Chapter 459 Dealing With It
Harper wasn't willing to wait for Benjamin, so she hung up the call directly.
Annie naturally noticed her embarrassment and clicked her tongue. "This is bound to happen to you."
Harper remained silent, preferring to keep quiet as if nothing had happened.
Benjamin didn't call back immediately afterward, so Harper was sure he was genuinely upset. But it was better that he didn't call back; it saved her from the awkwardness of not knowing what to say. Annie stayed with her for a while, and Harper started feeling a bit tired, so she lay down on the couch and fell asleep.
Annie left for the company.
Harper slept until evening, and during this time, there were no calls or messages from Benjamin. After hesitating for a moment, she dialed again.
This time, she spoke only after hearing the other person's voice.
Benjamin asked, "Are you at home?"
"Yes, when are you coming back? I called you, why didn't you return my call?" she asked softly.
He replied lightly, "I thought you were busy, so I didn't call back."
Harper was a bit a bit puzzled.
What did he mean by her being busy?
She asked,
"Are
"Do you think I
you angry?"
I should be angry?" he asked in a low voice.
Clearly, he was upset.
Harper's tone was gentle as she admitted, "I didn't mean not to tell you. It's just that after the examination at the hospital, Dr. Gene said the situation wasn't too serious, so I let Annie bring me back home. With so much going on at the Martin Group recently, I..."
"Hmm, you're considerate of me. I should thank you, right?"
It sounded like he was teasing her.
Harper furrowed her brows slightly, "So, you're angry and not coming back?"
"Do you really want me to not come back?"
He maintained his uncooperative attitude, making Harper feel somewhat helpless.
She said, "My back still hurts. If you keep being sarcastic with me, I'll be angry. If you don't want to come back, forget it. Anyway, I'll tell Paul about it."
She was threatening him; Paul had said that if he treated her poorly, there was a possibility of him being replaced.
Benjamin was speechless this time. Clearly, he was the one who was angry, but how did it become his fault?
Well... well...
One really shouldn't provoke the villains and women.
Benjamin shook his head helplessly. His tone was much gentler than before as he asked, "Threatening me now?" Harper remained silent.
He chuckled softly, "I'm already downstairs. I've bought the fruits and snacks you wanted. After the meeting this afternoon, I had coffee with Larry and only just got back now."
That
was an explanation.
One he took the initiative to tell her. Harper's response was flat, "Oh."
Just
"Why did you have coffee with Larry?"
She was curious about this.
Benjamin didn't hide anything and said directly, "He wants to annul the engagement with the girl from the Norman family. Recently, Julia has been trying her best to push for a quick wedding, and the pressure from the Norman family is intense because the cooperation involves too much, and I the Ellison family is a bit passive right now, so it's deadlocked and in a dilemma."
Harper wasn't surprised because Larry didn't love Julia, and his relationship with Julia was only complicated due to the ties between their families and companies.
However, relationships like this were the strongest, yet most fragile at the same time.
She asked, "Did he ask you to help him?"
"That's his business. I'm not involved. If you want me to help him, I can consider it, hmm?"This content belongs to Nô/velDra/ma.Org .
"Why would I want you to help him? He hasn't done anything for me; I don't want to help him."
Moreover, even if there were benefits, she didn't want to speak up for Larry. Whether Benjamin would help was his business.
However, she didn't expect Benjamin to agree with her words, saying, "Alright, then I won't help him. Let him deal with it on his own."
Harper furrowed her brows slightly, "Aren't you and Larry childhood friends?"
"Is a friend more important than my wife?"
His voice was hoarse, and the low tone made Harper pause, her heart suddenly tightening as if something had touched it forcefully.
