gaze to the phone. Benjamin showed her the video that the deceased's cousin had handed over. However, Harper was completely stunned.
In the video, the man was dressed in all black, wearing a cap with the letter "M" on it. Although the video quality wasn't high-definition, the man's figure made Harper's face pale. She didn't know how to react. Seeing her tensed expression, Benjamin asked calmly, "Are you familiar with this hat?"
Harper looked at him, her expression tense and stiff. She didn't respond and just stared blankly at Benjamin.Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
He continued, "If there are no surprises, this man in the video could be the same person who took Wulf's wife away. Perhaps he orchestrated both incidents because he has some knowledge of our work and daily lives. Otherwise, he's been observing us for a long time. What do you think?" Harper's emotions remained heavy, but her facial expression remained calm, albeit forced. She looked at Benjamin, suppressing the panic in her heart as she asked, "Benjamin, do you suspect anyone?"
Benjamin shook his head, "Not at the moment."
Feeling conflicted, Harper turned her head back to the man in the video. She asked, "Is there any news about his wife?"
"No, it's like she vanished into thin air."
"A person can't just disappear like that," she murmured softly.
"Yeah, that's what I think too," Benjamin said, leaning back on the sofa. His deep eyes remained fixed on her profile. He sensed her distraction. What was bothering her?
Benjamin squinted, his voice soft, "Don't worry, there's no need for any concerns. You focus on the competition. Even if this matter isn't resolved before it starts, I won't let you get into trouble. So, don't overthink it, okay?" Harper nodded slightly, but he had no idea what her worries were.
However, Harper caught onto one piece of information from Benjamin's words. Although he said he currently had no suspects, based on her understanding of him, he couldn't have found out nothing after all these days. He was always someone who aimed for thorough preparation. He never entered a battle unprepared.
